Liberals go online to test messages attacking Poilievre’s record

The Liberal Party is beta-testing new videos attacking Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, one of which compares him to former U.S president Donald Trump.

The party confirms that a video it posted online earlier this week was its first to splice together footage of both Poilievre and Trump.

The Liberals’ video uses Polievre’s own recent viral apple-eating moment — when he got into a brusque exchange with a local journalist in B.C. — and attempts to show him taking a page out of Trump’s political playbook. The video shows Poilievre and Trump using similar language.

School children say they are being forced to walk past ‘Venezuelan prostitutes’ in broad daylight at NYC’s ‘Sweetheart Market’

New York school children have complained they are being forced to walk past ‘Venezuelan prostitutes’ in broad daylight, with their neighborhood likened to a Bangkok ‘red-light district’.

High schoolers told how they encounter sex workers ‘virtually on every block’ of the route along the Jackson Heights-Corona border.

Jalene Lugo, 14, said she passed several provocatively dressed women in a doorway on 93rd Street earlier this week and not for the first time.

Howard Levitt: Students who signed petition condoning Hamas should have to answer for their decision

One of my partners sent me the following note this week:

“I trust that the first question that we will ask any potential new hire or student from Toronto Metropolitan University is whether or not they signed the letter condoning Hamas. They should also be advised that if they lie in response to that question it is grounds for dismissal for cause.”

UK: Chief rabbi warns of ‘hateful extremism’ at pro-Palestinian protests

Britain’s Chief Rabbi has criticised pro-Palestinian protesters for “standing alongside” extremists after Rishi Sunak said marches planned for Armistice Day were “provocative and disrespectful”.

In an article for The Times, Sir Ephraim Mirvis says it is “a stain on our common humanity that so many seem to have lost sight of the moral distance between Hamas and Israel”.

His intervention came before a fourth weekend of protests, which has raised concern that such action could trigger wider public disorder. More officers will be on duty than on previous weekends, with at least 1,600 Metropolitan Police officers and 170 drafted from other forces.

David Krayden: The Lich-Barber Trial Has Become A Show Trial, Should Be Declared a Mistrial

In the arena of justice, it is far too easy to exaggerate when we see injustice occurring, and we might be prone to resorting to hyperbole when we assess innocent people to be the victims of unjust charges and a ravenous, perhaps politically motivated, justice system.

But it is difficult to attend the trial of Freedom Convoy personalities Tamara Lich and Chris Barber and not marvel at how all of this has come to pass.

White House signals it’s running out of funding to support Ukraine

The White House on Friday suggested it is beginning to run out of available funding to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s invasion, once again calling on Congress to approve more.

Earlier Friday, the Biden administration announced it was sending another US$425 million worth of additional arms and equipment to Ukraine. Most of the money — around US$300 million — is being drawn from the US$18-billion Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which funds contracts for weapons built or modified by defence companies.

WARMINGTON: Dragging Terry Fox statue into pro-Palestine protest disrespectful

There are some things in life that are off limits and above the debate of the day – or at least they should be.

The Terry Fox statue across from Parliament Hill in Ottawa is one of those things. Yet, there it was this week, with a pro-Palestinian scarf draped around Fox’s shoulders and kids holding Palestinian flags climbing on the statue to pose for a photo.

Charity Commission ‘examines’ British mosques that hosted pro-Hamas hate preachers

Canada does not monitor the goings on in Mosques.

Sermons made since terrorist group’s October 7 attack include calls to ‘destroy Israel’, ‘kill the Jews’ and ‘wage your war for Allah’

The Charity Commission is examining British mosques after they hosted pro-Hamas hate preachers, The Telegraph can disclose.

This newspaper has obtained eight sermons from figures at mosques across the country, including in London, Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester, all of which are linked to registered charities receiving taxpayers’ money.

The speeches, all made since the proscribed terror group Hamas invaded Israel on Oct 7, include calls to “destroy” Israelis and to “come and kill” Jewish people.

Cory Morgan: Poilievre’s Carbon Tax Motion Could Put Trudeau’s Leadership on the Line

Opposition motions in the House of Commons are usually little more than political theatre. Non-binding points of principle and resolutions are made that often are voted down and are usually soon forgotten.

The motion being considered in Parliament next week is different. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s leadership and legacy may be on the line.

GTA condo sales drop 47% as would-be buyers priced out

Elliot Kelly is “rent poor,” stuck spending more than he wants to rent a semi-detached home in Toronto’s midtown because he can’t find an affordable three-bedroom condo.

The father of four says his family made the move from the Ajax home they own to shorten commute times and give them more walkability in a community they love. But even if they sold their townhome worth nearly $1 million, they can’t foot the bill.

For many months, Kelly says all the suitable condo listings he’s seen in Toronto’s midtown neighbourhood are more than $200,000 above what the family can afford. As a result, he says the family is “living paycheck to paycheck” paying rent.

Liberal MP who broke ranks with Trudeau on carbon taxes says he could do it again

OTTAWA — Liberal MP Ken McDonald said he has no regrets for breaking ranks with his party on the carbon tax not once, but twice, and he isn’t ruling out doing it again next week.

The Conservatives are forcing a House vote on Monday on a non-binding motion calling on the government to broaden the temporary pause on the carbon tax for home heating oil, which mostly helps only the Atlantic provinces. The motion will ask the Trudeau government to extend the tax break to all heating fuels, including natural gas.
