RAF pilots could be banned from training Chinese military

Ministers want to change the law to prevent pilots who have served in the armed forces from training the Chinese military after it emerged that Beijing had recruited dozens of British former armed forces pilots to train its air force in an effort to understand western tactics.

At least 30 former fast jet and helicopter pilots have been lured by sums of about $270,000 a year since the start of the pandemic to help China develop its tactics and technological expertise.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) attempted to spin the agency’s low arrest and deportation numbers in fiscal year 2021 by blaming them on the pandemic, a Trump-era rule and lack of cooperation with foreign countries, according to internal documents obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

ICE’s communications team acknowledged that the agency’s Fiscal Year 2021 Annual Report, which featured a massive decline in deportations and arrests, would likely be the subject of criticism, and prepared a response for acting Director Tae Johnson and acting Chief of Staff Jason Houser to downplay the low levels of interior immigration enforcement, according to internal communications obtained via a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. The report was also delayed, which ICE attributed to the fact that the report was a compilation of what would otherwise be multiple separate reports.

Gallup: New low in media ‘trust’

The media apparently has no bottom in the free fall from its golden days decades ago.

The latest sign: Gallup today revealed that the percentage of Americans who have “no trust” in journalism outpaces a “great deal/fair amount” for the first time ever.

“Just 7% of Americans have ‘a great deal’ of trust and confidence in the media, and 27% have ‘a fair amount,” said Gallup in dishing up the depressing news for media outlets.

The behaviour from the so-called “Freedom Convoy” protesters in February was “despicable” and “abhorrent,” Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson told the Emergencies Act inquiry on Tuesday.

Watson is spending the day providing his long-awaited testimony on municipal efforts to handle the three-week demonstration, after his chief of staff and Ottawa’s city manager appeared Monday.

“We had some people dancing on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We had other people urinating at Cenotaph. We had a group that went and stole meals from the (homeless shelter) Shepherds of Good Hope,” Watson said.

Images emerge of mangled Nord Stream: 165ft of blown-up Baltic Sea gas pipe is ‘either missing or buried under the seabed’

Extraordinary first images of a mangled Nord Stream pipeline have emerged, three weeks after it was blown up ‘with extreme force’ in a suspected act of sabotage.

Footage, released on Tuesday, showed at least 165 feet of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline was destroyed or buried under the seabed, following an explosion on September 26 – assumed by many to have been a Russian attack.

Release of the images came as Danish police said ‘powerful explosions’ were behind damage to the two gas pipelines (Nord Stream 1 and 2) in the Danish part of the Baltic Sea. On October 6, Swedish investigators said their own initial investigations had come to a similar conclusion.

Anyone wondering why public trust in government has tanked should review the testimony of Ottawa’s city manager at the inquiry into the federal government’s use of emergency legislation last winter. Residents and businesses were casualties of almost encyclopedic misjudgments by police, the city, the province and the federal government.

Trust in government tanked long before the Convoy arrived on the scene. It was the symptom.

An Afghan woman has hanged herself to avoid being stoned to death in public by Taliban forces after she was accused of running off with a married man.

The 24-year-old woman, named locally as Salima, was caught with the married man by the Taliban after she ran away from her home in Ghor Province, central Afghanistan, on October 10.

Salima, who was also married, was sentenced to death for adultery and was due to be stoned on Friday, while her lover, identified locally as Sirajuddin, was shot dead by the Taliban.

Abdullahi Ahmed Abdullahi directly funded “violent acts of terrorism,” including the kidnapping and killing of people in Syria, said U.S. Attorney Randy Grossman in a statement.

NDP ‘Greedflation’ motion calling for grocery pricing probe gets unanimous support from MPs

An NDP motion calling on the federal government to take steps to tackle “greedflation,” and investigate grocery chain profits, received unanimous support from MPs on Monday.

The motion called out grocery store giants for making “massive profits in the last year,” while the cost of groceries keeps rising. It also calls on the government to “recognize that corporate greed is a significant driver of inflation, and to take further action to support families during this cost-of-living crisis.”

I don’t like our corporate class for lots of reasons and I especially despise the grocery barons who conspired to literally steal bread from the mouths of children for 14 years.

No one went to jail because Canada is as corrupt as a Banana Republic.

Nothing will come of this NDP grand standing.

Ottawa city manager Steve Kanellakos revealed new details Monday about a last-ditch agreement between police, protesters and politicians to move trucks out of residential areas and onto Wellington Street during last winter’s convoy protest in the capital — a deal that would ultimately fall apart just days before the federal government gave police special powers to end the occupation.

Kanellakos was testifying on the third day of the Public Order Emergency Commission, which was triggered when the Emergencies Act was invoked on Feb. 14.
