Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole steered his party back toward the ideological centre of Canadian politics in 2021 and made this shift a key selling point during the five-week election campaign.
But it was not enough to win Canada’s 44th general election as Justin Trudeau’s Liberals will form the next government.
While Mr. O’Toole’s restyling of the Conservatives resulted in few gains, with projections of only a handful of extra seats at most, his party did hold Mr. Trudeau’s Liberals to another minority government.
What is there to say?
I voted PPC.
The party formerly called Conservative is now remade as a centre-left ersatz alternative to the Liberal Party proving O’Toole is a successful leader, just not a conservative one.
They should rebrand and remove “conservative” from the party name. Clearly the brain trust believes O’Toole and their newly scrubbed ideology to be the party’s future so they may as well ride that pony into the sunset. Given the CPC’s knack for shooting themselves in the foot I’m sure they could find an even worse replacement so what’s the point of even trying. Sphincter relaxant all round!
The PPC increased it’s vote share while winning no seats. They have I hope the determination to stay the course.
Alberta should give serious consideration to leaving as the ex-Conservative party cannot help them. Either that or we nuke Toronto and Montreal. We should probably do that anyway come to think of it.
The predator class won, we lost. No more need be said.
Many are calling for O’Toole’s head on Twitter. They best learn to live with him or find another political home. The CPC is no more.
