Why Canada is seen ‘as a very weak link’ in the global fight against crypto fraud — and what can be done to fix it

It was Mark Carney who convinced Marienelle Mariscal to invest in crypto. Or so she thought.

In April, when Mariscal was stuck in her Toronto home, unable to work while awaiting surgery, she stumbled across a video on social media that appeared to show the prime minister urging viewers to invest in cryptocurrency. Mariscal was intrigued.

“I was hoping that I can just get some money while I’m at home recuperating,” the 41-year-old said.

Putin vows no more wars if West treats Russia with respect

Shecky Putin! He’s here all week! Try the veal!

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has said there will be no more wars after Ukraine if Russia is treated with respect – and claims that Moscow is planning to attack European countries are “nonsense”.

In a marathon televised event lasting almost four and a half hours, he was asked by the BBC’s Steve Rosenberg whether there would be new “special military operations” – Putin’s term for the full-scale war.

“There won’t be any operations if you treat us with respect, if you respect our interests just as we’ve always tried to respect yours,” he asserted.

What the US wants from Canada on trade

With US-Canada trade talks still on hold, American officials have laid out their clearest demands yet for keeping free trade in place between the two countries.

The list includes further opening the Canadian dairy market to US farmers, and overhauling an online streaming law that the US says “discriminates” against American tech and media firms.

The US also wants Canadian provinces to lift their ban on selling American liquor, which was put in place earlier this year in response to the sweeping tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.

US judge blocks Michigan from shutting down Enbridge Line 5 pipeline

A US judge has blocked Michigan from enforcing a 2020 order that would have shut down Enbridge’s Line 5 oil pipeline, which runs beneath the Straits of Mackinac, the channel connecting Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.

Reuters reported that on Wednesday US District Judge Robert Jonker ruled that oversight of pipeline safety and the protection of the Straits is a federal responsibility, effectively preventing Michigan from shutting down the pipeline.

Chaplains Punished For Mentioning Jesus Cheer Hegseth’s Return To God-Focused Ministry

Retired Army Chaplain Brad Lewis (Col.-R) got emotional this week when he heard War Sec. Pete Hegseth’s order to return the Chaplain Corps to religious ministry. Hegseth said the Chaplain Corps role has been “degraded” in recent decades, and he gave the example of the 2025 “Army Spiritual Fitness Guide” that mentions “God” once, but “playfulness” nine times in 112 pages. Although most people in the military, 82 percent, are religious according to the guide, God has been nearly replaced by secular humanism. Hegseth eliminated the use of the guide this week and announced he is simplifying the faith coding system.

Terror now stalks Germany’s Christmas markets

Islamists are waging a low-level holy war against ordinary Germans and their traditions.

The ‘fact checkers’ have been busy in Germany. For weeks, they have been working overtime to dismiss claims about the slow death of the German Christmas market. ‘No, Christmas markets are not being cancelled en masse’, writes the fact-checking team at public broadcaster ZDF. Another ZDF article warns that ‘fake news about Christmas markets is going viral’. The message is clear: move along, nothing to see here.

What Really ‘Erases’ a Civilization

A section of the Trump administration’s recently released National Security Strategy titled “Promoting European Greatness” warns that Europe faces the “stark prospect of civilizational erasure,” making the continent “unrecognizable in 20 years or less.” It blames (among other issues like economic decline) transnational bodies like the European Union for undermining “political liberty and sovereignty, migration policies that are transforming the continent and creating strife, censorship of free speech and suppression of political opposition, cratering birthrates, and loss of national identities and self-confidence.”

In a UK Guardian piece last weekend called “The facts are stark: Europe must open the door to migrants, or face its own extinction,” columnist George Monbiot argued that, contrary to the White House view that European migration policies are “creating strife” and leading to “loss of national identities,” what will save European civilization from erasure is – wait for it – more mass immigration.

‘She was like a deer in headlights’: how unskilled radical birthkeepers took hold in Canada

In holistic communities and midwifery deserts, women are turning to the Free Birth Society for information and unlicensed providers

When the holistic practitioner Emma Cardinal, 32, became pregnant in May 2023, she planned to have a home birth with midwives. Cardinal lives in a town in British Columbia with strong counter-cultural roots. “The community that I live in, home birth is something a lot of women prioritise,” she explains.

Then Cardinal stumbled across a podcast from the Free Birth Society (FBS). One episode in particular, she says, made an impact: “Unpacking Ultrasound With Yolande Clark.” In it, the Canadian ex-doula Yolande Norris-Clark falsely links ultrasounds to autism and ADHD and states that “ultrasound damages and modifies and destroys cells”.

Australia Cancels Christmas Rather Than Cancel Muslim Riots

Sydney Australia Oct 8 2023

Do you know what the Jewish community in Australia (not to mention Canada, the UK and across Europe) have been asking for over and over again? Stop Muslim mobs from harassing and terrorizing Jewish schools, shops and communities.

Triangulation of Hate: Why Canada Is Choosing to Let Antisemitism Grow

Two weeks ago Carlos Portugal Gouvea, a visiting professor at Harvard Law School, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. The event went unnoticed in Canada and left barely a ripple in U.S. media. But two months prior Gouvea, a noted Brazilian gun-control activist and head of the University of São Paulo’s “diversity and inclusion committee”, had been observed wielding what looked like a rifle close by Temple Beth Zion, a synagogue in the Boston suburb of Brookline, during Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

After fleeing security guards, Gouvea was arrested with what turned out to be a pellet gun. He told local police he had been out “hunting rats”; one of his shots had shattered a car window. Within days, Gouvea was charged with four offences, his visa was revoked and a U.S. Department of Homeland Security official denounced “brazen, violent acts of anti-Semitism like this.” In November Gouvea struck a plea deal over his illegal use of the air rifle. Early this month he was re-arrested by ICE and, to avoid the humiliation of deportation, agreed to leave the U.S. “voluntarily”.

The fiscal case for mass migration is being demolished

Christmas without Muslim Bollards

Perhaps because it’s the week before Christmas, the Migration Advisory Committee’s (MAC) latest annual report has attracted little attention.

Many people can’t have read it, because it is full of incendiary details which demolish the case for mass migration.

The MAC is ‘an advisory non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Home Office’. It is not a political body, and its board is comprised of sober, sensible academics, who have set out to model ‘net fiscal impact’ – the costs, or benefits to the taxpayer of different kinds of migration. It’s worth noting that they do not seek to model second- or third-order costs of migration, such as housing costs, crime or long-term suppression of wages and birth rates.
