Geoff Russ: Canada desperately needs to find its ‘we’ again

The classical liberal John Stuart Mill once warned that “free institutions are next to impossible in a country made up of different nationalities.” He wrote that, without a “united public opinion,” representative government lacked the common sympathies and culture required for it to work properly. He added that even entities like the army would cease to identify with the people and become another branch of the state.

Liberty’s better theorists have always presumed a “we,” and Canada needs to find its “we” again.

There can be no “we” in a nation subjected to the abuse of it’s culture, values and heritage by the heinous immigration scam orchestrated by Canada’s so called “elites”.

A hateful vandal carrying a rainbow flag defaced at least three New York City churches with “anti-Christian” graffiti, according to cops still hunting the suspect.

The Pride flag-carrying suspect was also wearing a rainbow face covering when cameras caught them vandalizing the churches in Far Rockaway, Queens, in the early hours of Oct. 5, the NYPD said of the hate crime.

Inside the CIA’s secret mission to sabotage Afghanistan’s opium

In a decade-long covert operation, the U.S. spy agency dropped modified poppy seeds in an attempt to degrade the potency of Afghanistan’s billion-dollar opium crop.

In 20 years of grinding war in Afghanistan, the United States dropped a multitude of weapons from the skies: Millions of tons of ordnance. Hellfire missiles launched from Predator drones. Even the “Mother of All Bombs,” the most powerful nonnuclear bomb in existence. And, amid the more conventional projectiles, tiny poppy seeds. By the billions.

On and off for over a decade, the Central Intelligence Agency conducted an audacious highly classified program to covertly manipulate Afghanistan’s lucrative poppy crop, blanketing Afghan farmers’ fields with specially modified seeds that germinated plants containing almost none of the chemicals that are refined into heroin, The Washington Post has learned.

THOMSON: The CAF’s preposterous public servant army

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Jennie Carignan made headlines after it was reported that a new defence department directive is looking at how to mobilize Canada’s public servants as soldiers.

The directive, signed by the CDS back in May of this year, outlines how public servants at the provincial and federal level could potentially volunteer for the Supplementary Reserves (Supp Res) to help swell its ranks from the current level of 4,300 to 300,000.

CHARLEBOIS: Donald Trump’s beef with the packers — and Canada’s silence at the grill

Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that his administration was directing the Department of Justice to investigate major meat-packing companies for allegedly driving up beef prices through collusion and price manipulation. The move — unsurprisingly — generated headlines, applause from ranchers, and skepticism from economists. Still, it raises an uncomfortable question north of the border: why hasn’t Canada done the same?

‘Red-Handed’: Sean Duffy Yanking an Astonishing 17,000 Illegal Trucker’s Licenses in Gavin Newsom’s CA

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is cosplaying as president again, jetting off to Belém, Brazil, for the UN COP30 climate summit, where he signed a deal Tuesday with Nigeria to “fight pollution.” How that helps solve the homelessness, crime, and affordability crises in the Golden State is anyone’s guess, and one can’t help but wonder if his negotiations touched on the ongoing killing of Christians in the African country.

But what’s going on in his own state of California? Turns out the one-party cabal has been handing out commercial driver’s licenses to illegal aliens like they’re candy.

Creating a Youth Climate Corps could be Carney’s FDR moment … or not

Being raised in Canada taught me two enduring lessons: To care for the environment, and to contribute meaningfully to public life.

That’s why in 2023, when an unexpected call from the White House came in, I stepped forward. I was appointed by president Joe Biden, and within months began work on the historic American Climate Corps program.

In his first budget, Prime Minister Mark Carney has proposed a similar climate corps for Canada – a bold, consequential, nation-building program with deep roots and a rich legacy dating back nearly 100 years. This is exactly the kind of generational investment that young people need.

Sounds like a job application.

How the BBC Tried to Burn Trump — and Barbecued Itself Instead

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) once fancied itself the gold standard of journalism — the global voice of calm reason in a noisy world. “Nation shall speak peace unto nation,” its motto declared. But these days, it seems the BBC prefers to funnel deceit into living rooms. What was once a proud symbol of objectivity has morphed into a state-funded sermon of sanctimony, dripping with bias, and dressed up as “public service.”

Sub CBC same same different.

The NYPD Prepares for a Mamdani Mayoralty

The New York City Police Department has to be feeling cursed these days. Having barely recovered from the dark years of Bill de Blasio and still emerging from the chaos of the Eric Adams era, the NYPD now faces the daunting prospect of reporting to democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani. But don’t bet against the men and women in blue. They are remarkably resilient—and they may have a secret weapon in their experienced and savvy commissioner, Jessica Tisch.

Pierre Poilievre’s popularity is unprecedented. But is his future as Conservative leader safe?

What happens when a political leader is both deeply admired and deeply disliked? As Parliament breaks for the week, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre and his team may get a brief pause from the daily political grind, but the core of his public image is already well defined. He inspires intense loyalty among his supporters and equally intense opposition from his critics. It’s a divide that’s become impossible to ignore in the past week.
