Under its ongoing agreement with Ottawa, SDTC has $1 billion in federal funds to distribute to small and medium-sized businesses in the clean tech field between 2021 and 2026.

Family harassed, sleepless nights — Muslim MPs fear for their communities, and themselves, as Mideast war fuels racist incidents

OTTAWA—Some Muslim Liberal MPs say they’re afraid for their families and communities as the Israel-Hamas war has fuelled a rise in Islamophobia and racism over the last week.

Three MPs who spoke with the Star on Tuesday described feeling intense fear as they’ve seen disturbing reports of Islamophobia, including against their own family members, just as Jewish MPs have spoken out against an uptick in antisemitic incidents since the war started.

Muslims fear backlash from tomorrow’s planned atrocities.

NYU student who destroyed posters of Israeli hostages used to work for the Jewish Anti-Defamation League – as she claims it has been ‘difficult’ as a ‘biracial brown woman’

An NYU student has admitted to tearing down posters of Israeli hostages – blaming her exploits on ‘misplaced anger’.

Yazmeen Deyhimi, a junior at NYU who once worked for the Anti-Defamation League and a self-acclaimed ‘activist,’ confessed to tearing down the flyers of hostages that were plastered outside NYU’s Tisch Hall on Monday and tossing them into the trash.

A now-viral video of their actions has sparked backlash, with many calling for the university to hold the three perpetrators accountable.

We Went to a Pro-Palestine Protest. This Is What We Heard.

Hamas Support Rally Ottawa

… Most everyone I spoke with agreed Israel was an illegitimate “apartheid” state. They viewed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as an extension of the antiracist, progressive-identitarian crusade in the West—even though as many as 70 percent of Israelis are Sephardic or Mizrahi, meaning they come mostly from the Middle East and hardly “present” as white.

The marchers used words like colonizer and oppressor to describe the Jewish state.

“What Hitler did to the Jews, or the Zionists—sorry—the Zionists are doing worse now to the Palestinians,” Abdullah, a Palestinian, told me.

Tories blocked from summoning CBC execs over network’s refusal to label Hamas ‘terrorists’

OTTAWA – An attempt by the Conservatives to summon CBC executives over the network’s refusal to describe Hamas as terrorists was blocked Tuesday by the Liberals, the Bloc Québécois and the NDP.

Conservative deputy leader Melissa Lantsman put forward a motion to the parliamentary committee on public accounts asking it to denounce the position of the public broadcaster, and to call various CBC executives to appear in front of the committee for a minimum of two hours each. She had wanted to call CBC president and CEO Catherine Tait, English-services ombudsman Jack Nagler and director of journalistic standards, George Achi.

Gaza – a great place to raise your kidz up

Canadian father wants to get his five children out of Gaza, but evacuation still impossible

From his perch outside the Nasser Hospital, in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, Mansour Shouman can say with some certainty that Tuesday was the worst day so far.

He says he saw 100 bodies leave the hospital, wrapped in white sheets, bound for a graveyard. He describes seeing children asking the corpses of their parents to wake up and widows weeping on dead husbands. This was all on Tuesday.

“Man with Canadian passport seeks relief from foolish decision.”

Attacks across Europe put Islamist extremism back in spotlight

For months now, authorities charged with keeping Europe safe from Islamist extremist violence have been sounding the alarm. In May, Dutch security services warned that the terrorist threat from Islamic State to Europe had increased. The same month, the French interior minister said the risk of Islamist terrorism was rising again and that his own country was being targeted, as well as its neighbours.

In recent days, these pessimistic forecasts appear to have been vindicated. France is deploying 7,000 extra troops on to its streets after a teacher was fatally stabbed on Friday in an attack that Emmanuel Macron condemned as “barbaric Islamic terrorism”. The suspected attacker swore an oath of allegiance to IS in an audio recording on his phone shortly before the killing, prosecutors have said.

Conservatives call return of ISIS wifey ‘unacceptable’

ISIS whore Dure Ahmed – back in Canada

The Conservatives say it’s “unacceptable” that the federal government allowed a Canadian woman with ties to ISIS to re-enter the country.

CBC News reported Tuesday new details about the identity of a 33-year-old woman the government repatriated with her children in April from a detention camp in northeastern Syria.

Dure Ahmed, who is now living in the Toronto area under conditions, was married to El Shafee Elsheikh. He’s a high-profile ISIS militant who was part of a cell known as “the Beatles” because of their British accents.

Elsheikh is the highest ranking ISIS member to be tried in the U.S. He’s serving multiple life sentences in a supermax prison for his role in the deaths of eight American, British and Japanese hostages.

City Bylaws Increasingly Used to Prohibit ‘Offending’ People in Canada

Measures with the stated purpose of preventing discrimination are increasing in cities across Canada, but some say they put undue restrictions on free expression.

Waterloo, Ontario, added a section to one of its bylaws this month to ban speech on public property that makes others “feel harassed.” Calgary has a similar bylaw against causing “offence or humiliation” anywhere in public.

In recent years, Edmonton and London, Ontario, have also passed such bylaws.
