OTTAWA—The Ontario Provincial Police joined some provinces, civil liberties groups and so-called “Freedom Convoy” protesters Thursday in saying it was unnecessary for the federal government to use the Emergencies Act to deal with last winter’s crisis of demonstrations and blockades.

Lawyers for the Alberta and Saskatchewan governments claimed their provinces were blindsided on Feb. 14 when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the premiers to say Ottawa was considering the never-before-used law to quash the protests — a controversial decision announced later that same day.

The government has said the ban is meant to cut back on material that “could give the wrong impression that criminality is an accepted feature of Jamaican culture and society”.

Polling by Nanos Research Group for Bloomberg News shows 30% of Canadians rank Poilievre as the leader most trusted to reduce inflation, compared with 22% for Trudeau and 10% for Jagmeet Singh of the left-leaning New Democratic Party.

Poilievre’s lead illustrates the extent to which the Conservative chief has been able to distinguish himself on the issue, focusing on cost of living during his campaign for the party leadership and hammering both the prime minister and central bank on it.

A ‘monster’ Pakistani businessman who sexually assaulted a woman in a hotel room before claiming ‘I didn’t know what was allowed here in Britain’ has been jailed.

Umair Farooq, 42, let himself into a hotel room in Llangollen, Denbighshire, where a woman was asleep before ‘quite cynically’ taking advantage of her on May 27 earlier this year.

Mold Crown Court today heard how the victim had left the key in the door, before waking up to find Farooq had entered her room.

Liberals keep ‘putting names’ on sanctions lists, with no backup or transparency, critics say

OTTAWA — Canada has announced sanctions on more foreign nationals than ever as part of its foreign policy, but the government is leaving unanswered basic questions about how those sanctions are actually working.

The Liberal government has issued list after list of new financial sanctions in response to Russia’s February invasion of Ukraine, totalling nearly 1,500 Russians, Ukrainians and Belarussians. What’s not known is how many of those individuals have actually had their money frozen, had money in Canada in the first place, or even why those specific individuals were chosen to be on the sanctions list, say critics.

The Trudeau government is performative bullshit.

The real reason Biden is escalating America’s involvement in the Russia-Ukraine war

(Conservative Treehouse) – In a statement Monday from the White House, President Joe Biden pledged “to continue providing Ukraine with the support needed to defend itself, including advanced air defense systems.”

The statement was a result of a phone call between Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Two days prior, the Kerch Strait bridge between Russia and Crimea was bombed by Ukraine causing a section of the bridge to collapse. Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin retaliated with missile strikes against several cities in Ukraine and key infrastructure for energy.

Gateway Pundit recently published a letter to Gestapo chief Merrick Garland from 34 of the prisoners who are being held under inhuman conditions in the District of Columbia Jail because of their role in the Jan. 6 “insurrection.” But can these unfortunate prisoners really expect any justice from Garland, a rabid partisan and sinister authoritarian who has sicced the FBI on parents protesting the woke agenda at school board meetings? He is virtually certain to ignore the letter and allow the heartless treatment it describes to continue. At an event sponsored by the libertarian Cato Institute, President of the Peterson Institute for International Economics, Adam Posen—a man who appears to be paid $450,000 a year—made clear his absolute contempt for the working class.

“The fetish for manufacturing is part of the general fetish for keeping white males of low education outside the cities in the powerful positions they are in in the U.S.,” Posen said. As proof, Posen argued that no one cared when recessions hurt Black Americans.

Posen’s words revealed more than he probably wanted to, like the elitist sentiment of wanting people with less education to have less power, or the way rich elites pander to Black Americans by mentioning them to shut down conversations about class disparities, or the ignorant and racist view that Black Americans don’t work in manufacturing.

The brutal murder of a twenty-two-year-old Iranian woman, Zhina (Mahsa) Amini, at the hands of the Islamic Republic’s “morality police” for wearing her hijab “improperly” has sparked an unforeseen uprising across Iran calling for an end to the theocratic regime. The current demonstrations are the latest chapter in the Iranian people’s courageous movement against the Islamic Republic’s forty-three-year reign of oppression and terror against its citizens—and by extension the region. The brave women and men of Iran have started what could become the second Iranian Revolution.

It’s a lovely thought.

France is haunted by civil war – Jihadis and drug lords rule the banlieues

Ranks of men in uniform are bombarded with Molotov cocktails, makeshift mortars, and small arms fire. Commando units prepare to infiltrate a smoke-covered urban fortress. A city burns under the watchful eye of the press, reporting on “a civil war”.

This isn’t the siege of Aleppo, it’s a scene from Romain Gavras’s Athena, set in one of France’s burning banlieues. Amid the smoke grenades, police and Athenians engage in brutal fighting at close quarters, with metal rods and batons. Later, the police use fire ladders to scale the walls of a tower block. Athenians on wheels circle around a beleaguered police testudo, firing makeshift mortars at point blank range. Men on both sides are visibly shell-shocked.

The US military can’t afford to indulge in trans nonsense

Transwomen are eligible for the draft because they are biologically male.

Thousands of would-be American soldiers were apparently deeply wounded last week – not from enemy fire, but by a tweet issued by the US Selective Service System (SSS), the body that oversees conscription to the US army. The tweet was a reminder to parents that their sons, if aged 18 to 25, are legally required to register with the SSS. While US citizens are not currently being conscripted into the armed forces, the register is as a contingency measure should the draft be reintroduced in the event of a war or a crisis.
