The Nord Stream Investigation That’s Splintering Europe Over Ukraine

BERLIN—For three years, a crack team of detectives gathered each weekday morning around a whiteboard at the German Federal Police headquarters in Potsdam, near Berlin. Now their investigation into who was behind the greatest act of sabotage in modern history—the bombing of the Nord Stream pipelines—is threatening to splinter support for Ukraine, the country they hold responsible.

Poland already has refused to extradite one of the suspects to stand trial in Germany. It instead views him a hero for destroying a vital source of revenue for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war machine. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who has long questioned Germany’s dependence on Russian energy, ridiculed the investigation. The problem isn’t that the pipeline was blown up, he said. The “problem is that it was built.”

Liat Schwartz: It was unreal as anti-Israel protesters attacked our off campus event

Nov. 5 is a day Jewish students at Toronto Metropolitan University will never forget. What should have been a peaceful evening of dialogue became a night of fear, violence, and betrayal. For many of us, it was the night our trust, in our peers, in our university, and in the idea of equal rights on campus, was shattered.

Diversity and multiculturalism mean violence when Islam is involved.

Transgender women to be banned from all female Olympic events

That’s a man!

The International Olympic Committee is set to announce a ban on transgender women in female competition early next year after a science-based review of evidence about permanent physical advantages of being born male.

The IOC’s guidance to Olympic sports has until now been that transgender women can compete with reduced testosterone levels but leaves it up to individual sports to decide. That is now set to change under its new president, Kirsty Coventry, who has promised to protect the female category.

Trump threatens BBC with 1 Billion dollar lawsuit over faked documentary

Donald Trump has threatened legal action against the BBC and welcomed the resignations of two of its most senior figures after a campaign against the broadcaster that reached fever pitch over criticism that its flagship documentary programme in 2024 used a misleading edit of a Trump speech.

Lawyers for the US president said that the BBC must retract the Panorama documentary by Friday or face a lawsuit for “no less” than $1bn (£760m), according to US media outlets who cited the letter. The BBC has confirmed it had received a letter and said it will respond in due course.

Mark Carney is flooding the zone. This is what he could be trying to distract us from

MAGA strategist Stephen K. Bannon calls it “flooding the zone.” U.S. President Donald Trump demonstrated it in his first weeks back in office, when he introduced over 100 Executive Orders. Regardless of their legal viability, the sheer volume of policy changes is the point. It is a political strategy to overwhelm institutions, courts and social groups, preventing effective opposition.

In Canada, we are witnessing our own version of “flooding the zone” from new Prime Minister Mark Carney, in coordination with provincial and territorial premiers.

The Star is harsh.

Ukrainian Corruption Watchdog Says ‘Large-Scale Operation’ In Energy Sector Under Way

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) said it is conducting a “large-scale operation” jointly with the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office to expose corruption involving “a high-level criminal organization” in the energy sector.

NABU said in a post on social media on November 10 that the investigation has been ongoing for 15 months with some 1,000 hours of audio recordings gathered. It added that the “activities of a high-level criminal organization have been documented,” with members having built “a large-scale corruption scheme to influence strategic enterprises in the public sector, in particular JSC ‘Energoatom.'”

All wars breed corruption. But when your young men flee the country rather than enlist to defend their nation you have to wonder at the reasons why.

Barging into office, yelling from Conservative leadership ‘sealed the deal’ on defection: d’Entremont

Nova Scotia MP Chris d’Entremont says the barging into his office and yelling from Conservative Party leadership “sealed the deal” on his choice to cross the floor of the House of Commons to the Liberals this week.

After d’Entremont’s musings over a possible defection were reported by Politico on Tuesday, the MP says Conservative House leader Andrew Scheer and party whip Chris Warkentin “barged” into his office, pushed open the door — almost knocking down his assistant — and yelled at him about “how much of a snake” he was.

Some dare call it bullshit.

US Senate passes deal aimed at ending longest ever government shutdown

A deal aimed at ending the US government shutdown has passed the Senate, paving the way for the record-breaking impasse to be broken.

After a weekend of negotiations in Washington, a minority of Democrats joined with Republicans and voted in favour of an agreement.

The vote is a procedural first step towards passing a compromise to fund the government since it ran out of money 1 October.

Canadian military will rely on an army of public servants to boost its ranks by 300,000

The Canadian Forces is counting on public servants to volunteer for military service as it tries to ramp up an army of 300,000 as part of a mobilization plan, according to a defence department directive.

Federal and provincial employees would be given a one-week training course in how to handle firearms, drive trucks and fly drones, according to the directive, signed by Chief of the Defence Staff Gen. Jennie Carignan and defence deputy minister Stefanie Beck on May 30, 2025.

DND expansion plans are wildly unrealistic

Have the senior leaders of the Canadian military lost all connection to reality?

Their unpublicized plan to increase Canada’s military reserves to 400,000 people, as reported by the Citizen’s David Pugliese , is wildly out of synch with their own organization’s recruitment capabilities, the attraction of serving in the armed forces, and the country’s needs.

Elon Musk’s AI Grokipedia takes on ‘Wokipedia’

Elon Musk has taken a keen interest in his Wikipedia page over the years. So have the site’s editors: 4,221 of them have made more than 17,000 changes to his page since 2008.

The billionaire tweeted in 2019: “My wiki is a war zone with a zillion edits. At least it’s obviously not curated! Some day, I should probably write what my fictionalised version of reality is.”

‘Things are crumbling’: changing caucus landscape, external pressures spell bad news for Poilievre’s leadership review, say Conservatives

With one MP already gone to the Liberals, another one resigning, and more rumoured to be leaving the Conservative fold, the rapidly shifting political landscape ahead of Pierre Poilievre’s upcoming leadership review would weaken his position in a vote he was once expected to win with more than 80 per cent support, say Conservative MPs and former senior Conservatives.

“Things are crumbling,” said a senior Conservative in a not-for-attribution interview with The Hill Times. “It will be very hard for him to hang on. We’ll see.”

I think this is more media hype than substance.
