Update – Top UN court rejects SA request to halt war against Hamas
The International Court of Justice on Friday rejected a request by South Africa to order a halt to Israel’s defensive war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip while demanding that the Jewish state take “all necessary measures” to prevent acts that could possibly lead to genocide.
The top U.N. court also dismissed Pretoria’s demand that residents of the northern Gaza Strip be allowed to return to the area immediately.
U.K. suspends trade negotiations with Canada, as each accuse the other of not budging
OTTAWA – The United Kingdom is hitting the brakes on trade talks with Canada after Ottawa decided to not extend two temporary measures put in place after Brexit.

Islam is on the verge of completely taking over Europe, in all ways — at least according to one who should know, Hans-Georg Maaßen, Germany’s top domestic intelligence chief from 2012 to 2018. In a recent interview, he stressed several points that spell the imminent downfall of Europe to Islam.
His warnings are buttressed by disturbing demographic changes. According to conservative estimates from Pew Research, over the next 25 years — meaning most of the current generation’s lifetime — Europe’s Muslim population will triple to a staggering 76 million. In fact, the actual current and future numbers of Muslims appear to be higher, though there are no official tallies. Europe’s Muslim population is projected to exceed 58 million by 2030.” Clearly 58 million in five years’ time is more significant than 76 million in 25 years’ time.

‘Anti-European’ populist parties are on track to make big gains across the continent in this year’s European Union elections, polling has found.
A report into the findings across all 27 EU member states has said the bloc will likely see ‘a sharp right turn’ in June in what would be nightmare result for Brussels.
It suggests radical right-wing parties are on course to finish first in nine countries, including France, Poland and Austria, and second or third in another nine – including Germany, Spain, Sweden and Portugal.

Ukraine: Wiretapping scandal puts journalists at risk
Employees at Ukraine’s well-known investigative outlet Bihus.Info have been covertly wiretapped and filmed. A video leaked online, purportedly showing team members consuming illegal substances at a New Year’s party, has caused a scandal.
The video was released on January 16 on a little-known YouTube channel called Narodna Pravda (Ukrainian for “national truth”). It ostensibly also contained snippets of private conversations between Bihus.Info employees as they discussed buying drugs. The video has since been removed.
A group of journalists founded the investigative outlet in 2013 under the aegis of editor-in-chief Denys Bihus. One of its reports uncovered the financing schemes of Ukrainian power plants located in Russian-held territories and owned by the brother of Rostyslav Shurma, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

Pride Toronto is repaying just over $505,000 in grant funding after an accounting firm found the organization could not prove that it completed several projects despite receiving $1.85 million from the federal government.
In a statement sent to CBC News, Pride Toronto Executive Director Kojo Modeste said the organization is repaying $505,504 total to the federal department of Canadian heritage.
This comes after KPMG, which was hired by the organization in 2021 to review its compliance with agreements for three federal grants, found that documentation was lacking.
