Feds Paid $6.7M for Hotel Quarantine Rooms Used by 15 People: Document

The federal government paid over $6.7 million last year for COVID-19 quarantine rooms in a Calgary-area hotel used by only 15 travellers, according to an Inquiry of Ministry recently tabled in the House of Commons.

The Westin Calgary Airport hotel—which the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) designated as a quarantine facility under Section 7 of the Quarantine Act in June 2020—housed just 15 quarantined travellers from January 2022 until the end of September, for which it received over $6.7 million from the federal government.

More than 2,000 rabbis write to Speaker McCarthy urging him to kick Ilhan Omar off Foreign Affairs Committee

A group representing more than 2,000 rabbis are affirming their support for keeping Representative Ilhan Omar off the Foreign Affairs Committee as a ‘step’ toward snuffing out antisemitic speech in the U.S.

In a letter to Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York, the rabbis wrote requesting the House ‘follow through’ on Republicans’ pledge to remove the Minnesota Democrat from the committee on which she currently serves.

The communication from the Coalition for Jewish Values comes as some GOP members of the House have expressed they would not back McCarthy’s plans to strip Omar of her panel assignment.

Trudeau gov’t to send tanks to Ukraine while own military suffers from underfunding

Since early 2022 the Trudeau government has given $5 billion ‘in direct financial, military, humanitarian, and other assistance to Ukraine.’

OTTAWA (LifeSiteNews) — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government said it will be giving some of its battle tanks to Ukraine despite the fact the Canada’s own military has aging equipment and is woefully underfunded compared to some of its allies.

On January 26, Canada’s Defence Minister Anita Anand announced that Canada will be gifting Ukraine four of its 82 German-made Leopard 2 battle tanks, along with the training and resources to use them. The tanks are expected to be delivered to Ukraine sometime later this year.

Anand was in Ukraine in early January, which is when she was asked by her Ukrainian counterpart Oleksii Reznikov for the tanks.

Belgian buyer of Europe’s spare tanks hopes they see action in Ukraine

On the outskirts of Tournai, a sleepy medieval town in the gentle, Brueghelian landscape of the French-speaking part of Belgium, there is an unassuming grey hangar, barely hidden behind a fence. Inside are rows upon rows of German-made Leopard 1 tanks and other heavy fighting vehicles – some of the same types of weapons that top Ukraine’s military wishlist.

The hangar belongs to the Belgium defence company OIP and contains one of the biggest privately owned reserves of weapons in Europe. “Many of these tanks have been sitting here for years. Hopefully, now it is the time they finally see some action in Ukraine,” said Freddy Versluys, the head of OIP, as he toured the hangar.

“Here we have the 50 Leopard 1s,” he said, pointing. “We also have 38 German Gepard tanks, 112 Austrian SK-105 light tanks, and 100 Italian VCC2 and 70 M113 armour carriers.”

As both the government and auto makers push to make car owners transition to electric vehicles, astronomical prices threaten to make that out of reach for many Canadians.

That means that while the federal government wants every passenger vehicle sold in Canada to be electric by 2035, unless the prices become more reasonable for the average consumer, it might not be a realistic expectation.

James Godfrey, general manager at Eastway Toyota and Lexus of Windsor, says electric vehicles — a promise on the near horizon of buyers everywhere — are sold at much higher price points than internal combustion engine vehicles or hybrids. And due to supply chain issues, he says, vehicle prices in general have seen a big jump in the last few years.

The CBC is running propaganda for the LPC’s zealous commitment to a dubious technology that auto manufacturers have begun speaking out against.

Activists demand justice after shooting death of double amputee by Huntington Park police

Activists outraged at the shooting death of a 36-year-old double amputee demanded justice and accountability Monday during a news conference.

The Coalition for Community Control Over the Police and the family of Anthony Lowe Jr. held the conference to bring awareness to Lowe’s death.

“He was loved,” Ellakenyada Gorum, a cousin said as she sobbed. “And it’s sad how these police are getting away with killing our African American people. Just getting away with it. He was in a wheelchair. What more could he do? What more could he do?”
