Soviet-Style Denunciations On The Rise As Russian Society Confronts Ukraine War

“I think that I acted properly,” said Irina Gen, a 45-year-old English teacher from Penza, a Volga region city of about half a million people. “I don’t regret it. The only problem is that I didn’t manage to reach the minds of our students.”

Gen is under criminal prosecution for discussing Russia’s war in Ukraine with a group of eighth-graders on March 18. One of the students recorded the conversation and released it publicly, prompting prosecutors to file criminal charges that she disseminated “demonstrably false information about the armed forces of the Russian Federation.”

Specifically, Gen was charged for mentioning Russia’s March 9 air strike on a maternity hospital in the Azov Sea port of Mariupol — an incident that Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) officers who questioned her claimed, without evidence, was “fake.”

Is it Time for an Electric Car?

I’ve been a car enthusiast for a long time. In my early teens, I would take a bus from my town in the mountains, down to the city. I walked to the avenue where most of the car dealers were. To their chagrin, I would end up with a large collection of their glossy (and for them pricey) auto brochures. I would pore over these with great interest.

In those days, a fast car would run the quarter-mile in roughly 13 to 14 seconds and do 0 to 60 between six and eight seconds. Such a vehicle would need a large 6 to 7l V-8 and with essentially no power accessories or air conditioning.

Judged by Those Who Believe In Nothing

Welcome to the Woke Inquisition.

The brilliant Nazi-era system of segregating society based on health papers has once again become all the rage. Better yet, modern technology has made it possible to segregate people using digital codes, just like your supermarket organizes products. No need for all that paper anymore! Not only is digital tracking a more efficient way to control people and destroy the world, it’s much greener, too.

Germany is letting Europe down

Berlin is already moving to dilute EU sanctions

It’s beginning to dawn on the mainstream media that Angela Merkel didn’t just leave a “mixed” legacy behind her, but a disastrous one.

There’s an excellent feature in The Times yesterday, in which Oliver Moody provides a blow-by-blow account of how the Germans surrendered Europe’s security to the Kremlin. Moody reports that ‘President Zelensky of Ukraine [has] invited Merkel to visit the scenes of Russian atrocities in Bucha and witness for herself what ‘the policy of concessions to Russia has led to in the past 14 years’.’

Wokeness isn’t the cure to racism – it’s making racism worse

Anti-Jewish and anti-Asian hatred has been inflamed by the politics of identity.

‘Silence is Violence’, said Black Lives Matter and its army of media cheerleaders in the tumultuous summer of 2020. In their mind, anyone who stayed schtum about anti-black racism was complicit in it. If you failed to take the knee or put a black square on your Instagram page or faithfully mouth BLM’s political platitudes, then you were an aider and abetter of violence against people of colour. Does this still hold? Is it still the case that saying nothing about racism amounts to supporting racism? If so, then the very same woke activists who spent the past two years saying ‘Silence is Violence’ should turn themselves over to the cops, because racist attacks have spiked horribly in the US in recent weeks and they have uttered not a word about it.

All the Big Guy’s Bag Men

As the Biden gang’s corruption is exposed, the kingpin shouldn’t feel too secure in his seat of power.

Joe Biden makes up for lacking the gift of gab in his grift of graft.

He may call a “salon” a “saloon” and describe his wife as the former vice president. But the Joe Biden who fails in letters passes numbers summa cum laude.

“The least wealthy [Obama] administration figure is Vice President Joe Biden,” CBS News reported in 2009, “whose net worth is estimated at just $27,012.” Times change, and so did Middle Class Joe’s net worth, which now hovers around $8 million, according to Forbes.

But Forbes possibly missed some of the president’s fortune.

Heartbreak as Canada’s oldest ‘prairie castle’ is destroyed by fire

Canada’s oldest wooden grain elevator has been destroyed in a fire, dashing hopes of reclaiming its wood and preserving a piece of the country’s farming history.

Troy Angus, who bought a pair of dilapidated elevators at municipal auction, last month announced plans to salvage and repurpose thousands of pieces of wood and metal that made up the bulk of the structures, often called “prairie castles” for their towering, regal appearance on the vast landscape.

Justin probably thought it was a church.

Ottawa’s Proposed Bills to Curtail Online Harms ‘Oblivious’ to Reality: Former CRTC Chairs

Any attempts to regulate the internet should steer clear of trying to manage what people have to say, for at best it leads to a quagmire of legal wrangling, while at worst it leads to suppression of free speech by the government, say former chairs of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).

“Early efforts in Canada to create federal regulatory frameworks for the Internet, such as Bill C-10 and the ‘online harms’ proposals, were oblivious to this reality and widely panned as a result,” said Konrad von Finckenstein and Peter Menzies, former CRTC chair and vice-chair respectively, in a recent paper on how to address online harms while still protecting free speech.

Black Lives Matter is just another racket

It often takes time to recognize a racket. Think of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker. For years, they preyed on decent, praying Americans, defrauding them while presenting themselves as people of faith. Or remember Peter Popoff? He was constantly exposed for selling fraudulent products that were meant to “cure” people. They did no such thing. But he preyed on people’s goodness and hopes all the same.

These over-surgeried televangelists claim they can only build their spanking new church if you hand over your hard-earned dollars. Or buy their magical healing water. All the time, they stock up their personal empires or splash it out on overpriced hookers.

Fake federal agent who befriended Secret Service had visas from Iran, claimed ties to Pakistani intelligence

No one’s surprised, right? Certainly you’re not surprised if you read this morning’s post.

Still, there are details here that don’t make sense to me. If these guys are part of an Iranian plot to target U.S. officials, they’d want to be as unobtrusive as possible, right? Make friends with the Secret Service, see what they’ll tell you, but otherwise don’t give your neighbors any reason to be suspicious of you.

That is some kinda weird.

Will Smith banned from Oscars for 10 years — but he can keep award

The Oscars just delivered more than a slap on the wrist to Will Smith: The academy’s board of governors has banned this year’s Best Actor winner from attending the awards ceremony for the next decade after he assaulted comedian Chris Rock at the 2022 ceremony.

The academy’s 54-member board convened for a reportedly “contentious” Zoom meeting on Friday morning to discuss “possible sanctions” against the actor — who will, as it turns out, be allowed to keep his trophy.
