Two Uvalde officers had chance to shoot gunman, sheriff’s deputy says

Two Uvalde city police officers passed up a fleeting chance to shoot a gunman outside Robb elementary school before he went on to kill 21 people inside the school, a senior sheriff’s deputy told the New York Times.

That would mean a second missed opportunity for officers to stop Salvador Ramos before the 24 May attack inside the school that killed 19 children and two teachers. Officials said that a school district police drove past Ramos without seeing him in the school parking lot.

The unidentified officers, one of whom was armed with an AR-15-style rifle, said they feared hitting children playing in the line of fire outside the school, Chief Deputy Ricardo Rios of nearby Zavalla county told the newspaper.

Economists say to tame inflation, we need cheap oil

Rising interest rates will increase borrowing costs and slow the economy. But they won’t address one of the biggest drivers of inflation: fossil fuel costs.

The chair of the U.S. Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, took the dramatic step of increasing borrowing costs by 0.75 per cent, a move Canada is expected to follow. He said the move will slow demand and help get the jobs market balance out.

“But there are many things we can’t affect,” Powell told reporters this week in Washington.

Justin’s legacy will be cemented by his decision to make Canadians suffer for his vanity.

Woman set on fire on TTC bus in ‘random attack’; suspect arrested

One person is in custody after a woman was set on fire while on a TTC bus Friday afternoon in what police are calling a “random attack.”

Police say they were originally called to Kipling Station, near Kipling Avenue and Dundas Street, around 12:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a man assaulting a woman nearby.

“The man was then alleged to have poured some type of liquid substance or an accelerant on this woman and then ignited that substance, causing a fire and causing the female victim to burn,” Toronto police Const. Alex Li said.

Nothing but rumours about the perp and motive or lack of it so far.

China launches third aircraft carrier in military advance

China has launched its third aircraft carrier, the first designed and built entirely in the country, marking a significant military advance for the Asian superpower.

The announcement comes as tensions between China and the US have ramped up in recent weeks over Beijing’s sabre-rattling towards self-ruled Taiwan, which it views as a breakaway province to be seized by force if necessary.

Launched in a Shanghai shipyard to great fanfare, the Fujian is more technically advanced than the other Chinese carriers.

Will Ukraine Get the Tanks It Needs to Go on the Offensive?

President Joe Biden has announced a new $1 billion weapons package for Ukraine to counter Russian advances in the Donbass region and strengthen U.S. allies’ resolve to sustain and even intensify efforts to arm Ukraine.

Despite Ukraine’s initial success in repelling Russian invaders, many expressed concern that a protracted conflict might favor the Russians due to the sheer size of their force and firepower.

They are used only to inform the permitted antagonists: centrist “Nones” such as Bill Maher and Bari Weiss, or TERFs like Lierre Keith or J. K. Rowling, who take some, but not all, of our arguments into the arena.

A Permanent Shortage of Everything

Globalists were wrong. The world isn’t flat.

First it was baby formula, now there’s a tampon shortage. Tampon prices are up 10% due to the rising price of oil affecting the cost of plastic and higher cotton prices due to mask manufacturing and the war in Ukraine. A whole lot of fertilizer comes out of Ukraine and Russia. So does neon which is used to make semiconductor chips. The chip shortage is shutting down car plants.

This is the thoroughly interconnected world celebrated in prose by journalists like Thomas Friedman who marveled at how Big Data and globalization brought everything together.

The more woke a company is, the fewer minorities want to work there.

‘A more diverse business is a more successful business.’ This has been the mantra of HR managers, business-school professors, CEOs and the Wall Street Journal for several decades now. The ‘business case for diversity’ is that companies whose staff represent a range of different identities are more profitable than those that employ only old white men. In other words, it makes financial sense for businesses to get on board with equality, diversity and inclusivity initiatives.

Democrats’ New Catchphrase: ‘A Drag Queen for Every School’

Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe captured the mission of the Democratic Party in 2021 when he uttered this phrase: “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.”

Move aside, Terry. A new catchphrase encapsulates the Democratic Party even better: “A drag queen for every school.”

That demand was uttered Wednesday by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel at an education speech she delivered in Lansing.
