The Liberals broke the immigration system. But better is always possible

This week, when it releases its new immigration targets, the Trudeau government has an opportunity to begin rethinking immigration policy.

For the past eight years, the Liberal plan has been about sharply and steadily increasing permanent immigration, while enabling even sharper increases in temporary immigration – with the two interconnected streams powered by huge jumps in the number of foreign students.

Why? The government’s reasons are a combination of faith and politics.

Immigration is going to mean more extremists marching in our streets.

Already Forgotten

Hamas’s atrocities already are being forgotten, interred in false equivalencies.

Every 9/11 memorial I’ve seen seems to include the words “Never Forget.” I remember that the phrase, so closely associated with the Holocaust, shook me up. But it also felt superfluous. I used to think: How could I? The September 11 attacks changed my country, changed the way we travel, changed our vocabulary. We still hear notices in Grand Central about unattended baggage. Everyone had a story about where they were, what their institution did in response, and even the conversations they had that day. It was also unforgettable because it was cinematic. The destruction of the towers, an iconic part of the New York City skyline, was broadcast. It was the closest thing to collective humanity walking onto the set of a disaster movie.

Sam Bankman-Fried trial: Crypto king blames ex-lover for going bust

Blaming your ex-girlfriend for the collapse of a currency trading exchange and the loss of billions of dollars is a bold move.

The stakes are even higher when you are in a federal court in Manhattan facing an effective life sentence if found guilty. But that is the hand Sam Bankman-Fried chose to play as he testified in his own defence on Monday.

Bankman-Fried, 31, is accused of diverting billions of dollars from customer accounts on his digital currency trading platform FTX to the trading firm Alameda Research, which he also owned, but which was partly run by his former girlfriend, Caroline Ellison. He has been charged with fraud, conspiracy and money laundering, which he denies.

Count Dracula: Undead Bloodsucker or Anti-Jihad Hero?

Did you know that the archfiend best representing the Halloween season — namely, Count Dracula — is fake news?

I don’t mean that he’s fake in the sense that he’s fictional — which, of course, he is — but rather that his entire genesis is grounded in a pattern we now recognize and see on a daily basis: leftist propagandistic forces working to transform heroes into villains.

How much crime is too much for cities like Oakland?

Major cities in the country continue to see their quality of life decrease as crime increases. It is not only violent crime that is causing problems, either.

As of mid-September, Oakland, California, had recorded 11,417 motor vehicle thefts or nearly 41 car thefts a day. In just the week of Oct. 2 – 8, 125 cars were stolen, according to the Oakland Police Department crime data. This does not include the 549 carjackings for the year, which falls under robberies.

Overall, car thefts are up 50 percent over 2022, and carjackings are up 21 percent.

Will Jews return to the Ghetto?

The Jewish Century is rapidly fading

It is a warm Monday morning in Rome, and the city’s ancient ghetto resembles an armed camp. As carabinieri line the streets, a cloud of melancholy hangs in the air: not only had more than 1,400 Jews recently been slaughtered in Israel, but the date — October 16 — marks the anniversary of its residents forced evacuation to the concentration camps. History, it seems, is repeating itself.

Immigration is Transforming the Country…For the Worse

In the wake of the Hamas attacks on Israel earlier this month, a lot of commentators were shocked and angry to learn that a lot of young people did not support Israel and that many had sympathy for Hamas. This shift in public opinion differs greatly from older Americans.

Not only is Generation Z anti-Israel, but it is generally anti-capitalist, anti-military, anti-empire, and many have declared their unwillingness to serve if America resumes the draft.

This is only shocking if you have not been paying attention.

The normalisation of savagery

Hamas Support Rally Toronto

Societies that give up on freedom will soon find it replaced by violence.

Since the Hamas pogrom of 7 October, there’s been a storm of commentary on how unhinged campus culture in the West has become. Politicians and writers are bewildered that at universities where it’s a ‘microaggression’ to ask someone where they are from, and where you can be subjected to a Salem-like grilling for wearing an offensive Halloween costume, actual genocidal violence doesn’t seem to bother people. The same fresh-faced Maoists who will weep and stomp their feet if you say ‘women don’t have penises’ have collectively shrugged their shoulders over the mass murder of Jewish women and children. Some have even justified it. ‘Glory to our martyrs’, said a projection on to the wall of a building at George Washington University.

‘Absolutely’ no more carve-outs or pauses on carbon price, PM Trudeau says

The federal government will not be offering any more carve-outs to the carbon pricing policy beyond the plan to pause the tax on home heating oil, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Tuesday, doubling down on comments his natural resources minister made.

“There will absolutely not be any other carve-outs or suspensions of the price on pollution,” Trudeau said. “This is designed to phase out home heating oil, the way we made a decision to phase out coal… This is specifically about ending the use of home heating oil, which is more polluting, more expensive, and impacts low-income Canadians to a greater degree.”

Military Backtracks, Will Allow Chaplains to Say Prayer on Remembrance Day

The Canadian military will revisit a new policy banning chaplains from prayer during official functions, The Epoch Times has learned, and chaplains will now have the choice to pray at Remembrance Day ceremonies on Nov. 11.

In an Oct. 30 email seen by The Epoch Times, Chaplain General Brigadier-General Guy Belisle told the chaplaincy he continues to support the “spirit” of the new directive, but leeway would be provided to chaplains following backlash.

Jewish federation urges Vancouver college to fire instructor who praised Hamas attacks

At a pro-Palestinian rally on Saturday, Dr. Natalie Knight, an English instructor at Langara College, addressed the crowd.

In her remarks on the Vancouver Art Gallery steps, Knight called the October 7 attacks by Hamas that left 1,400 Israelis dead and hundreds more kidnapped, “the amazing, brilliant offensive waged on October 7.”

The comment, which drew cheers from the crowd, horrified the CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver.

Colby Cosh: Liberal hypocrisy on full display with regional carbon-tax carve-out

You know, there was just a small chance that the Liberals could have gotten away with giving a timely political break to the Atlantic provinces by suspending the carbon tax on heating oil for home use. I’m sure I was personally well into my 30s as an Albertan before I learned that many homes out East are still heated in that picturesque 19th-century manner. “Wait, you burn liquid fuel? That sits in a big tank? And it has to be delivered in a truck?” I didn’t have a similarly mind-bending WTF experience until quite recently, when I heard how many Ontarian homeowners are (inexplicably) renting their water heaters from somebody.
