China, Vatican extend deal on bishop appointments

A 2018 arrangement aims to ease a longstanding divide between an underground flock loyal to the pope and a state-backed official church. Critics say it accommodates Beijing communist government.

China and the Vatican extended a secretive deal regarding the appointment of bishops in the communist country.

Under the agreement, which has never been made public, the Vatican and Beijing agreed jointly to appoint bishops but Pope Francis has the final say.

The deal was signed in September 2018 and is still provisional but has been renewed twice.

“The Vatican Party is committed to continuing a respectful and constructive dialogue with the Chinese Party for a productive implementation of the Accord and further development of bilateral relations, with a view to fostering the mission of the Catholic Church and the good of the Chinese people,” the Holy See Press Office said on Saturday.

Canada Prime Minister Announces National Handgun Freeze…Or So He Thinks

Someone forgot to tell Justin Trudeau that he can’t stop the signal. On Friday, October 21, the feeble Canadian Prime Minister announced that handgun ownership has been frozen. No further purchases, transfers or imports of handguns are allowed. At least under officially recognized government databases.

Trudeau mocks Poilievre’s absence at annual Parliamentary Press Gallery dinner

 

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre did not attend the press gallery dinner on Saturday evening, but he was nonetheless much of the focus of a long-standing political tradition of lobbing light-hearted shots at political rivals during speeches at the event.

The traditionally annual event sees politicians and journalists who work on Parliament Hill come together for an evening of laughs at each other’s expense, but it was put on hiatus for two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

NDP unlikely to pull support for Liberals if commission concludes use of Emergencies Act was unjustified: Singh

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says it is unlikely that his party would pull their support for the Liberals if the Public Order Emergency Commission examining the federal government’s invocation of the Emergencies Act concludes that doing so was not justified.

In an interview on CTV’s Question Period, Singh said the New Democrats will reserve their judgement until all of the facts are aired by the national inquiry. But, hypothetically speaking, “simply because it was the wrong decision wouldn’t be enough for us to break, or to force the country into an election.”

That includes more than half of the G7 and G20 countries. Two-thirds of the countries in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development are also cutting taxes.

Ukraine war: Massive Russian strikes target energy grid – Zelensky

Russia has launched a “new massive strike” targeting Ukraine’s energy grid, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

He said the attacks were on a “very wide” scale, hitting Ukraine’s regions in the west, centre, south and east.

Nearly 1.5 million households were without electricity, Kyiv said.

But Mr Zelensky said most of the Russian missiles and drones were being shot down, and such strikes would not stop a Ukrainian military advance.

Freeland and Junior need to be told in no uncertain terms that support for Ukraine is contingent on dropping their economy destroying green-scam measures. The rising costs of fuel, heat and food will quickly erase whatever goodwill the public holds for Ukraine.

No one is buying the lie Freeland has been peddling that the Ukraine crisis has created an inexorable demand to abandon relatively cheap and plentiful fossil fuels for unsustainable faux-green solutions.  

No one will long tolerate the needless suffering caused them by the Liberal Government’s childish environmental policy a scam now cynically imposed in the name of assisting Ukraine.

Freeland’s act of tearfully draping herself in the Ukraine flag is wearing thin.

I bet Freeland & Junior are wondering if they can convince the public to eat unrecyclable solar panels.

Three years ago, 55 jumbo jets from China were touching down at Vancouver International Airport every week.

Now there are only eight flights a week from the world’s most-populous country.

There has been an almost similar plunge in the proportion of Chinese nationals applying for Canada’s 10-year visas. A related decline means fewer people from China are seeking student visas, and showing relatively modest interest in permanent-residence status.

Canada’s border agency confirms it listed the wrong company as having received a $1.2-million ArriveCan contract

The Canada Border Services Agency has acknowledged it provided inaccurate information to Parliament and that it did not award $1.2-million in contract work to Canadian tech firm ThinkOn for the ArriveCan app.

The Globe and Mail reported Thursday that ThinkOn CEO Craig McLellan had written to the Canada Border Services Agency earlier in the week to express concern as to why his company was included in a list of 23 companies the agency said in a report to Parliament had worked on the ArriveCan app.

“There’s a scenario in which, in the next twelve months, Russia uses tactical nuclear weapons against Ukraine and then they attack NATO and we start a conventional war with Russia. The first nuclear weapon is gonna go to New York,” said the 64-year-old NYU economics professor and CEO of Roubini Macro Associates. “Being in New York City is not safe.”

Even if Manhattan manages to avoid nuclear annihilation, there’s still the possibility of a natural disaster, like Hurricane Sandy that flooded New York in 2012, but “much, much worse,” Roubini told The Post. ”In the next 20 years, most of downtown New York is gonna be underwater.”
