In the 1970s, O.J. Simpson and Bruce Jenner were at the pinnacle of American sports. Simpson was an extraordinary running back and Jenner was the Olympic decathlon winner. Since then, O.J. Simpson probably murdered Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, while Bruce Jenner turned out to believe he’s a woman named Caitlyn. Neither of them is a person to whom one should look for rational thinking. Nevertheless, 2021 is such an utterly insane year, completely eclipsing the insanity of 2020, that both men have come out with common-sense statements in the past two weeks.

At the height of the riots in Portland over the past several months, the actual mayor of the city had to flee his home. Riots made it too dangerous for him and his neighbors.

Rick Wilson, cofounder of the Lincoln Project, has spent enough time around politicians and lawyers to be well-versed in the art of the straw man deflection, the non-denial denial, and the carefully worded bluster of righteous indignation.

Wilson skillfully deployed all of these familiar tactics Tuesday evening in what was teasingly billed as an “exclusive response” to the allegations of predatory sexual behavior against Lincoln Project cofounder John Weaver, who is no longer affiliated with the Democratic-aligned Super PAC. In the words of Lincoln Project TV host Tara Setmayer: “It’s going to be 🔥🔥. Don’t miss it!”
