American history can best be understood not as a single continuum but as a series of Republics, each arising from the ashes of its predecessor. The First Republic, born of the American Revolution, ended with Andrew Jackson’s Trumpian assault on the genteel elites of his day. Jackson’s Republic in turn collapsed into the fratricidal bloodshed of the Civil War, which gave birth to a Third Republic, ruled by an incredibly wealthy class of Northern-based industrial capitalists, which collapsed in the face of the Great Depression. The Fourth Republic, Franklin Roosevelt’s, was centred around the strong Federal state that won the Second World War, sent men to the moon, and overcame the rival Soviet empire.

Trudeau unveils more Iranian sanctions, stops short of terrorist designation

OTTAWA—The Canadian government will further penalize leaders of Iran’s theocratic regime and its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for human rights abuses, but stopped short of designating the military branch of Iran’s armed forces a terrorist entity.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced new economic and immigration sanctions, more money for enforcement and more targeted individual sanctions. He also said Canada will list the Iranian regime under a provision of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, a move he said will target more than half of the IRGC leadership, by permanently banning “more than 10,000 officers and senior members” from Canada.

Haiti government prepares to ask for ‘specialized armed force’ from abroad

Haiti’s government has authorized the prime minister, Ariel Henry, to ask the international community for a “specialized armed force” to address a crisis caused by a blockade of the country’s main fuel port that has led to crippling shortages, according to a decree circulating on Friday.

Haiti has ground to a halt since a coalition of gangs blocked the Varreux fuel terminal last month. The lack of gas and diesel has crippled transportation and forced businesses and hospitals to halt operations.

It has also led to a shortage of bottled water, just as the country confirmed a new outbreak of cholera, the spread of which is controlled through hygiene and clean water.

MP Ahmed Hussen tells Parliament he knew about Laith Marouf contract for a month before speaking out

OTTAWA – Diversity and Inclusion Minister Ahmed Hussen admitted to MPs he was alerted to the antisemitic tweets of a consultant hired by the government for anti-racism training a month before he first spoke out on the issue.

Earlier this year, Hussen’s department gave a $133,000 grant to the Community Media Advocacy Centre (CMAC) to build an anti-racism strategy for the broadcasting sector. On Twitter, Laith Marouf, a senior consultant with CMAC, has referred to “Jewish White Supremacists,” as “loud mouthed bags of human feces.” He also used anti Francophone slurs and called French an “ugly language”

Chinese authorities have opened at least one “overseas police service station” in the United States as part of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) global transnational repression, according to human rights group Safeguard Defenders.

“These operations eschew official bilateral police and judicial cooperation and violate the international rule of law, and may violate the territorial integrity in third countries involved in setting up a parallel policing mechanism using illegal methods,” the Spain-based group said in a recent report.

Putin threats: How many nuclear weapons does Russia have?

US President Joe Biden has warned that the risk of a nuclear “Armageddon” is at its highest level for 60 years.

Mr Biden said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was “not joking” when he warned that Moscow would use “all means we have” to defend Russian territory. Mr Putin has also said that the US created a “precedent” by using nuclear weapons in World War Two.

But analysts suggest Mr Putin’s words should probably be interpreted as a warning to other countries not to escalate their involvement in Ukraine, rather than signalling any desire to use nuclear weapons.

Biden Administration’s Nuke Deal: Ensuring Russian and Iranian Terrorist Hegemony Over the Whole Arab World

US President Joe Biden and his administration have, it appears, decided to sacrifice not only the brave people of Iran now risking their lives in a bid for decent governance, but also the Arabs. This betrayal of longtime allies is taking place, it seems, to appease Russia, ever eager to keep the price of oil at a premium, and its new close ally, Iran.

Russia has been the chief negotiator for the US in the “Iranian nuclear deal” talks; the Americans are not even allowed in the room.

The view that the Biden administration is sacrificing its longtime allies, the Arabs, expressed by Sayed Zahra, deputy editor of the Gulf’s Akhbar Al-Khaleej newspaper, is shared by many prominent Arab political analysts; they say they are extremely worried about the possibility that the US and other Western powers may sign a new nuclear agreement with Iran’s ruling mullahs.
