CBC is the major threat that other Canadian media outlets don’t want to talk about

Is now a good time to talk about one of the most destructive forces in the Canadian media? I’m not talking Google or Facebook – though they are challenges to be dealt with – I’m talking about the predatory state-owned operation known as CBC.

On Monday, we were all witness to the bizarre spectacle of one of the owners of the Toronto Star taking the other to court over the direction of the company. One wants cuts to the Star newsroom, one does not.

I am not hopeful that Poilievre will deal with the CBC as promised despite the fact that citizens have long tuned out this rogue public broadcaster kept afloat with their extorted tax dollars.

And what is Stockwell Day on about?  Is he suggesting Poilievre is already morphing into CPC Institution Man?

Alleged Waukesha parade killer Darrel Brooks disrupts 1st day of trial with bizarre antics

The man accused of fatally mowing down six parade-goers during the Waukesha Christmas parade in Wisconsin last year was tossed from court multiple times for a series of strange outbursts on Monday.

Darrel Brooks, 40, disrupted proceedings ahead of jury selection, forcing the judge to take numerous breaks and to eventually instruct him to participate from another room.

Brooks, who is representing himself, bizarrely interrupted Waukesha County Judge Jennifer Dorow, arguing he did not recognize her as a judge or the state of Wisconsin.

The problem is the “data” did not confirm anything beyond the fact that it was skewed by design in order to push the preferred race-baiting narrative as Lorrie Goldstein so ably pointed out.

… But what the report excludes are the crime rates in the various communities with which the police interact.

Logically that’s part of the equation because if they are higher in some communities than others, that will impact the frequency and type of their interactions with police.

However, it has been illegal for police forces in Ontario to gather or reveal this data for decades.

… In other words, while Blacks were disproportionately charged by police compared to whites (15,122 per 100,000 compared to 3,853 per 100,000), whites were disproportionately charged by police compared to visible minority groups other than Blacks (3,853 per 100,000 compared to 2,116 per 100,000).

The problem with this logic is that it infers that for the police to prove they aren’t  racist, they must demonstrate the percentage of people they arrest and charge in every racial group reflects their percentage of the population.

Loretta Lynn, Country Music Icon, Dies at 90

Vocalist Loretta Lynn, whose ascent from a small Kentucky coal-mining community to national country music stardom literally became the stuff of Hollywood, died on Tuesday (Oct. 4) at 90. According to a statement from her family, Lynn passed away in her sleep at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.

Kathy was a huge fan of Loretta. We got to see her live in Chicago some years ago. A very happy accident. I hope K gets a chance to say hello.

Trudeau government out of touch on dealing with Iran

Never a pair of giant flying scissors around when you need one.

… But it also showed something else — how out of touch the Trudeau government has managed to get on the issue of how to deal with Tehran, at political risk to itself.

It was notable in Richmond Hill that the new Conservative leader, Pierre Poilievre, managed to make sure he was front and centre before the assembled thousands, denouncing both the Iranian regime and the government’s failure to put sanctions on Tehran’s notorious Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Justin’s handlers know that support for Iran’s regime is strong among the Shia Muslim community in Canada and particularly within the GTA, a key piece of the LPC’s strength.

Estimates are up to one quarter of Canada’s Muslims are Shia.

Justin will not be allowed to alienate a significant vote bloc.

Ontario gas prices set to see historic single-day jump

Gas prices in Ontario are expected to jump by 10 cents later this week, a single-day jump that one industry analyst says has only happened a few times this decade.

According to industry analyst Dan McTeague, prices at the pump will increase as of midnight on Wednesday.

“You don’t see that very often,” McTeague told CTV News Toronto Monday night. “Normally you see 10 to 15 cents a litre over a two-day period but never in one big fell swoop.”

Prime minister to testify at Emergencies Act inquiry

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be called to testify at hearings into the government’s decision to invoke the Emergencies Act to end anti-mandate protests earlier this year.

The Public Order Emergency Commission, led by former Ontario Superior Court justice Paul Rouleau, is scheduled to begin hearings next week, with the mandate to assess the government’s use of the Act for the first time since it became law in 1988. .

For weeks now, on the uncensored Telegram channels of hard-line nationalists and Russian military bloggers, there’s been a litany of angry criticism of Russia’s military commanders amid a stunning Ukrainian counteroffensive in the Kharkiv region and elsewhere resulting in substantial Russian losses.

Now with the Ukrainians’ weekend victory in Lyman, a Donetsk region city and strategic rail hub southeast of Kharkiv, that criticism is bursting into wider public view, hitting the front pages of some of Russia’s biggest newspapers.

That’s a serious problem for Russia’s military brass — and potentially for the Kremlin.

Government needs to overhaul how it fights scams after ‘historic’ year of losses, anti-fraud expert tells MPs

OTTAWA – Canadians only recovered the equivalent of one per cent of the “historic” $379 million declared lost to fraud last year, leading one veteran retired RCMP expert to call for an overhaul of how authorities combat the crime.

“If the status quo approach to fraud awareness worked, we would not be seeing losses growing on a yearly basis,” John Mecher, an RCMP fraud investigator for 10 years who retired in 2019, told MPs on the federal industry committee Monday.

Freeland peppered with affordability questions, as MPs set to swiftly pass GST boost

Appearing before the House of Commons Finance Committee on Monday, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland defended the government’s response to Canadians’ affordability concerns as “focused” and fiscally responsible.

“I think the support we’re talking about today, the GST tax credit, is actually now support that everyone around this table agrees is the right thing to do,” Freeland said, appearing before the committee to testify about Bill C-30, one of the Liberals’ two affordability-focused pieces of legislation. “It’s targeted, it’s focused, it reaches the people who need it the most. And we have really been careful to keep an eye on spending.”

Killings at ‘epidemic levels’: Nigerian Christians slaughtered by radical Fulani herders, ISWAP terrorists

ABUJA, Nigeria — Suspected Fulani herdsmen killed two Christians in Plateau state, Nigeria, a day after Islamic State terrorists allegedly killed two others in the city of Kano last Saturday, sources said.

In northern Nigeria’s Kano state, suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) shot the two Christians to death at about 8 p.m. local time on Sept. 25 in the state capital, said area resident Chukwudi Iwuchukwu.

He identified the slain Christians as Ifeanyi Ilechukwu, 41, and Chibuke Emannuel, 33. Iwuchukwu said ISWAP terrorists approached them at their shop in Kano city’s predominantly Christian area of Sabon Gari in Fagge County.

The last time I saw Mariana Zhaglo, war was still a rumour. It was January 24, a full month before the Russian invasion, and she stood in her kitchen in Kyiv with the Zbroyer Z-15 hunting carbine she had bought to defend her city against possible Russian attack.

Few of her neighbours believed the Russians would really invade, and Mariana’s preparations — the pickles and tins of fish and ham she had stashed as emergency rations, together with boxes of ammunition — seemed zealously pre-emptive.
