George Floyd death: four ex-police officers indicted on civil rights charges

A federal grand jury has indicted the four former Minneapolis police officers involved in George Floyd’s arrest and murder, accusing them of violating the Black man’s constitutional rights as he was restrained face-down on the pavement and gasping for air, according to indictments unsealed on Friday.

The three-count indictment on civil rights charges names Derek Chauvin, Thomas Lane, J Kueng and Tou Thao.

Armed standoff at Portland protest after motorist and BLM ‘volunteer security’ aim GUNS at each other

Dramatic video of an armed standoff in Portland, Oregon has been shared widely on Twitter. It shows a group of protesters aiming their guns at a pistol-wielding motorist before tackling and disarming him at a blocked intersection.

In the 28-second clip, the armed group aims at the driver of a red truck and tells him to put his “f**king gun down!” The video then skips to a later moment in the confrontation in which the driver gets out of the vehicle and is surrounded.

Ontario reports 3,166 new Covid cases … and… Are Ontario ICU counts finagled? … 207K jobs lost but whose counting

Ontario’s official count of COVID ICU patients is missing dozens of cases, hiding the true scale of the crisis in hospitals

As the third wave crests in Ontario, physicians warn the daily tally of COVID-19 patients in ICUs is an undercount of the true number receiving critical care for the virus.

Almost 100 patients who in pre-pandemic times would qualify for the ICU are instead being treated on medical wards, according to data obtained by the Star from more than a dozen GTA hospitals. This represents a substantial portion of critically ill COVID patients not being counted by the province, masking the full extent of the crisis in hospitals.

To cope with the surge in COVID patients, hospitals have had to change the threshold for who is admitted to ICUs, saving those beds only for the very sickest, with most requiring ventilation and other life-support measures.

There’s something to this. Mom was never placed in the ICU at Toronto Western, she was kept in an isolation ward. They did not consider her a candidate for intubation given the havoc created in her lungs from the Hospital acquired Covid she contracted. They had their reasons for denying intubation, still I wonder if she was “triaged” to death.

Statistics Canada says the number of employed people in April working less than half their usual hours increased by 288,000 or 27.2 per cent.

Has the University of Texas found a good way to get rid of bad faculty members?

The foolish woke challenge to the University of Texas fight song — “The Eyes of Texas” — is heating up again, with faculty members making threats. They’re factually wrong, and U.T. needs to call their bluff.

When I first got to U.T., I was charmed by “The Eyes of Texas.” First, it was sung to the tune of “I’ve been working on the railroad,” so it had a nice familiarity. It was sung at football games, with its vaguely menacing promise to the other team that “The eyes of Texas are upon you … You cannot get away. Do not think you can escape them … The eyes of Texas are upon you, ’til Gabriel blows his horn.” It was a good fight song.

The warmongers have gone woke

The CIA is now using ‘intersectionality’ to push its imperial designs.

I am intersectional… I am a cisgender millennial, who has been diagnosed with generalised anxiety disorder… I refuse to internalise misguided patriarchal ideas of what a woman can or should be… I want you to be unapologetically you, whoever you are…’

These are not the words of some blue-haired student or tedious Instagram activist. Rather, they come from a recruitment video for the CIA. The Central Intelligence Agency – infamous for ‘enhanced interrogation’, drone warfare and trafficking drugs to pay for foreign coups – has officially gone woke.

A Blueprint for Tyranny – A new administration leverages street-violence for political gain.

The vulnerability of political freedom and popular sovereignty to tyranny has been a constant theme in political philosophy for 2500 years. It profoundly influenced the creators of the Constitution, an important purpose of which is to forestall the tyranny that destroys political freedom and citizen rule. In the writings of Classical philosophers and historians the Founders could see the blueprint for such a tyranny––one we have seen unfolding in the last few decades, and accelerating in the policies of the current administration.

Woke Racism Is a Systemic Problem in America

America’s woke Left lectures the rest of the population almost daily that racism is evil, and that they are the ones fighting it. Yet, their ugly and racist reactions to Senator Tim Scott’s (R-SC) speech demonstrate that the woke Left is no different from the very racists they condemn. The woke Left judges people and treats others differently based on the color of their skin, with particular hatred reserved for minorities who don’t embrace the woke ideology. The only difference between the skinheads and the woke Left is that the woke Left hides its racism under cover of nice-sounding words such as “fact-finding,” “equity,” “social justice” and, of course, “anti-racism.”

Sweden Sentences Man Who Fought ISIS for War Crimes

The Supreme Court of Sweden has sentenced a former Peshmerga fighter who fought against Daesh in Syria for war crimes.

During the war in Syria, the 35-year-old Kurdish man was photographed posing with the dead bodies of Daesh combatants, the news outlet Fria Tider reported.

In connection with the offensive, the man posed on four occasions in photographs and in a film in front of maimed and mutilated enemy corpses alongside his brothers in arms. The photographs and the film, which featured the soldiers putting their feet on the dead bodies, were later published on social media.

GOLDSTEIN: The skyrocketing costs of Canada’s grey tsunami

Canada is ill-prepared for the rapidly increasing costs of its grey tsunami as the baby boomers head into retirement, according to a new study by the fiscally conservative Fraser Institute.

“Canada’s Aging Population and Income Support Programs” by Steven Globerman says the price tags of two major taxpayer-funded federal benefit programs for seniors will increase by 70% within 10 years, rising from $60.8 billion annually today to $103.2 billion in 2030.

Pope Francis Calls for ‘No More Walls’ in Immigration Message

ROME — Pope Francis said Thursday the Church of today is called to “widen her tent to embrace everyone,” especially migrants and foreigners.

We are “called to work together so that there will be no more walls that separate us, no longer others, but only a single ‘we,’ encompassing all of humanity,” the pontiff said in his Message for the 2021 World Day of Migrants and Refugees, which will be celebrated next September 26.

Diane Francis: Trudeau is experimenting on his people — and the world is watching

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau may not be able to attend the G7 meeting in Britain in June, because he may not be eligible to receive his second shot until Aug. 28, due to Canada’s four-month dosage-delay policy. And it’s entirely the prime minister’s fault. This week, Ottawa doubled-down on its policy of treating the population like human guinea pigs by opening the door to mixing vaccines. This is playing jazz with Canadian lives.
