Farmers Take Over London: Tractors Roll in Protest Against Tax Changes

Hundreds of farmers rallied in central London on Wednesday, voicing their opposition to Labour’s planned changes to inheritance tax, which threaten the survival of family farms. A convoy of tractors, many adorned with Union flags and placards reading “No farmers, no food” and “Save British Farming,” filled the streets around Parliament Square in a loud and defiant demonstration.

The protest, organised by Kent Fairness for Farmers and Save British Farming, highlighted widespread discontent with the policy, which imposes a 20% inheritance tax on agricultural assets valued over £1 million starting in 2026. Farmers claim the tax burdens an industry already struggling with slim margins and rising costs.

Canadian Government to Match Donations to Pakistan

I don’t remember agreeing to this:

The federal government will match donations from Canadians to help the people of Pakistan, where a humanitarian emergency has been caused by massive flooding.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says donations made to one of the 12 aid agencies that make up the Humanitarian Coalition will be matched until Sept. 28, to a maximum of $3 million.

Emergency food, water, sanitation and health services are badly needed after monsoon rains over the last three months have left more than one-third of the country underwater.

More than 33 million people are affected by the floods and with much of the country’s agricultural land underwater, the Pakistani government is warning of an impending food shortage.

Canada will send another $25 million to Pakistan to respond to the flooding and support development projects.

International Development Minister Harjit Sajjan is in Pakistan now witnessing the devastation.

Tax the rich: Canada imposes new levy on luxury cars, yachts and private jets

Calls to ‘tax the rich’ often fall on deaf ears – but Canada appears to be listening. The country is set to impose a new ‘luxury tax’ on the sale and importation of high-value cars, planes and boats.

Coming into effect on 1 September 2022, the Select Luxury Items Tax Act is billed as part of the Government of Canada’s commitment to a fairer tax system.

Biden’s ‘Inflation Reduction Act 2022’ raises taxes on most Americans

U.S. President Joe Biden claimed on Sunday that the “Inflation Reduction Act of 2022” will not raise taxes on anyone earning less than $400,000 a year, but reports show that claim to be false.

“The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 will lower health care costs for millions of Americans,” wrote Biden on Twitter. “And, for the first time in a long time, make the largest corporations pay their fair share without any new taxes on people making under $400,000 a year.”

That claim is false, as exposed by the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT), which showed that under the plan, taxes will increase in 2023 for everyone except those earning between $10,000 and $30,000 per year.

The Liberals’ ‘Truck Tax’ Represents The Worst Kind of Class Warfare

The Trudeau regime’s proposed taxing of new pickup trucks in Canada has to be called out more often for what it is: obviously mean-spirited, and a form of targeted class warfare against blue-collar workers.

This type of tax already exists on the purchase of larger “fuel-inefficient” SUVs, but also extends to people carrier/work vehicles like vans and station wagons. The earlier SUV/people carrier tax is mean-spirited in its own regard and should be abolished, however, this prior law did not apply to the purchase of new pick-up trucks.

Until now.

This latest proposed tax is a step into total lunacy, and amounts to an attack on the concept of working for a living (although it’s not that surprising to find this coming from the Trudeau regime.

Poilievre calls on Freeland to slash gas taxes ahead of summer driving season

Conservative leadership candidate Pierre Poilievre is calling on the federal Liberal government to scrap taxes on gasoline temporarily as Canadians grapple with eye-popping fuel prices ahead of the busy summer driving season.

With the price of almost everything spiking due to a 30-year high in inflation, the cost of living has become the top political issue in Canada.

Federal budget bill’s luxury tax will hurt manufacturing and cost jobs, aerospace, boating sectors warn Liberals

Called the Select Luxury Items Tax Act, the new legislation is part of the 440-page budget bill, which is being studied by the House of Commons finance committee. Parliament is likely to pass the bill before rising for summer in June, but it is possible it could be amended based on the feedback from policy experts.

Ottawa looking at a wealth tax to pay for soaring spending

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been eyeing a wealth tax to pay for his government’s spending spree. Heavily redacted documents obtained by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation under an access to information request show the prime minister asked for analysis of a $60-billion wealth tax. With deficits looming to the far horizon, it must be a tempting cash grab.

G20 leaders endorse global minimum corporate tax deal for 2023 start

Leaders of the world’s 20 biggest economies (G20) will endorse an OECD deal on a global minimum corporate tax of 15%, draft conclusions of the two-day G20 summit showed on Saturday, with a view to have the rules in force in 2023.

“We call on the OECD/G20 Inclusive Framework on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting to swiftly develop the model rules and multilateral instruments as agreed in the Detailed Implementation Plan, with a view to ensure that the new rules will come into effect at global level in 2023,” the draft conclusions, seen by Reuters, said.

The conclusions are to be formally adopted on Sunday.
