‘Our enemy now is Canada’ Alan Dershowitz says on Israel policy

NEW YORK – Alan Dershowitz, the prominent American lawyer, had a blunt assessment about Canada and the Carney government at a recent pro-Israel gathering in New York.

“We have to understand who our enemies are. And our enemy now is Canada,” he told the Post, at the second annual Rage Against Hate conference, Oct. 27, at Manhattan’s Museum of Jewish Heritage.

Trump directs Pentagon to test nuclear weapons for first time since 1992

GYEONGJU, South Korea — President Donald Trump on Thursday morning said he directed the Pentagon to begin testing nuclear weapons “on an equal basis” with Russia and China, an apparent attempt to flex the United States’ military might ahead of a high-stakes trade meeting here with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.

Trump’s announcement on Truth Social signaled a reversal of decades of United States nuclear policy that could have far-reaching consequences for relations with U.S. adversaries, though his post included very few details about what the tests would entail. The last nuclear weapon test in the United States was held in 1992, before President George H.W. Bush implemented a moratorium on such exercises at the conclusion of the Cold War.

Trump wrote that the process would begin immediately and was in response to other countries’ testing programs.

Carney to waste $660 million on gender equality programs

OTTAWA — A new federal promise to spend more than $660 million on gender equality and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities — unveiled to great fanfare on Wednesday — still leaves a steep projected drop in funding in the coming years, as the Carney government previews “tough choices” ahead of its first budget next week.

At the same time, the government house leader said Wednesday that discussions continue with opposition parties, but it remains unclear how Prime Minister Mark Carney will pass the annual spending plan and avoid plunging Canada into its second federal election in less than a year.

‘My hopes are dashed’: Illegal Indian migrants deported by US speak to BBC

Several illegal Indian migrant workers who were recently deported from the US have recounted their ordeal to BBC Punjabi, describing humiliation, debt and shattered dreams.

At least 54 men, who had entered the US through the “donkey route” – often used by traffickers to facilitate illegal crossings – landed in the country’s capital Delhi on Sunday.

Aged between 25 and 40 years, all of them are from the northern state of Haryana and have since returned home, police said. The Indian government has not commented on their deportation.

We need a Trump.

Jesse Kline: Carney proves he wasn’t the man to take on Trump, after all

The latest spat between Prime Minister Mark Carney and U.S. President Donald Trump gives the impression that North America is being run by schoolchildren.

Trump often strikes me as an older, more powerful version of my kids. Like them, he has a habit of making things up and confidently stating them as fact; he’s prone to emotional outbursts whenever he doesn’t get his way; and he thinks he’s the best at just about everything.

Southport killer showed ‘leftwing extremist behaviour’

The Southport killer displayed “leftwing extremist behaviour” and questioned why the public had a “really bad vision of the Taliban”, the inquiry into his crimes has heard.

A social worker assessing Axel Rudakubana recorded “concerns in relation to Axel’s extreme thoughts around what’s going on in the world and politics” three years before his attack on a Taylor Swift dance class in July 2024, but did not share them with counter-terrorism police.

Billion-dollar government deals with Stellantis, NextStar for EV battery plant revealed

Confidential government deals worth billions of dollars to help fund a Stellantis-backed electric vehicle battery plant in Windsor, Ont., carry dozens of conditions that, if violated, give federal officials the power to end the agreements and even force repayment in some cases, according to copies obtained by CBC Windsor.

It is unclear, however, if the contracts contain guarantees related to the company’s broader footprint in Canada, as elected officials have claimed. Some portions of the documents are redacted, so the full terms of the agreements are unknown.

Stellantis exec sidesteps questions on whether gov’t deals included jobs guarantees

A Stellantis executive was grilled by MPs Wednesday over whether blockbuster subsidy deals reached with the federal government in recent years included guarantees to maintain Canadian auto jobs — as government officials have repeatedly said.

Speaking to a House of Commons committee, the former president for Stellantis Canada, Jeff Hines, sought to underscore the company’s commitment to the Canadian auto sector, but would not directly address whether protections for existing positions had been inked in past deals.
