Black Lives Matter filings reveal prominent Democratic lawyer Marc Elias and another longtime ally of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have taken on key roles in the charity amid scrutiny over its leadership and finances.

Elias, best known for his funding of British ex-spy Christopher Steele’s discredited anti-Trump dossier while he served as Clinton’s 2016 campaign general counsel, appears to be representing the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation through his recently formed Elias Law Group. BLM’s national organization repeatedly lists the Elias firm as one of its addresses and states in its short-year 2020 Form 990 that its books were now in the care of the Elias Law Group.

Canada’s first convicted terrorist deemed too dangerous for parole

The first Canadian convicted under anti-terrorism laws enacted after the 9/11 attacks has lost his bid for release after the Parole Board ruled he wasn’t ready to leave prison.

The decision followed a hearing at which Mohammad Momin Khawaja struggled to explain how he had reformed since he was arrested when police disrupted a 2004 bomb plot.

He also appeared to downplay his actions, claiming he thought at the time that he was supporting a “good cause,” and was simply responding to “social injustice” and “suffering.”

He should have said he did it for Black Live Matters. He would get money from Justin.

Trend shows ‘material increase’ in PPC support: Nanos

Nanos Research numbers show a continuing rise in support for the People’s Party of Canada — a trend that began in the summer before the 2021 federal election.

On the latest episode of Trend Line, Nanos Research’s Nik Nanos said that the percentage of Canadians polled who would consider voting for the People’s Party of Canada (PPC) usually sits at around 10 per cent. But as of Feb. 16, that number has gone up to 16 per cent, which Nanos calls a “material increase.”

The PPC is a better bet than the atrophied mainstream parties.

Increased police presence in downtown Ottawa after convoy protesters warned to leave

**Boy does this sound familiar:** Winnipeg General Strike 1919. The Citizens’ Committee of 1,000 quickly formed to organize opposition to the strike. It included Winnipeg’s most influential business leaders and politicians. This committee did not seriously consider the strikers’ demands. It called the strike a revolutionary plot led by a small group of “alien scum.” Winnipeg’s leading newspapers took this view, too. In reality, there was little evidence that the strike was started by Bolsheviks and immigrants from eastern Europe. But the Citizens’ Committee used these unproven charges to block any efforts to appease workers.

New fencing has been erected on the Parliament Hill side of Wellington Street, right next to where ‘Freedom Convoy’ demonstrators have been camped out for three weeks.

It’s the latest sign that police action to break up the downtown Ottawa occupation could be imminent. On Wednesday, police handed out notices to demonstrators warning them to leave the area or face arrest.

Groups of Ottawa police officers could be seen arriving downtown Thursday morning in the vicinity of the protest red zone.

Ontario reports 2,327 new Covid cases … and Ontario loosens up

Ontario reports 37 more COVID-19 deaths; hospitalizations continue to drop

Provincial health officials reported another 37 virus-related deaths and under 1,400 people in hospital with COVID-19 as capacity limits were lifted in most indoor settings today.

A Ministry of Health spokesperson said 36 of the latest deaths occurred over the past 27 days with one death on Feb. 16, nine on Feb. 15 and six on Feb. 14. One death happened more than a month ago.

356 people are in ICU with #COVID19. 80% of patients admitted to the ICU were admitted for COVID-19 and 20% were admitted for other reasons but have tested positive for COVID-19.

There are 2,327 new cases of COVID-19.

Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar has come out defending an Ottawa shop owner who made a donation to the Freedom Convoy in Canada.

Omar said journalists should not be reporting and publicizing the names of people who made ‘insignificant’ donations.

Omar tweeted in response to a newspaper editor from the Ottawa Citizen who had shared a report about Stella Luna Gelato Cafe in Ottawa, which was forced to close down after receiving continual threats.

RCMP identify dozens of financial, crypto accounts tied to convoy protests

… A letter sent to banks names fewer than 20 people the national police service has identified as being involved in illegal acts related to the demonstrations, according to a source who has reviewed the document. It describes the RCMP’s “first disclosure of information” to financial institutions and includes pictures and summaries with details about the people, some of whom are identified as main organizers of the protests.

The Globe and Mail is not identifying the source because they are not authorized to discuss correspondence with the RCMP.

A separate letter to several cryptocurrency exchanges obtained by The Globe notes that the RCMP and the Ontario Provincial Police are investigating cryptocurrency donations in relation to illegal acts falling under the scope of the Emergencies Act.
