It was the liberal case in full: We Americans were a wretched people to have gone there and a depraved people to have stayed for two decades. Some collateral damage upon our retreat was to be expected. We had spent too much time, she suggests, celebrating “the important but tiny gains in human rights won by the small sliver of women living in the cities, while the 75 percent of Afghan women who live in isolated villages and rural areas continue to face the highest level of infant mortality in the world.”

In the years immediately following the September 11th attacks in 2001, American and other intelligence agencies estimated that around 80 percent of Islamist-inspired terror plots against the West originated from Afghanistan or the lawless tribal territories on the Pakistani border.
Afghanistan was a sinkhole for blood and treasure, getting out was long overdue. But bombs and drones work, get serious about Islam and they’ll have a change of heart, screw the collateral damage, act up and every scrap of infrastructure is gone, mass death from above can change minds. The federal government deliberately targeted Black Lives Matter protesters via heavy-handed criminal prosecutions in an attempt to disrupt and discourage the global movement that swept the nation and beyond last summer after the Minneapolis police killed George Floyd, according to a new report.
Movement leaders and experts said the prosecution of protesters over the past year continued a century-long practice by the federal government, rooted in structural racism, to suppress Black social movements via the use of surveillance tactics and other mechanisms.
The report was released by the Movement for Black Lives, a coalition of more than 50 activism and advocacy civil rights groups and professional associations representing Black communities and published in partnership with the Creating Law Enforcement Accountability and Responsibility (Clear) clinic at City University of New York (Cuny) School of Law.

OTTAWA – Liberal leader Justin Trudeau said Thursday his government is unlikely to get everyone who has asked Canada for help out of Afghanistan, because of the Taliban’s stranglehold on the country.
At a campaign stop in Victoria, B.C., Trudeau said Canada now has massive transport aircraft on the ground in Kabul and has staff that are working with Afghans to get them out of the country, but he cautioned the planes may not leave with everyone Canada wants to help.

Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner recently sent a letter asking the federal health minister to study the benefits and harms of alkyl nitrites — the official name for poppers — amid a lack of attention that the lawmaker attributes to stigmatization of LGBT health care.

The Washington Post has come under fire for suggesting the “strikingly sophisticated” Taliban incite less violence on social media than former President Donald Trump.
The outlet published a report Wednesday titled, “Today’s Taliban uses sophisticated social media practices that rarely violate the rules.”
The report said social media accounts run by the Taliban, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, often stayed “within the evolving boundaries of taste and content that tech companies use to police user behavior.”

Afghanistan has a familiar power back in place. Kabul has fallen. The Taliban have won. And Pakistanis are euphoric.
To many a foe, but to others a friend, the cloistered group of extremists has long held cordial ties with Islamabad, and the Taliban’s recent rise from the flames has left many Pakistanis in raptures.
Even the country’s prime minister, Imran Khan, has been waxing lyrical, heaping eulogies on the group of militants, who openly violated women’s rights, in addition to flouting a number of other norms of the civilized world, during their stint in power from 1996 to 2001.
Khan, who often resorts to anti-West rhetoric, said Monday during a ceremony in Islamabad that Afghans have broken the “shackles of slavery.” It was seen as a clear endorsement of Afghanistan’s new rulers, but also as a sideswipe at those who invaded Pakistan’s neighbor in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks in the United States.

The US Capitol is in lockdown while police negotiate with a man in a pick-up truck demanding airstrikes in Afghanistan to ‘kick the Taliban’s a**’ outside the Library of Congress, and saying he’ll blow up entire blocks if Biden doesn’t come to speak to him.
The man in the truck is believed to be 49-year-old Ray Roseberry from North Carolina. At 9.15am this morning, he drove his black pick-up truck onto the sidewalk outside the Library of Congress, opposite the Capitol building.
Congress is in recess so no elected officials are there but there are staffers who are still working in the Capitol buildings. He then called 911, reporting that he had a bomb and wanted to speak to the President.
