Senior Toronto police leader allegedly gave ‘confidential’ exam information to six officers competing for promotion

… According to the documents, Clarke had been acting as a mentor to candidates throughout the fall of 2021, and was also a member of the interview panels for officers seeking a promotion to sergeant.

On Nov. 10, Clarke was directed in an email to cease all contact with applicants she’d been mentoring by Nov. 25, according to police.

Despite that directive, Toronto police allege Clarke continued to help a number of applicants, including transmitting photos of the interview questions for the promotional process to six candidates, the documents allege. This provided these officers with “confidential information to advance their position in the process,” the police documents say.

… Clarke is also alleged to have met with one officer, identified only as H.H., in her home on three occasions in December.

Some people stop by the church because it is right on a popular bike path, while others have come to peer at one particular stained-glass window. They often say “the features of Hitler are recognizable,” Gruber told DW. “Most people are simply curious, no more and no less,” the clergyman says about the pane that dates from 1939/40.

Hundreds of ISIS children held by ISIS in besieged prison in Syria

Fears are growing over the fate of hundreds of children believed to be held by jihadist extremists inside a besieged prison in north-east Syria.

Nearly 850 children are inside Ghwayran prison in Hasaka, which was stormed by Islamic State (IS) group fighters on Thursday, triggering days of battles.

At least 136 people have been killed since the jihadists launched their assault to try to free jailed fighters.

Thousands of IS suspects are held in prisons run by Kurdish authorities.

Majority of Canadians are open to assisting Ukraine, poll finds

 

A national poll shows that a majority of Canadians support or are open to providing assistance to Ukraine as Russia threatens invasion.

A survey of 1,000 Canadians done by Abacus Data between Jan. 20-21 and organized by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress found that 83 per cent were in favour or neutral towards Canada helping Ukraine protect its borders.

Seventy-five per cent also said they supported or could accept providing weapons to Ukraine.

I think the poll is a realistic reflection of Canadian expectations, do something knowing we really can’t do much.

Ukraine slams Biden’s ‘excessive caution’ for withdrawing embassy staff

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson blasted Joe Biden on Monday for pulling US embassy personnel and relatives of staff out of Kyiv.

‘We have taken note of [the State Department]’s decision re departure of family members of [US Embassy in Kyiv] staff,’ spokesman Oleg Nikolenko wrote on Twitter in the early hours of Monday morning.

‘While we respect right (sic) of foreign nations to ensure safety & security of foreign nations to ensure safety & security of their diplomatic missions, we believe such a step to be a premature one & an instance of excessive caution.’

Heidelberg university shooting: Gunman dead after injuring several

A lone gunman is dead after injuring several people inside a lecture hall at Heidelberg University, German police have said.

They said the gunman was in possession of a “long gun”, and that a large operation including emergency services was under way at the university’s campus in Neuenheimer Feld.

It is not yet clear how many people have been injured, or how badly.

Heidelberg is a university town in the southwest of Germany.

Ontario’s COVID-19 death toll has now surpassed 11,000 with 36 net new fatalities confirmed on Monday.

Provincial health officials say there are now 3,861 patients in hospital with COVID-19, including 615 in intensive care, up from 578 one week ago. Last Monday, the province said there were 3,887 patients with COVID-19 receiving treatment in hospital.

Majority of Canadians support more COVID-19 restrictions for unvaccinated: poll

With less than 20 per cent of the eligible population still unvaccinated against COVID-19 and concerns around the Omicron variant wave rising in the country, a majority of Canadians are in favour of imposing more restrictions on those who have not gotten the shots yet, according to new polling.

An Ipsos poll published Monday and conducted exclusively for Global News showed that 67 per cent want the government to impose further measures on the unvaccinated population, with nearly half (49 per cent) of the respondents blaming the unvaccinated for prolonging the pandemic – now entering its third year.

One of the unpleasant realities that became patently clear during 2021 is that leftist operatives, whether inside or outside of the government, have a new tactic to discredit conservativism: They pretend to be conservatives, either to entrap conservatives or to falsely expose them as bad people. The latest example of this kind of fakery is a video that was recently “leaked,” and that purports to show members of the “Patriot Front,” an allegedly conservative organization, revealing their true Nazi colors. There’s nothing conservative about the video but there is a distinct whiff of FBI hanging about it.

A recent and ostensibly insignificant “label change” by the U.S. Department of State sheds light on both President Joe Biden and former president Barack Obama, as well as on a potential presidential candidate for 2024, Hillary Clinton.

On November 17, 2021, the State Department removed Nigeria from its list of Countries of Particular Concern, that is, nations which engage in, or tolerate violations of, religious freedom. It did this despite several human rights organizations characterizing the persecution meted out to Nigeria’s Christians as a “genocide.”

According to an August 2021 report, since the Islamic insurgency began in earnest in July 2009 — first at the hands of Boko Haram, an Islamic terrorist organization, and later by the Fulani, Muslim herdsmen also motivated by jihadist ideology — more than 60,000 Christians have either been murdered or abducted during raids.

The Pentagon Has Turned into a Covid Panic Room

As my son’s school continues with in-person instruction, the federal government, at the direction of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), is using the latest Covid scare as an excuse to waste even more taxpayer funds and remains largely remote. The Department of Defense and the Pentagon dutifully comply with this nonsense. Once upon a time, decreased mask-wearing was held out as a reward for increased vaccination, but vaccination rates have increased while masks remain mandatory virtually everywhere within the Department. And now, on top of this, the DoD and the Pentagon have gone to what is called Health Protection Condition level Charlie (HPCON C). These protocols severely restrict the number of in-office personnel, as well as facility use. A fuller examination of these new policies shows that we have completely lost any sense of risk assessment; our nation and national security are suffering for it.

When will Russian president Vladimir Putin strike Ukraine again? It may be sooner than you think. President Joe Biden stated in his recent press conference that he’s convinced that Russian troops will attack, and Washington’s national security establishment is on edge.

Right now, more than 100,000 Russian troops plus an array of tanks and weapons surround Ukraine from three sides. Last week, a cyberattack hit a number of Ukrainian government websites to test their vulnerabilities and weaknesses. Russia also sent soldiers into Belarus (no one knows exactly how many) and six Russian ships are on the move to the Black Sea where they could be deployed as part of an amphibious attack on Ukraine from the south. Meanwhile, the troop numbers keep climbing.
