Protestors chant ‘Yemen Yemen, make us proud, turn another ship around’ as 200,000 march through London

More than 200,000 Pro-Palestinian protesters have started marching through London for the first major demonstration of 2024 — as the Metropolitan Police confirmed it had moved in to make six arrests.

Around 1,700 police officers from the Met and other UK forces have been mobilised amid fears the escalating tension in Yemen will bring more activists to the streets of the capital.

Iran-backed Houthi rebels, whose slogan includes ‘death to Israel’ and ‘curse the Jews’, have targeted commercial ships passing through the Red Sea in a show of solidarity with Palestine.

Trudeau’s tenure a passport to embarrassment

“We’re Number 31! We’re Number 31!”

Not sure what shape of foam finger one gets for a 31st-place ranking, but that’s what Canadians who want to celebrate international recognition of our passport are going to have to find.

According to the respected international recruitment and relocation consultancy Henley & Partners, Canada’s passport is only the 31st most respected passport in the world.

Rail thin, scared to speak, but free: my daughter’s life after Hamas hostage ordeal

When his nine-year-old daughter Emily first came back home after nearly two months in Hamas captivity, Thomas Hand didn’t let her out of his sight. At night, he would sit up watching her sleep. Whenever she frowned, he’d wake her, worried she was having a nightmare.

The rare times that Emily went out with her two grown-up siblings, he’d put an electronic tracker in her pocket, so that he could follow her on his phone. Each day, he marvelled that she was really there, thin and exhausted, with matted hair and lice, rescued from an ordeal that defies comprehension.

Aspiring Rapper handed life sentence for two B.C. murders in case featuring musical confession

Aspiring Rapper

Under the stage name T-Sav, Tyrel Hieu George Mahoney Nguyen drew on his experiences as a gangster to make music.

He may never win a Grammy, but the Surrey man’s lyrics did help earn him two life sentences this week from a B.C. Supreme Court judge who found one of Nguyen’s songs was essentially a thinly-veiled confession to the 2017 murder of gangster Randeep (Randy) Kang.

Just getting his life together too!

White Men Don’t Want To Join An Army That Tells Them They Aren’t Wanted

The U.S. Army is experiencing a sharp decline in the number of white recruits it’s bringing into the service, a new report found.

According to data analyzed by Military.com, “A total of 44,042 new Army recruits were categorized by the service as white in 2018, but that number has fallen consistently each year to a low of 25,070 in 2023, with a 6% dip from 2022 to 2023 being the most significant drop.” The report further noted how “[n]o other demographic group” has experienced such a downward trend in recent years, and that the “rate at which white recruitment has fallen far outpaces nationwide demographic shifts.”

American citizen Gonzalo Lira dies from neglect in Ukrainian prison

Chilean-American war commentator Gonzalo Lira died shortly before noon on January, 11, 2024 at a hospital in Kharkiv, where he had been imprisoned for eight months since he was accused of justifying Russian war efforts in Ukraine.

Lira came to prominence in 2022 when he emerged as a critical voice in an increasingly dictatorial Ukraine. His arrest in May 2023 on charges of “production and dissemination of materials justifying Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine” helped to galvanize domestic opposition to US funding for the war and led to calls for his release by tech baron Elon Musk and American political commentator Tucker Carlson.

Will China invade Taiwan — and what would conflict look like?

A Chinese invasion of Taiwan would be one of the most dangerous and consequential events of the 21st century, an event that would make the Russian attack on Ukraine look like a sideshow by comparison. It could quickly have ramifications far beyond the island, drawing in Japan, South Korea, and the United States and other countries of Nato.

The Atlantic’s Phantom Nazi Problem

There are major factual issues with jonathan m. katz’s ‘atlantic’ article, “substack has a nazi problem”

A fairly contrived effort to endlessly link the word Substack to the word Nazi has had some moderate success, unfortunately. Or at least enough success to have sparked an open letter republished on many individual Substacks calling on Substack to get rid of Nazis, a counter–open letter calling on it to maintain its liberal content-moderation standards, a statement from Substack co-founders Hamish McKenzie, Chris Best, and Jairaj Sethi explicitly stating that they do not plan to ban Nazis from the platform, a bunch of Substackers responding by leaving or threatening to leave if Substack doesn’t moderate the content it hosts more aggressively, and a spate of news coverage of all of the above.

Small Town, USA learns the hard way that welcoming lawbreakers has negative consequences

At this point, Joe Biden and the Bidenites don’t just have a little blood on their hands, they’re bathing in it.

A few days back, AT published an essay by contributor C.S. Boddie that highlighted a recent tragedy in Colorado: an illegal alien, who had been deported four times before, killed a mother and her 16-year-old son, as he drove (allegedly) completely inebriated near a high school. The illegal had four “alcohol-related driving” convictions under his belt, and just days before, he’d received probation, community service, and work release from a Colorado judge; Boddie’s piece also included a number of other “chilling” examples underscoring the deadly consequences of admitting millions of scofflaws.
