‘Irresponsible populist nonsense’: Addictions minister calls out Poilievre over drug policy

OTTAWA – Mental Health and Addictions Minister Carolyn Bennett says Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s comments about safe drug consumptions sites are “irresponsible” and “misguided.”

Her comments come after Poilievre released a video Sunday titled “Everything feels broken,” in which he says safe consumptions programs need to be defunded, because they lead to “massive” increases in overdoses and crimes.

York Police Say All Seizures of Guns Used in Violent Crime Whose Origins Were Traced Came From US

According to “Guns, Gangs, and Violence,” a new police report by York Regional Police in Ontario, 100 percent of seized guns whose origin could be traced were found to be illegally smuggled into Canada from the United States.

In presenting the report to the York Regional Police Services Board on Nov. 7, Inspector Ahmad Salhia said that the Liberal government’s handgun freeze with Bill C-21 is not targeting the smuggling of illegal weapons into the country.

Workers at Canadian Tire factories overseas paid poverty wages, labour groups allege

Canadian labour groups have filed a complaint with a federal corporate watchdog saying Canadian Tire failed to ensure workers in its South Asian supplier factories are paid a living wage.

The Canadian Labour Congress and the United Steelworkers Union filed the complaint with the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise on Monday.

They allege that workers in Bangladeshi garment factories that supply Canadian Tire subsidiary Mark’s with clothing sold under brand names like Wind River, Denver Hayes, Dakota and Helly Hansen are paid poverty-level wages.

At least seven dead after ‘manager’ opens fire in Virginia Walmart

Seven people were killed at a Walmart in Virginia on Tuesday night in a shooting rampage that an employee claimed was carried out by a store manager who then turned the gun on himself.

Officers responded about 10:15 p.m. to a report of a shooting at the Walmart on Sam’s Circle in Chesapeake, where they found multiple dead people and injured, police said.

The city said in a tweet at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday that there were seven fatalities, including the shooter.

Ukraine’s security service raids Russian-backed monastery in Kyiv

Ukraine’s SBU security service and police have raided a 1,000-year-old Orthodox Christian monastery in Kyiv as part of operations to counter suspected “subversive activities by Russian special services”.

Located south of the city centre, the sprawling Kyiv Pechersk Lavra complex – or Kyiv Monastery of the Caves – is the headquarters of the Russian-backed wing of the Ukrainian Orthodox church that falls under the Moscow patriarchate, as well as being a Ukrainian cultural treasure and a Unesco World Heritage site.

The sight of a dog running through town with a severed hand in its mouth led to a gruesome discovery in Mexico — 53 buried bags filled with human remains.

The sickening cache of decaying bodies was found in late October during a festival called El Cervantino in Guanajato, a violent state ravaged by drug cartel murders, according to Agence French-Presse.

Desperate people rushed to the burial site in the town of Irapuato after seeing the dog with the exhumed hand, and started looking for signs of their lost loved one — even as music from the nearby celebration could be heard in the background.

Sam Bankman-Fried’s FTX, senior staff, parents bought Bahamas property worth $300 mln

NEW PROVIDENCE, Bahamas, Nov 22 (Reuters) – Sam Bankman-Fried’s FTX, his parents and senior executives of the failed cryptocurrency exchange bought at least 19 properties worth nearly $121 million in the Bahamas over the past two years, official property records show.

Separately, attorneys for FTX said on Tuesday that one of the company’s units spent $300 million in the Bahamas buying homes and vacation properties for its senior staff, and that FTX was run as a “personal fiefdom” of Bankman-Fried. No further details were given.

When the news broke that an armed man had entered Club Q, an “LGBTQ” nightclub in Colorado Springs, at about midnight on Saturday, on the eve of something called the “Transgender Day of Remembrance,” and had proceeded to kill five people and wound at least twenty-five, one thing seemed all but certain. It was too early to know what had motivated the perpetrator, Anderson Lee Aldrich (who apparently was arrested last year, after a “brief standoff with law enforcement,” for making a bomb threat against his mother). But it seemed a safe enough prediction that the usual “LGBTQ” activists and their allies in the media would soon be spinning this atrocity to their advantage.

On April 25, 1976, the Chicago Cubs were playing the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.  Halfway through the game, an unemployed protester and his 11-year-old son jumped onto the field and attempted to light an American flag on fire.  Cubs centerfielder Rick Monday saw what they were doing, ran over, and grabbed the flag away from them before they were able to burn it.  The crowd gave Monday a standing ovation and spontaneously sang “God Bless America.”

Mendicino says Lucki warned him of ‘urgent’ threat of violence in Alberta before Emergencies Act was invoked

Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino says the head of the RCMP shared with him sensitive police information the day before the government decided to invoke the Emergencies Act — and warned him that some protesters in Alberta were “willing to go down with the cause.”

“This was a threshold moment for me. There is no doubt about it,” Mendicino told the Public Order Emergency Commission Tuesday.

The minister said he spoke with Commissioner Brenda Lucki on Feb. 13. During that conversation, he said, Lucki updated him on plans to execute a police operation at the blockade near Coutts, Alta.

The question remains … How many RCMP informants were part of this band of revolutionaries?

IN September, when commenting on the evil killing of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel at bedtime in her own home, I said, ‘A final word to the “lock ’em up brigade”. The thing about locking criminals up for a long time (the serious ones, the nasty ones) is that then they are not free to burst into the homes of little girls at bedtime to continue their gangland feud. If you lock up dangerous criminals they can sort out all their feuding in prison, where they should have plenty of time on their hands. Only then can the children have a peaceful bedtime story instead of being fatally shot in their own homes.’

We should all remember this when some bleeding-heart liberal tells you the prison population is ‘too high’.

Racism cannot explain away youth violence

We must not make excuses for violent perpetrators.

Youth violence is intrinsically tragic. It is a catastrophe that so many young men and boys, due to a complex matrix of moral, social, economic and cultural reasons, make decisions and take actions that will likely lead to the permanent and vicious disfiguring of their lives and those of others. There is no silver-bullet solution or public-policy programme that will completely resolve this issue. One thing we must not do, however, is hand the young men caught up in youth violence an excuse – a narrative about deprivation or racism that can be used to excuse or explain away their behaviour.
