Anthony Furey: Students Are Now Assaulting Educators in Today’s No-Consequences Culture

A Hamilton newspaper recently published three disturbing photographs of women who had been assaulted. One was a picture of bruises across a woman’s thigh. Another was a close-up of the face of a woman who had been heavily bruised around an eye socket. The third was another close-up of an eye, this one a gash just beside a woman’s eye socket.

They looked like police evidence used for a domestic assault case. They weren’t. They were pictures of Hamilton educators highlighting the very real harms they had suffered at the hands of their students.

Police Investigate Migrant ‘Promo Video’ Shot Aboard German NGO Ship

Using language reminiscent of a travel agency advertising campaign, a Libyan migrant smuggler and some of his satisfied customers shot a promotional video aboard a migrant rescue ship belonging to a German NGO in the Mediterranean. The Italian authorities are now investigating what they call “promo videos” intended to publicize human trafficking services.

Poilievre proposes mandatory prison terms for extortion-related crimes

SURREY, B.C. — Pierre Poilievre says a Conservative government will establish mandatory minimum prison sentences for people convicted of extortion.

The opposition leader says extortion-related crime has skyrocketed with police in multiple provinces dealing with organized crime threats against businesses.

Poilievre’s remarks were delivered in a commercial centre in Surrey, B.C., where police say shots were fired at a business in November.

He should arrest Trudeau first thing.

Why the e-bike boom is raising fire fears

When Ollie, a delivery rider in York, England, got his first e-bike in 2022, it was a bit of a splurge. He bought it at a discounted rate negotiated by his delivery company.

Even with the discount, it set him back £1,000.

“The biggest issue is that e-bikes are expensive, and ones with safe batteries are extremely expensive, so many people opt for cheaper, less reliable and often dangerous batteries,” Ollie says.

Jagmeet Singh is super serious this time

Pity Jagmeet Singh’s communications staff, constantly tasked with finding new language for the same empty threat the NDP Leader has been making for years. Mr. Singh has to sound serious but not be serious; he needs to project resoluteness even though he’s the political equivalent of an accordion, bending in every direction and emitting sounds that appeal only to a very niche subset of people.

Earlier this week, Mr. Singh warned that he will rip up his party’s supply-and-confidence agreement with the Liberals if the government doesn’t meet its deadline to introduce a pharmacare plan.

Another ‘beer tax’ increase is coming on April 1, amid calls to cancel it

It is no April Fools’ joke. On April 1, a federal tax increase on alcohol sometimes known as the “beer tax” is scheduled to come into effect, meaning Canadians could soon pay more for their alcoholic beverage of choice.

A Conservative MP is calling on the Canadian government to stop the raise.

The alcohol excise tax is set to go up by 4.7 per cent, which Kelowna-Lake Country MP Tracy Gray says will cost Canadians about $100 million extra in 2024-25.

Why Military Recruitment Is Miserable

The U.S. military’s recruitment shortcomings have received significant coverage of late, and some of it is even informed. But much of that coverage has left unclear exactly why the military is facing this crisis at this time. The recurring suggestion that white recruits are opting out of service merely because of wokeness concerns struck me as insufficient, to put it mildly — so I reached out to two retiring Navy recruiters, Frank and Isaac, whose opinions I trust and with whom I have worked in the past.

What is the dark web and what can you find on there?

During the trial of Brianna Ghey’s killers, the court heard an illuminating text exchange between the teenage murderers Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe.

Jenkinson had been fuelling her fantasies by accessing murder and torture videos on the dark web. “I love watching torture vids. Real ones on the dark web,” she told her friend. But she wanted more and asked Ratcliffe how to get hold of live videos of people being tortured, for which you had to pay. “Why would I know?,” Ratcliffe said.

Éric Zemmour: ‘I am not intending to conquer Europe’

Two years ago, Éric Zemmour was the most talked-about man in France and a serious contender to be the ninth president of the Fifth Republic. A controversial journalist turned incendiary politician, he vied with Marine Le Pen for second place behind Emmanuel Macron in the polls. Crucially, he seemed to have something she lacked – an ability still to appeal to the Catholic bourgeoisie while tapping into widespread anger at mass immigration.

But then Russia attacked Ukraine, the mood of Europe changed, and Zemmour’s political fortunes sank as quickly as they had risen. He finished a distant fourth in the first round of the presidential election, with 7 per cent of the vote. The experience did not put him off running for high office, however, and today he is back in campaign mode looking ahead to the European elections in June and beyond.

Heritage Foundation economist calls attention to a fresh concern with the left’s EV agenda

Diana Furchtgott-Roth, an economist with the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation who studies climate and energy issues, recently appeared on a Fox News broadcast alongside Stuart Varney to discuss the E.V. market, and its negative impact on car manufacturers; “going green, losing green” was the tagline that flashed across the screen before the segment. (Furchtgott-Roth also served in President Trump’s administration, and is a professor at George Washington University.)

Jonathan Haidt: abolish DEI to save academia

DEI – racist anti-white communist ideology

Abolishing DEI may be the only way out of the Leftist ideological capture of American campuses, Jonathan Haidt told an audience at the University of North Carolina (UNC), Chapel Hill, on Wednesday.

Those words mark a dramatic departure for Haidt, who has been known as a restrained, moderate voice on the subject of cancel culture, identity politics and what he calls the obsession with “safetyism” that has gripped Gen Z in the past decade. Haidt, a professor Ethical Leadership at New York University’s Stern School of Business, is the author of “The Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions and Bad Ideas Are Setting Up a Generation for Failure,” and founder of the Heterodox Academy, an academic organisation committed to the ideals of viewpoint diversity and academic freedom.

The hate we refuse to name

A new report on the intimidation of politicians ignores the foul behaviour of Islamists and trans activists.

UK politicians are facing increased levels of abuse, death threats and online harassment. So claims a new report from the Jo Cox Foundation, the charity named after the Labour MP who was murdered by a far-right extremist in 2016. The foundation has called for a ‘new tone for political life in the UK’.
