USCIS freezes immigration requests from 19 countries after National Guard shooting

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services decided to freeze pending immigration requests from 19 countries that the Trump administration deems “high risk” for national security reasons after an Afghan national critically shot two National Guard members in Washington, D.C., last week.

In a four-page memo issued Tuesday, the immigration and naturalization agency said all benefit applications filed by foreign nationals from 19 high-risk countries, including Afghanistan, are placed on hold until further notice. All asylum applications, regardless of the applicant’s country of nationality, are also paused indefinitely.

Affordable housing is out of reach everywhere in Canada

Sod Hut

The dream of home ownership is alive, but not well. According to a recent Abacus poll, nearly nine in 10 young Canadians, those aged 18 to 29, aspire to own a home – but a similar share worry about the current state of housing in Canada.

Of course, those worries are justified. According to our new study, in 2023 (the latest year of comparable data), typical homes on the market were unaffordable for families earning the local median income in every major Canadian city. It’s not just Vancouver and Toronto – housing affordability has eroded nationwide.

I trust our Corporate Titans to lead us out of this morass. Therefore the answer must include importing additional cheap foreign labour in their millions.

‘Welcome to America!’ Captured Drug Lords Choose: Snitch or Suffer

Under pressure from the Trump administration, Mexico turned over 55 cartel leaders in a pair of cloak-and-dagger missions

MEXICO CITY—Dozens of Mexico’s most dangerous prisoners, cuffed hand and foot, boarded army jets under heavy guard this year, a rogue’s gallery of cartel leaders responsible for smuggling tons of heroin, fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine to insatiable U.S. buyers.

The men were rousted from prisons, where money and corruption provided them with weapons, cocaine, booze, women and phones to run their lucrative underworld empires from behind bars, coordinating drug shipments as well as ordering killings and kidnappings, U.S. and Mexican officials said.

The prisoners had no idea of their destination.

Trump may use USMCA withdrawal as a bargaining tactic, trade experts warn

Canada needs to be prepared for the risk the United States may announce its withdrawal from the trilateral USMCA trade deal as a negotiating tactic, according to a legal expert who is testifying on the agreement at public hearings in Washington this week.

Barry Appleton, a Toronto lawyer who is co-director of the Center for International Law at New York Law School, is speaking before the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative Wednesday as part of a scheduled review of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

“The mere suggestion of USMCA termination serves as an exceedingly potent, almost extortionary, bargaining chip,” Mr. Appleton said.

Strangled, beaten and enslaved by my in-laws

Isolated and alone, Sara says she felt powerless when the husband she was forced to marry in Pakistan became abusive. She was 21.

“He used to light a lighter on my face to scare me, [he said] ‘I will burn you’,” she says.

She says his controlling behaviour got worse when she was brought to the UK, and moved in with his parents in 2022.

Instead of the happy married life promised by her family, she was then attacked by her husband and forced to work as a slave by her in-laws.

Burgergeld – Citizens Money or Welfare in Germany

Since 2015, at least €12.2 billion has been spent on the accommodation and care of unaccompanied minor asylum seekers in Germany, according to exclusive figures obtained by AfD Member of Parliament René Springer. WARMINGTON: Anti-Israel tropes OK at City Hall, but don’t dare show Canadian flag! Oh well we get to enjoy the ̷C̷h̷r̷i̷s̷t̷m̷a̷s̷ “Glittering Tree”

It’s feels like there’s a war on Canada and its traditions in Mayor Olivia Chow’s Toronto where the casualty is our basic freedom.

There is no other conclusion when you have a man harassed for displaying a Canadian flag, or playing the national anthem, while there is zero action from authorities on people presenting propaganda against Israel.

You know where Chow and her Muslim handlers can shove that glittering tree…

Chow has got to go…

Cross-dressing males can no longer join Girlguiding, organisation says

The organisation that oversees girl guide groups in the UK has announced it is banning trans girls from joining.

Girlguiding said the move – which means it will not accept biological boys who identify as girls – was in response to the Supreme Court ruling earlier this year that said sex meant biological sex in equality law.

The trustees said they had made the “difficult decision” with a “heavy heart” and there would be further announcements on what this will mean for current members.

Algoma Steel CEO: Feds knew about plans for layoffs before giving $400M loan

The head of Algoma Steel says the federal government and Government of Ontario knew the company’s business plan included a re-tooling of its Sault Ste. Marie plant that would result in layoffs before they agreed to half a billion dollars in loan assistance to help the company weather the storm of U.S. tariffs.

… Garcia explained to host Vassy Kapelos that cutting jobs at Algoma Steel was “always the future of this company.” Only 1,600 employees are required to operate electric furnaces that can produce 3.2 million tonnes of steel, compared to 3,000 employees operating blast furnaces that produce two million tonnes, he noted.

However, transformation timelines have sped up as a result of unprecedented tariffs imposed by the United States, which have effectively closed off the American market to Canadian steel.

Paganism is top choice for Christians who convert to new faith

Paganism is the most popular spiritual destination for British Christians who convert to another faith, outstripping Buddhism, Islam and Judaism, a study has found.

Religious faith is “fragmenting” in the UK as more than one in ten people who abandon Christianity in Britain take up paganism, wicca or another form of “spiritualism”, according to the report.

While Christianity is still gaining new adherents, these arrivals are outnumbered by people quitting the faith, figures showed. This is leading Christianity to dwindle in Britain overall, casting doubt on recent reports suggesting that a revival may be under way.

Mark Carney and Danielle Smith may be in for more hassle than they bargained for

Danielle Smith was flying high last Thursday as she and Mark Carney signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Calgary. Interesting that it was called an MOU and not an agreement, although most of the news media, and Smith herself, talked about it in those terms.

So now Carney and Smith have an “understanding” that an oil pipeline may be built from Alberta to the northwest coast of B.C. despite the oil tanker ban and B.C. premier David Eby’s objections; the industrial carbon price may go up in Alberta; and Alberta may get its multibillion Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage facility. That’s an awful lot of uncertainty given all the hype and hoopla surrounding the announcement.
