What Iran means for Putin

Multipolarity is a disaster for Russia

As the Middle East lurches toward wider war, Vladimir Putin finds himself confronted by the terrifying reality of the world he has always demanded. For a quarter of a century, the Russian president has been demanding a “multipolar world order”, one that would overturn the hypocritical liberal consensus. Now, that order might have arrived, but the system taking shape is not creating a stronger Russia. Instead, it reveals an increasingly isolated and weakened state — one that, if the history of Putin’s rule is anything to go by, might see the Kremlin turn toward even further domestic repression and foreign confrontation.

When it comes to the U.S., here is why Doug Ford should let others do the talking

“I’m going to be on the phone full steam, and later on, do a U.S. trip,” Premier Doug Ford told reporters at Queen’s Park on Monday. The Toronto Sun responded with its trademark headline treatment: “Doug, you’re not helping,” warning his CNN appearance risked inflaming an already bad situation.

There’s no doubt Premier Ford’s plain speaking makes for good television. But he must walk a fine line: advocate for Ontario’s interests, yes, but without handing U.S. politicians an excuse to dismiss Canada’s case as foreign meddling. On Monday, on Wolf Blitzer’s Situation Room, he crossed that line.

Western Governments Are Surrendering The Public Square To Islamists, Literally

In cities across the West, the pavement has become a stage for a specific, assertive religious claim.

On Feb. 20, Times Square was filled with men kneeling shoulder to shoulder on prayer rugs for Ramadan’s nightly Taraweeh prayers. New York City’s most famous intersection, a place meant for commerce and tourism, had become a place for religious ritual, as it has since 2022.

How the U.S.-Iran conflict is impacting gas prices in Canada

Gas prices inched up a few cents overnight in Canada as the North American oil market reacts to escalating tensions in the Middle East, where the U.S. and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran Saturday that threatens to destabilize the rest of the region.

If you’re filling up a gas tank this week, higher gas prices could last as long as the conflict continues to disrupt oil tankers from accessing the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest and most important naval shipping routes, according to experts.

The cruelty of the Hollywood race hypocrites

AT THIS year’s Bafta awards, a moment of pure neurological chaos unfolded. John Davidson, the Tourette syndrome campaigner and subject of the film I Swear, let out an involuntary shout of the N-word while the black actors Michael B Jordan and Delroy Lindo presented an award. Davidson has coprolalia, a severe form of the disorder that forces out taboo words without warning or consent. He did not choose it. He did not mean it. Yet the backlash was swift, vicious and revealing.

Others contest the government’s private lands claim.
