It’s the time of year to unwind.

 

Start one’s party with some festive mocktails:

 

Christmas Mimosa (as seen above)

  • 2 parts non alcoholic sparkling wine or alternative
  • 1 part cranberry juice
  • 1 rosemary sprig or cranberries to garnish optional
  • Pour 2 parts wine and 1 part cranberry juice into a champagne flute and garnish with rosemary and/or cranberries. Serve immediately. If you don’t drink alcohol free wine, it can easily be replaced with soda water, kombucha or ginger beer.

Christmas Punch

  • 6 cups cranberry juice or pomegranate cranberry juice*
  • 3 cups pineapple juice**
  • 1 Tbsp almond extract
  • liters ginger ale
  • 1 (12 oz.) bag fresh cranberries (optional)
  • 2 fresh limes, sliced (optional)
  • Ice
  • Pour cranberry juice, pineapple juice, and almond extract into a large drink dispenser and mix. Pour in ginger ale and give it one quick stir.
  • Add in cranberries, ice and ginger ale. Serve within a few hours for best results as it will start to go flat.

 

If one would prefer to partake:

White Christmas Mojito

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup of lime juice
  • 1/4 cup of packed mint leaves, plus more for garnish
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
    1/2 cup of white rum
  • 1/2 cup of coconut rum
  • 1 cup of canned coconut milk
  • sparkling water
  • pomegranate arils

Instructions:

  1. In a larger pitcher, muddle the mint leaves in the sugar and lime juice.
  2. Using a strainer, remove the muddled mint leaves (optional).
  3. Fill four glasses halfway full with ice and fill 3/4 full with coconut rum mixture.
  4. Top off each glass with sparkling water. Garnish with mint leaves and pomegranate arils and enjoy!

Outrage at WHO’s call to prevent ‘child-bearing age’ women from drinking

The controversial advice was laid out in WHO’s draft of its Global Alcohol Action Plan 2022-2030, which urges countries to raise awareness among the public about the risks and harms associated with alcohol consumption, with particular focus on how children are impacted when exposed to alcohol while still in the womb.

In order to lessen these impacts, the organisation suggests preventing not only pregnant women from drinking alcohol, but any woman of “child-bearing age”.

Now may be a good opportunity for the federal government to take legislative action in the form of a federal alcohol act to address heavy drinking. This is legislation which could enshrine a harm reduction approach to alcohol that addresses outstanding issues related to advertising and labelling, access to alcohol, the affordability of the product and more.

Thugs will be fitted with ‘sobriety tags’ to monitor when they drink alcohol… and they could be JAILED for breaching abstinence order under new scheme

Electronic ankle tags that can monitor whether offenders have drunk alcohol are to be rolled out in England after a successful pilot scheme.

The ‘sobriety tags’ will be one of the measures courts can impose on criminals convicted of booze-related offences, such as street violence.

The device takes a sample of sweat every 30 minutes and alerts the probation service if alcohol is detected.

Offenders will then face further sentences, including jail time, if they are caught breaching an abstinence order imposed by a court.
