ANALYSIS: Is Toronto worse off after Chow’s mayoral stint

TORONTO — As Toronto voters prepare to head to the polls in October, they will do so against the backdrop of a city grappling with persistent affordability pressures, strained public services and aging infrastructure.

While Mayor Olivia Chow can point to improvements in some areas, including reductions in homicides and increased housing approvals, many residents continue to confront a city that feels increasingly expensive, congested and difficult to navigate.

In Toronto’s mayoral race, voters will have two distinct choices — plus Doug Ford

The election is still months away, but already the battle lines are drawn. On one side, we have Mayor Olivia Chow — a tough and tested lefty — on the other, Councillor Brad Bradford — an aggressive “pragmatist.” Though other contenders may yet join the race, it’s doubtful any will have a genuine shot at victory.

Chow, of course, has been mayor since winning the byelection called in 2023 after the sudden resignation of her predecessor, John Tory, following a sex scandal. A veteran NDPer, she did time as a downtown councillor and a federal parliamentarian before assuming Toronto’s top job.

Both suck up to Islamists and from what I am hearing of Bradford he’s no savior.

LILLEY: Olivia Chow is running for mayor again, but Toronto can’t afford more of same

Olivia Chow decided to be honest about her intentions when it comes to her re-election campaign. After weeks, nay months, of going around the city holding campaign-style events in her role as mayor, but while using her purple campaign colouring and branding, she has announced what we already knew.

Chairman Chow announces re-election bid for 2nd dismal term

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow announced she’ll be running for a second term in a news release Monday.

Her announcement comes weeks after the municipal election nomination window opened. While she was widely expected to run again for the city’s top job, neither Chow nor her team revealed their plans until Monday.

“This morning I registered to run for re-election. But that does not change what I do here as the mayor,” she said at a news conference Monday.

Hasn’t this city suffered enough?

BORG: Toronto wants to look world-class for FIFA 2026 — the reality is falling apart

BORG: Toronto wants to look world-class for FIFA 2026 — the reality is falling apart

TORONTO — Toronto politicians love to sell the city as a world-class destination ready to welcome the globe for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The ads are polished, the slogans are optimistic, and the promises are endless. But outside the carefully crafted marketing campaigns lies a city already struggling to handle its own daily pressures.

The reality is uncomfortable: Toronto is not in shape to host an event of this scale.

A dozen-plus Toronto police officers have been arrested this year. That’s not just ‘bad apples’

A dozen-plus Toronto police officers have been arrested this year. That’s not just ‘bad apples’

The media was first to tell the people of Toronto that three of its police officers had been arrested in Spain. Initially the reason for the arrests was unclear, but soon the details began trickling out: while vacationing in Barcelona last week, one of these men allegedly sexually assaulted a sex worker in a taxi while another physically assaulted her after she refused to participate in a threesome, according to Spanish media. The woman was allegedly punched in the face, which caused a cut that required stitches, and was sexually assaulted before she was rescued by plain-clothed officers in the area; the third suspect is accused of attacking an officer. One of the suspects fled the scene, but was found in Palma de Mallorca roughly 48 hours later.

City of Toronto, security contractor trade blame in $32M lawsuit defences

While they’re both on the receiving end of the same litigation, security contractor One Community Solutions and the City of Toronto are not putting up a united front.

Both are fighting a proposed class-action lawsuit, and while they’re both disputing the allegations, in their statements of defence each is suggesting that the other would be responsible should a court find any wrongdoing took place.

Sick of loud cars revving their engines at night? Toronto could look at noise cameras to crack down

Sick of loud cars revving their engines at night? Toronto could look at noise cameras to crack down

The city of Toronto could soon have a new tool in its battle against scofflaw drivers: noise cameras are up for discussion Thursday afternoon at city council’s monthly meeting.

Coun. Lily Cheng is introducing a motion at this week’s council meeting that calls on staff to look into bringing noise cameras to the streets of the city to catch drivers making excessive noise. She wants city staff to look into noise camera use in other jurisdictions to find out what technology works best.

Accompanying her motion is a letter of support with 264 signatures.

Where I live angry residents cornered a couple of motorcyclists who persistently revved their engines in our above ground parking lot – they love the Canyon echo effect.

They should have burned the cycles at the least.

Other persistent idiots still hang out at Apache and the Tim Hortons. I’m all for this.

WARMINGTON: Myron Demkiw says he wants ‘corrupt’ Toronto cops to quit on their own

WARMINGTON: Myron Demkiw says he wants ‘corrupt’ Toronto cops to quit on their own

While he hasn’t fired them himself, Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw said he wants “corrupt” cops to self-identity and resign on their own.

“Let’s be clear: There is zero tolerance for corruption in the Toronto Police Service,” Demkiw told John Moore of Newstalk 1010 on Wednesday morning. “We have stood up our police anti-corruption unit, we are expanding our abilities at professional standards, our members wear this uniform with honour and distinction and it’s a privilege to wear this uniform.”

Letting Muslims run rampant for literally years may have been smart policing in Demkiw’s books but that and all the other two tiered diversity nonsense has cost the TPS its social capital.

Going forward you don’t have to worry about limiting your contact, they won’t show up for any crime incident anyway.

Bradford pledges crackdown on ‘mini-motorcycle’ menace

Bradford pledges crackdown on ‘mini-motorcycle’ menace

Are you sick of those miniature motorcycles increasingly seen on Toronto’s streets? So is mayoral candidate Brad Bradford.

“A pedal welded to a mini-motorcycle does not make it a bicycle. A senior on the sidewalk, a parent in the bike lane and a family in an apartment building deserve more than a city hall that has chosen wilful ignorance over leadership,” Bradford said in a campaign press release distributed Wednesday.

Toronto can always find a way to be crappy.

Toronto police say three off-duty officers are facing charges in Barcelona following “serious” allegations made against them.

In an email to CTV News, a spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service (TPS) said the officers were vacationing in Spain at the time and not travelling in any official capacity.

WARMINGTON: Toronto Police board wants independent probe into Hank Idsinga’s book allegations

Turns out the Toronto Police are no longer taking the position that former inspector Hank Idsinga was just trying to sell his book.

The Hank Effect has kicked in once again with the Toronto Police Service Board on Friday calling for an “independent inspection” into claims of antisemitism outlined in the former cop’s memoir.

Nothing will come of this while the Chow-Islamist cabal is running the city.

Real-estate firm bulk buys $30 million of downtown Toronto condos: ‘They’re sitting empty’

A Montreal-based real-estate company has snapped up $30 million of unsold condo units in downtown Toronto, with a plan to buy $500 million worth over the next year.

Jesta Group, a family-owned global real-estate firm, recently bought a portfolio of condos in bulk at a recently completed building near Toronto Metropolitan University, said Anthony O’Brien, the firm’s senior managing director.

O’Brien said he’s not able to speak about the details or reveal the name of the building due to a confidentiality agreement. But the plan is to hold the units as rentals until the market turns around, which they predict will happen in three to five years.
