NDP will support Conservative carbon price pause motion: Julian

The NDP will be supporting a Conservative motion to pause the federal carbon price on all forms of home heating.

New Westminster-Burnaby MP Peter Julian made the announcement Thursday afternoon following question period, upping the pressure on the Bloc Quebecois to either support the Liberals in voting down the motion on Monday, or join the opposition push.

Be nice if they could goad junior into making it a confidence motion.

Why Do Young Americans Support Hamas? Look at TikTok.

According to a Harvard/Harris poll, 51 percent of Americans ages 18–24 believe Hamas was justified in its brutal terrorist attacks on innocent Israeli citizens on October 7.

I read that statistic at a time where I thought I’d lost the capacity to be shocked. For weeks, I’ve seen the clips and read the firsthand stories documenting Hamas’s atrocities: burned bodies, decapitated babies, raped women, children tied together with their parents, mutilated corpses. I’d seen the rallies on elite campuses celebrating Hamas’s murderous cause, the faculty letters excusing the terrorists. I thought I had grasped the extent of the moral rot. I thought I had seen the bottom.

But I hadn’t.

The Lie Behind the ‘Hearts and Minds’ Plea

Israel can only defeat Hamas by first grabbing Gaza by the balls.

If you get them by the balls, their hearts and minds will follow.” That’s one version. Another, from a veteran military adviser in Vietnam, turned it around: “It was hard to win the villagers’ hearts and minds when the VC had them by the balls.” As we hover on the brink of a full-scale Israeli invasion of Gaza, these wise words have never been more relevant and, sadly, never more likely to be ignored.

What did Hamas think was going to happen?

Much misfortune the woebegone couldn’t have seen coming: a raging fire in the house next door that spreads to yours. The invention of some kooky technology called ‘the internet’ that puts your travel agency out of business. Yet other calamities are foreseeable. If you suddenly stop filing tax returns without a good excuse – like, dying – it’s a virtual certainty that the all-seeing computer will come after you. So when compounding fees and interest leave you skint, our sympathies are apt to be scant. What did you think was going to happen? Or to up the moral ante: if you slaughter 18 innocents in a frenzy for no apparent reason, you have to expect that your own life will soon be effectively over, too – which is why last week’s shooter in Maine, despite Robert Card’s mental disarray, was still sane enough to eliminate himself voluntarily. What did he think was going to happen?

Migrant caravan heading through Mexico to US grows in numbers

A group of thousands of migrants who have set off on foot for the United States from southern Mexico is steadily growing in size.

Its organiser says around 7,000 people now make up this migrant caravan, up from 5,000 just days ago.

Most of them are from Central and South America, local aid groups say.

US President Joe Biden is due to meet leaders from the region on Friday to discuss how to curb the flow of migrants to the United States.

The ‘Two-State’ Solution to Murder Jews

Since Hamas’s October 7 massacre, thousands of Palestinians from the West Bank have been taking to the streets almost on a daily basis to voice support for the Iran-backed terrorist group based in the Gaza Strip.

This is the same West Bank that the Biden administration and many Westerners are hoping will be part of a future Palestinian state next to Israel. Those who continue to promote the dangerous idea of a “two-state solution” are ignoring the fact that Hamas is sitting not only in the Gaza Strip, but in the West Bank as well.

Trudeau’s super-charged battery foolishness reaches new heights

Every week, it seems, we get another report revealing the deep thoughtlessness and fiscal recklessness of Ottawa’s electric car and electric-car battery fixation. For example, the Parliamentary Budget Officer recently asked how long it will take for the federal government to see a return on the $28.2 billion of production subsidies to EV battery-makers Stellantis and Volkswagen. The answer — about four times longer than the government originally claimed.

CBS Calls Campus Anti-Semitism ‘Vigorous Debate’

As threats and violence against Jews escalate across college campuses throughout the United States in the wake of Hamas’ barbaric terrorist attacks, some in media choose to downplay or both-side the overall threat. Case in point, CBS News’ report on the arrest of a student that threatened Jews at Cornell University.

Canadians hold largely negative views of parliamentary debate, many see it as ‘posturing’: Angus Reid

Despite attempts to rein in the rancor at Canada’s House of Commons, Canadians largely hold negative views around the current state of debate in Parliament.

A new Angus Reid survey, released on Thursday(opens in a new tab), asked nearly 1,900 Canadians to choose three words out of a list of 10 that they would use to describe parliamentary proceedings given what they have seen, read or heard.

The most common responses were “posturing” at 54 per cent, “useless” at 46 per cent and “dishonest” at 38 per cent.

Hunter Biden, Secret Agent?

For years, Hunter Biden has been protected by the FBI and probably the CIA and all the other three-letter agencies devoted to national security and spying. His illegal behavior – bribe-taking and money laundering operations – has been made possible by connections to his crooked dad, “The Big Guy,” Joe Biden. But I predict Hunter will slither out of his legal problems with the help of the swamp. But not for the reason you think. This prediction prompts a couple of big questions: Wut? Why? How? And that’s where my theory gets interesting.

Canada’s public health agency lost $150 million on an unfulfilled contract last year. It won’t say why

OTTAWA — The Public Health Agency of Canada is refusing to disclose any information on how it lost $150 million in taxpayers’ money for an unfulfilled contract with an undisclosed vendor last year.

Who was the contract with? What was it for? And why did it go unfulfilled, leading to a loss of $150 million? Those are all questions the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has repeatedly refused to answer.

Anti-Jewish bias has deeply permeated university culture

Many have raised concerns after multiple student groups on university campuses issued alarming statements that characterized the massacres perpetrated by Hamas against Israeli civilians on October 7 as “legitimate resistance” and part of the “decolonization struggle,” insinuating that the victims were to blame for the atrocities committed against them.

Who knew!
