Up in Canada, They’re Signaling Genuine Virtue for Once (Really!)

The nice thing about virtue-signaling is that it requires zero actual virtue. Recite the correct incantation, and — presto-chango! — you’re a terrific person of great virtue. And how could you not be when your similarly transmogrified comrades gently finger-snap their assent to your every word? Even if you did crib those words from them and they cribbed them from a Facebook post or one of those overly wordy yard signs?

U.S. Lays Out a Glittering Plan for Gaza, Including Skyscrapers

The Trump administration laid out an ambitious and highly speculative vision for the future of the Gaza Strip at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday, as Washington tries to advance the thorny cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.

The presentation by Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law, featured slides that depicted gleaming skyscrapers rising on Gaza’s coast and the construction of entirely new cities. The plan would require investment of at least $25 billion in the devastated Palestinian enclave, according to the proposal.

Media Claim ICE ‘Detains‘ Child in Minnesota After Illegal-Migrant Father Arrested

ICE officers protected a single young child after the illegal-migrant father was arrested but establishment media outlets are claiming the sheltered child was “detained.”

“ICE detains 5-year-old Minnesota boy; school leader says agents used him as ‘bait,’” said the NPR headline.

“Preschooler and three other students detained by ICE, school district leader says,” claimed the Star Tribune newspaper in Minnesota.

After Carney’s Davos speech, Conservatives ponder how Poilievre can meet the foreign policy moment

OTTAWA — It’s weeks into a new year and U.S. President Donald Trump is everywhere, again.

Not just everywhere, but on stage at a gathering of world elites, where he reinforced to the crowd of political leaders and the investor class that had descended on the Swiss town of Davos of his desires to make Greenland his own.

The US is actively seeking regime change in Cuba by the end of the year

Emboldened by the U.S. ouster of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, the Trump administration is searching for Cuban government insiders who can help cut a deal to push out the Communist regime by the end of the year, people familiar with the matter said.

The Trump administration has assessed Cuba’s economy as being close to collapse and that the government has never been this fragile after losing a vital benefactor in Maduro, these people said. Officials don’t have a concrete plan to end the Communist government that has held power on the Caribbean island for almost seven decades, but they see Maduro’s capture and subsequent concessions from his allies left behind as a blueprint and a warning for Cuba, senior U.S. officials said.

PM’s Speeches in Davos and Beijing Can’t Be Viewed in Isolation

Although Prime Minister Mark Carney’s address in Davos was polished, ambitious, and fluent, it cannot be read in isolation from his remarks in China last week, where he spoke approvingly of a coming “new world order.” Those words are not neutral. They carry a long and troubling history, particularly when invoked in Beijing, where the phrase is often used to justify the erosion of liberal norms in favour of hierarchy, managed markets, and political control.

When a Canadian prime minister echoes that language, even indirectly, it risks lending legitimacy to systems that reject the very principles Canada claims to defend. Seen in that light, the Davos speech reads less as sober realism and more as an attempt to reconcile democratic values with an emerging order that is neither benign nor aligned with Canadian interests.

We ran high-level US civil war simulations. Minnesota is exactly how they start

Developments in Minnesota closely mirror a scenario explored in a 2024 exercise conducted at the Center for Ethics and the Rule of Law at the University of Pennsylvania, which I direct

Since January 6, roughly 2,000 ICE agents have been deployed to Minnesota under the pretext of responding to a fraud investigation. In practice, these largely untrained and undisciplined federal agents have been terrorizing Minneapolis residents through illegal and excessive uses of force – often against US citizens – prompting a federal judge to attempt to place limits on the agency’s actions. The Trump administration is encouraging the lawlessness by announcing “absolute immunity” for ICE agents. But if the secretary of homeland security, Kristi Noem, does not heed the court ruling, the consequences may be nothing short of civil war.

A civil war to protect criminal aliens is a lefty wish dream.

Jesse Kline: Carney declares world order dead, just don’t ask him about China

Prime Minister Mark Carney took to the podium at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Tuesday to deliver one simple message: the world as you know it is over. But it’s not even clear that Carney knows what he thinks should take its place, or whose side he’s on.

The Prime Minister’s Office billed the trip as a means of deepening Canada’s “economic partnerships,” creating “new opportunities” and pitching our country as the “premier destination for global capital and investment.” But those talking points comprised just five per cent of his speech.

Trump unveils ‘Board of Peace’ in Davos ceremony, claims Gaza war ‘down to little fires’

President Trump unveiled his international Board of Peace during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday, expanding on his vision for a global body to rival the United Nations and claiming that Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip was all but over.

“They’re down to little fires,” Trump said of the situation in the Palestinian enclave, which has been shattered by more than two years of fighting. “We can put them out very easily.”

Unfortunately Muslims are never bored of killing Jews and Infidels so I have little hope that this initiative will do much good.

Doug Ford calls for Chinese EV boycott in Canada after Carney deal

Ontario Premier Doug Ford is calling on Canadians to boycott Chinese-made electric vehicles when they are allowed back into the country under a deal recently struck by Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Ford has been critical of the deal — and the fact Carney did not speak to him about it in advance — saying it will harm Ontario’s auto sector.

Carney and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed while the prime minister was in China that Canada will all but drop its 100 per cent tariffs on Chinese EVs and allow an annual import quota of up to 49,000 of the vehicles in exchange for China reducing its canola tariffs.

Trump meets Zelensky as US envoy says ending war with Russia down to one issue

US President Donald Trump has begun talks with Volodymyr Zelensky at Davos on Thursday, after his envoy Steve Witkoff expressed optimism about finalising a deal to end the war in Ukraine.

“I think we’ve got it down to one issue and we have discussed iterations of that issue, and that means it’s solvable,” Witkoff said ahead of his trip to Moscow for talks with Russia’s Vladimir Putin.
