Trump’s Fight Against Antisemitism Has Become Fraught for Many Jews

Jewicidal Rabbi

American Jews have watched with both alarm and enthusiasm as strong-arm tactics, including arrests of activists, have been deployed in their name.

Rabbi Sharon Brous was growing increasingly alarmed at the Trump administration’s strong-arm tactics, like its attacks on higher-education funding and bullying of law firms, all in the name of protecting Jews.

So early last month, she delivered an impassioned sermon titled “I Am Not Your Pawn” to her Los Angeles congregation. Hours later, the next shoe dropped. Immigration agents began detaining activists and foreign students who had been involved in pro-Palestinian protests.

“This is not going to protect Jews,” Rabbi Brous said in an interview. “We’re being used.”

You just can’t please some people.

After Trump’s broad tariffs, Europe reels from the loss of an old ally

ROME — In announcing plans to rebuild post-World War II Europe, then-U.S. Secretary of State George C. Marshall linked security with economics. Without the United States doing whatever it could to promote “normal economic health in the world,” he said, “there can be no political stability and no assured peace.”

Nearly 80 years later, America’s closest allies in Europe see President Donald Trump’s tariffs as another blow to a fast-fracturing Western alliance that had stood as the most successful peace project of modern times — one whose pillars included shared democratic values, a strategic goal to contain Moscow as well as flourishing flows of trade and investment.

I don’t think anyone expected the Marshall Plan to be a permanent US financial obligation.

What’s the Real Target of the Assault on Tesla?

The war on Elon Musk and Tesla is driven by far more than politics. One thing is for sure: Tesla owners never saw this one coming. After all, Tesla fans are generally predisposed to embrace climate change and much of the Green New Deal — positions with large support among people on the Left side of the political spectrum. For many, owning a Tesla is a statement of virtue signaling that you are doing your part to save the world and save the environment. Owners of Teslas are more likely to vote Democrat than Republican. So why would Tesla dealerships and Tesla car owners be targeted for destruction? And who are these radical property destroyers?

Mark Carney’s values could remake Canada—so what are they?

Is there a “there” there when it comes to Canada’s newest PM? I just read his 600-page book and still have no idea

The Right Honourable Mark Carney is now Canada’s prime minister; and since he has neither held elected office nor spent much of the past years in Canada, we must turn elsewhere to divine his views about the country of which he is now the leader, as well as his outlook on the world more broadly.

Lies, The Spirit of Munich, and JD Vance

In Washington this week, Vice President JD Vance introduced the documentary series based on my 2020 bestseller Live Not By Lies, which is about the lessons anti-communist dissidents of the Soviet bloc have for us today. In the book (which has been translated into most European languages), I talk about the “soft totalitarianism” of wokeness and left-wing illiberalism, and feature interviews with former dissidents who warn that we are facing a new form of oppression in the West—one with striking similarities to what they endured under the Soviets.

Some of these people—Czechs, Slovaks, Romanians, and others—appear in the four-part documentary, telling their stories and warning contemporary people to wake up while there is still time.

HEINRICHS: Are Canadians all in for globalism?

No one calls out globalist politicians better than Marjorie Taylor-Greene. In 2024 the US congresswoman won her second landslide election, and she now chairs the influential DOGE subcommittee.

On Taylor-Green’s website she puts it straight: “Our government is supposed to work for the American people, not foreign nations.” She says one of her country’s biggest problem is that “globalist politicians in Washington, D.C. continue to put the American people last by putting their interests and the interests of other countries first.”

Trapped with a Tesla: my dream car has become a living nightmare

After our children left home, my wife and I decided to treat ourselves and buy a new car for a driving holiday in Europe. We’d been driving a family estate car for years, loading it up with kids and making trips to and from universities, but we wanted something for ourselves.

As a surprise, she booked a test drive for the Tesla Model S for my birthday. It was unlike any car I’d been in before. I thought “Wow, this is amazing.” It felt like the future: a computer on wheels that was constantly updating with new features. I can’t say I feel that way now – and many people seem to share that view. Tesla sales figures declined by 13% in the first few months of this year. Others feel even more uneasy: more than 200 demonstrations happened last weekend outside company facilities around the world to protest against Elon Musk and the wrecking ball he has taken to the federal government.

Poilievre disagrees with ex-Reform boss that voting Liberal will lead to ‘Western secession’

KINGSTON, Ont. — Pierre Poilievre said Thursday he disagrees with calls from former Reform Party leader Preston Manning that a vote for Liberal Leader Mark Carney amounts to a “vote for Western secession.”

Manning, whom Poilievre, the federal Conservative leader, has known since his teenage years in Calgary when he become involved with the erstwhile Reform Party, penned an opinion piece in The Globe and Mail, arguing Carney poses a threat to national unity, particularly in Western Canada, which has long been aggrieved with the policies of the Liberal government around natural resources.

Conservatives stick by candidate accused of denying made up history of residential schools

OTTAWA – A leading residential school expert is questioning the Conservative party’s decision to stick with a candidate accused of denying the history of residential schools.

In videos posted on social media, Aaron Gunn — the Conservative candidate in North Island-Powell River in British Columbia — has said Canada’s program of residential schools did not constitute an act of genocide and that the schools are “much-maligned.”

Sounds like a keeper.

The electric car honeymoon is over

Sooner or later, it is going to dawn on the owners of electric cars that they have been enjoying one of the longest introductory free offers in history. The moment of realisation may even come tomorrow. That is when, for the first time, electric cars (EVs) are going to become liable to pay road tax. It won’t necessarily be too onerous. Drive an EV out of a showroom tomorrow and you will pay just £10 in car tax for the first year, rising to £195 for your second year of ownership and beyond. Owners of vehicles registered between 1 April 2017 and today will pay £195 a year. Those registered between 2001 and 2017 will be liable for £20 a year road tax.

EV’s are heavy vehicles that still get a free pass in Canada for the added road wear they cause.
