The Conservatives opt for silence on social-policy

If you tried to imagine the narrative arc of Canadian social policy, you might guess that the dental-care program announced this week marks the peak of the current cycle.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government has spent big on social policy, including a subsidized national child-care program. Now, the party’s parliamentary deal with the NDP is birthing a remarkably broad dental-insurance program that is expected to cover nine million people.

Woke Cowardice: Wrong University Presidents at the Wrong Time

The forced resignation of the president of the University of Pennsylvania is a good first step in dealing with a far more pervasive problem in higher education.

The three university presidents who disgraced themselves and their universities by their abysmal testimony before the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce represent a far larger concern.

In recent years, many universities have selected as their presidents woke, progressive cowards who pander to the most extreme and most vocal left-wing students and professors. They are the wrong people, at the wrong time, to be leading American educational institutions.

Canada faces declining EV interest, report shows, despite push to boost sales

As Canada continues its work towards net-zero carbon emissions, including through its mandate for at least 20 per cent of car sales to be electric vehicles (EVs) by 2026, a new report showing a declining interest in the products is raising questions whether that goal is doable.

On Monday, AutoTrader.ca released its 2023 top search data into some of the most popular vehicles searched on their marketplace this year and while it showed a rise in popularity of trucks, the number showing an intent to purchase an EV has declined from one year prior.

Hunter Biden ducks House interview under threat of contempt, begs for public hearing instead

First son Hunter Biden made a shameless plea for public sympathy outside the Capitol on Wednesday — skipping a transcribed interview with the House Oversight Committee under the threat of being held in contempt.

“For six years, I’ve been the target of the unrelenting Trump attack machine shouting, ‘Where’s Hunter?’ Well, here’s my answer, ‘I am here,’” said the younger Biden, 53.

The Cost of Canada’s Green Energy Subsidies

Ottawa has committed to spending $200 billion to fight climate change, but some economists say it may not be taxpayer money well spent.

The federal government announced earlier this year clean energy investment tax credits worth more than $60 billion. Combined with the billions in subsidies for the electric vehicle industry and many other clean energy initiatives, the final tally is approximately $200 billion, Environment Minister Steve Guilbeault said.

Daily Wire for the Win! Disney Changes Tune After DW Announces Their Own Snow White

… I can’t recall when a major corporation like Disney changed its shooting schedule or marketing for a movie in response to a small studio’s challenge.

Disney did precisely that. Right after The Daily Wire announced that it would be releasing a Snow White movie as counterprogramming to the troubled Disney production, Snow White and the Diverse Forest Creatures of Endor, or whatever it will be called.

As CBC layoffs loom, ‘inappropriate’ bonuses in centre stage. How much are they?

Amid plans by CBC to cut 10 per cent of its workforce, the House of Commons heritage committee on Tuesday said it would be “inappropriate for the CBC to grant bonuses to executive members.”

That comes after the committee last week called the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s president and CEO Catherine Tait — who could make more than $120,000 in bonuses on top of her six-figure salary, according to CBC documents — to appear as a witness in the new year.

Majority Of Gaza Residents Support Hamas Attack Of Oct 7 & Claim No War Crimes Committed

Wartime Palestinian poll shows surge in Hamas support, close to 90% want US-backed Abbas to resign

… The survey provided insights about Palestinian views of the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas and other Gaza militants on southern Israel, in which about 1,200 people were killed, most of them civilians. Israel’s subsequent war on Hamas has killed more than 18,400 Palestinians, about two-thirds of them women and children, in a sustained bombing campaign and ground offensive in Gaza, now in its third month.

Despite the devastation, 57% of respondents in Gaza and 82% in the West Bank believe Hamas was correct in launching the attack, the poll indicated. A large majority believed Hamas’ claims that it acted to defend a major Islamic shrine in Jerusalem against Jewish extremists and win the release of Palestinian prisoners. Only 10% said they believed Hamas has committed war crimes, with a large majority saying they did not see videos showing the militants committing atrocities.

Trudeau wants to bring thousands of these depraved monsters to Canada.

After escaping war, thousands of Ukrainians want to stay in Canada permanently … But will that serve as precedent to open the floodgates for the mass import of Hamas supporters?

Tens of thousands of Ukrainians who fled the war in their homeland for safety in Canada under a temporary visa program are pressing Ottawa to allow them to settle here permanently.

When Russia invaded Ukraine in February, 2022, the Canadian government swiftly enacted the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET), allowing an unlimited number of Ukrainians fleeing the war to work, study and stay in Canada for up to three years.

I have zero problem with this however it will almost certainly be used as a precedent by the sleazebag Trudeau government to import Hamas supporters by the tens of thousands and that has to be stopped.  The usual suspects are already whining that Hamas supporters are victims of a racist Canada that does not treat them like the normal Ukraine refugees.

Supreme Court will hear a case that could undo Capitol riot charge against hundreds, including Trump

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Wednesday said it will hear an appeal that could upend hundreds of charges stemming from the Capitol riot, including against former President Donald Trump.

The justices will review an appellate ruling that revived a charge against three defendants accused of obstruction of an official proceeding. The charge refers to the disruption of Congress’ certification of Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential election victory over Trump.

Michael Shellenberger: Revenge of the populists — elites around the world will be replaced

Over the last year, we and others have documented the leadership and participation of United States military, intelligence and law enforcement agencies in demanding greater censorship of legal speech online by social media platforms. Over the last two weeks, we have traced the creation of a mass, public-private censorship effort called Cyber Threat Intelligence League (CTIL) to two separate U.S. Department of Defense organizations .

Adding to this large and growing body of evidence is the fact that there appears to be a limited number of interpretive frameworks used by the U.S. government, NATO and their allies for characterizing their populist enemies. From the Russia hoax to the COVID lab leak to the recent riots in Ireland, the news media, governments and leading NGOs have framed populists as foreign, crazy, harmful and undemocratic .

Veganism is in crisis, and the fanatics can only blame themselves

Q “How do you tell if someone is a vegan?”

A: “You don’t have to, they’ll tell you.”

Maybe it’s jokes like that, highlighting society’s stereotypical view of vegans as arrogant virtue-signallers, that have led to a slump in demand for some plant-based alternatives to meat and dairy, as well as a slew of business failures among manufacturers of plant-based food – most recently Heather Mills’s company VBites, which has just announced it is going into administration.
