‘A crutch to continue to prejudice’: Montreal’s LGBTQ community fears stigma from monkeypox

David Hawkins wasn’t alive during the height of the AIDS crisis in the mid-1980s, but decades later, his organization is still working on dispelling harmful myths associated with the disease.

“All these years later, it is still seen as being the gay disease, and it’s stuff like that that people still point to as the reason for the blood ban for men who have sex with men to donate blood … We’re still fighting that,” said the executive director of Montreal’s West Island LGBTQ2+ Centre.

Now, LGBTQ advocacy groups and experts are concerned about another wave of discrimination hitting the community as several countries, including most recently Canada, are confirming cases of monkeypox, which has so far been identified mainly among men who have had sexual relations with other men.

The Trudeau government isn’t using all the tools to protect Canadians from inflation, economist says

… Prime Minister Trudeau and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland have been reminding people that the factors driving inflation are not entirely within their control. Supply chain backlogs and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine are the main culprits making life less and less affordable for Canadians — especially those on fixed incomes.

One expert said the government’s talking points on the causes of inflation are “a bit of a cop-out.”

“It’s a half-truth at best,” said Carleton University economist Vivek Dehejia during a panel discussion on this weekend’s edition of The House about what can be done to reduce the impact of inflation on Canadians.

They are however continuing their mass immigration plans. They hope to fight inflation by depressing wages. It’s a lie. It won’t work because the total of working class wages are simply not large enough to move the inflation needle. In truth it’s their justification for doing their corporate cronies a favour.

Skateboarder Taylor Silverman rips trans competitors who win: ‘Unfair’

A female skateboarder is flipping out at transgender athletes who are allowed to compete in women’s events — saying it’s costing her thousands of dollars in prize money.

“I am sick of being bullied into silence,” Taylor Silverman, 27, complained on Instagram Wednesday, already landing more than 17,000 likes, as well as a flurry of attacks accusing her of being transphobic.

Silverman, from Kalamazoo, Michigan, complained that she has competed in “three different contests with trans women, two of which I placed second.”

Was an American narco-terror operation against Hezbollah halted to advance the Iran nuclear deal?

Israeli filmmaker Duki Dror’s new documentary, “The Cassandra Prophecy,” retells the story of “Project Cassandra,” an eight-year operation led by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency with the assistance of the Israeli Mossad, targeting a six-continent drug-trafficking and money-laundering enterprise that financed Hezbollah’s terrorist activities in Israel, the United States and elsewhere. American agents, with the help of Israeli intelligence, conducted drug raids, confiscated billions of dollars, arrested senior Hezbollah officials and severely damaged the terror organization’s pipeline of laundered cases. It was a successful model for economic warfare repeated elsewhere to this day. Then, it all just stopped.

Are China’s Covid lockdowns a preparation for war?

Xi Jinping is making it increasingly difficult for citizens to leave the country

Life for ordinary Chinese people like me is changing fast — both in and outside of the mainland. As restrictions grow ever tighter across the country, people are beginning to question if they are really about Covid. Take, for instance, the latest announcement by China’s National Immigration Authority (NIA), that they intend to ‘strictly restrict non-essential outbound activities of Chinese citizens’.

BLM supporters got what they paid for

The surge in support for the movement was purely about cleansing white guilt.

More details recently emerged about epic payouts to, and property purchases by, the leaders and family members of the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, one of the main organisations formed under the banner of Black Lives Matter to raise awareness about police brutality against black Americans. In the wake of George Floyd’s murder, BLMGNF raised $90million, $12million of which has been spent on property. One of the leaders of BLMGNF, Patrisse Cullors, came under fire for purchasing four high-end homes herself, and BLMGNF also paid nearly $1million to a company owned by the father of Cullors’ child, while her brother received $840,000 for ‘security services’, according to tax filings.

Monkeypox: That unasked question

Scientists, it seems, are baffled by the unexplained appearance of the smallpox-like illness associated with rodents called “monkeypox” in the West which brings unsightly sores to the skin of those who are afflicted with it.

Long a disease seen mostly in parts of tropical Africa, it has now made appearances in the U.S. continental Europe, Canada, and the U.K., all at approximately the same time.

Pelosi’s archbishop orders her to stop receiving communion over abortion

Exercising his authority as prelate of San Francisco, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone proclaimed that Nancy Pelosi’s support for unlimited abortion at all stages of gestation prevents her from legitimately receiving communion in the Catholic Church. Cordileone demanded that Pelosi repudiate and repent for “the grave evil she is perpetrating.”

Rashida Tlaib and the Making of her Second Blood Libel

A vile anti-Semite and spreader of blood libels lurks the halls of Congress — while her own party remains silent.

In January 2020, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-Mi) retweeted an unverified tweet by professional agitator and former Palestinian Authority diplomat Hanan Ashrawi, in which she claimed that Jews had kidnapped and killed a Palestinian boy by throwing him into a pond where he drowned. As it turns out, the boy’s death was accidental and Israeli rescue teams resorted to superhuman efforts to retrieve the boy from the pond’s cold, murky waters and revive him.

Vladimir Putin is goading the West into joining the war by creating global food meltdown

Western leaders face the challenge of resolving blockaded exports and the prospect of famine without instigating direct conflict with Russia

In his desperation to achieve some semblance of a victory in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin has demonstrated that he is perfectly willing to employ far from conventional military force to achieve his aims.

The Russian president began the conflict by threatening to cut off Europe’s energy supply if it continued providing military support to Ukraine; a form of blackmail he has subsequently applied against Finland following Helsinki’s decision this week to apply for Nato membership.

He has also made threatening noises about the deadly capabilities of Russia’s nuclear arsenal. And Russian hackers even launched a clumsy attempt to disrupt voting during the Eurovision song contest, which was eventually won by Ukraine.

N.S. court says it cannot intervene in case of teen Syrian refugee allegedly beaten by her father

A Nova Scotia court ruled it cannot intervene in the child protection case of a teenage Syrian refugee whose father allegedly beat her, breaking her nose, when he learned she had been texting a boy.

She must have spoken out against diversity, that’s why they let her dad beat the shit out of her.

The Group of Seven? You Mean The Group of Seven Colonialist Oppressors!

Content warning for Indigenous readers: colonial violence is discussed in this essay.

Let’s liberate the Canadian landscape from the Group of Seven and their nationalist mythmaking

It has taken me a long time to reconcile the Group of Seven and their place in Canada’s mythology. On one hand, I love their paintings: they are beautiful and varied in their landscapes, a representation of these lands in all their sacredness and life. On the other hand, they suffocate. The Group of Seven’s nationalist story surrounds us like the prints of their work that hang in Canada’s households, schools, and galleries.

This sounds like culturally appropriated Bullshit. h/t DM
