CAS workers failed to record important info, missed red flags before boy’s death, Ontario murder trial told

Halton Children’s Aid Society (CAS) workers failed to document important information and didn’t investigate red flags related to the condition of two boys in a Burlington, Ont., couple’s care, a defence lawyer told the women’s murder trial.

Nabeel Sheiban cross-examined retired child protection worker Lisa Potts on Friday, asking about various notes recorded by adoption workers and their correspondence with Becky Hamber, his client, and Brandy Cooney.

In one message read by Sheiban, Hamber said the older boy was “unhealthy” and had an eating disorder.

An event at the University of California, Berkeley, on Monday evening marked the chaotic last stop of the American Comeback tour, which Kirk had just begun at the time of his death at Utah Valley University. In the aftermath of Kirk’s fatal shooting, the events have come to serve as memorials, with prominent conservative speakers, including JD Vance, highlighting the staggering impact the controversial rightwing influencer’s death has had on American politics.

Senate Passes Bill to Reopen Government Amid Democratic Rift

The Senate passed legislation on Monday night to end the nation’s longest government shutdown, after a critical splinter group of Democrats joined with Republicans and backed a spending package that omitted the chief concession their party had spent weeks demanding.

The 60-to-40 vote, on Day 41 of the shutdown, signaled a break in the gridlock that has shuttered the government for weeks, leaving hundreds of thousands of federal workers furloughed, millions of Americans at risk of losing food assistance and millions more facing air-travel disruptions.

The measure goes next to the House, which is expected to take it up no sooner than Wednesday and where the small Republican margin of control and intense Democratic opposition could make for a close vote. President Trump has indicated that he will sign it.

Anti-Jewish hate in Toronto reaching breaking point, advocate says

Toronto’s institutional tolerance of anti-Israel activism is putting the city’s Jewish population at risk, according to a prominent international advocate.

And it’s just a matter of time before somebody loses their life in this wave of hatred, said Aviva Klompas, founder and CEO of pro-Israel think tank Boundless.

“If any other house of worship was vandalized 10 times, it would be a national emergency — it would be front-page news, and the question that every Canadian, every person of conscience should be asking is why isn’t anyone doing anything to stop it?”

No. Over 100 churches have been burned or otherwise vandalized and barely a finger was lifted by law enforcement or our politicians instead they doubled down on the fake graves lie.

Hamas Presence in Europe Reveals Open Borders “Disaster”

European citizens keep on learning about more and more Hamas affiliates living in their own towns and cities. And who knows how many others are going unnoticed?

Dutch media reported on Monday morning on the appearance of “a Gazan who cheered on the October 7th attacks in Israel” at a pro-Palestine sit-in at Amsterdam Central Station. De Telegraaf notes that while Mohaned al-Khatib, the Gazan in question, “describes himself as a journalist … in his comments, however, he openly reveals himself to be a Hamas supporter. He is pictured arm in arm with then-Hamas leader Ismael Haniyeh.”
