BRICS Announces Plan To Form Parliament

New assembly would lead bloc’s de-dollarization efforts and bolster its global influence.

The BRICS group of nations is continuing its development into a geopolitical world power. On Thursday, the bloc announced its plans to create its own parliament to oversee the alliance and its initiatives.

BRICS, originally founded in 2006 as a group for investment strategies for emerging nations by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, has since expanded and now includes South Africa and—since January 2024—Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates. An additional 40 nations have expressed interest in becoming members, including Serbia and Turkey. Over 20 countries have formally applied for membership.

In a garish example of anti-democratic, anti-West, collective state hypocrisy, leaders from the BRICS bloc — representing Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa — meeting in South Africa over three days last week invited four Muslim states and two others to join the bloc, while keeping total silence over the racist and Islamist massacre by heavily armed Arab militias of black African civilians being carried out in West Darfur in Sudan over the preceding weeks.

Global news sources were clear about the racist character of the massacre, which resulted in black African survivors flooding across the border for refuge in neighbouring Chad.

The No-Dollar BRICS Future

There is no doubt anymore. The BRICS countries are working hard to dethrone the dollar.

So far, the BRICS summit has mostly been a vast political stunt show, not unlike other meetings where international political figures shake hands and rub elbows. However, that should not lead anyone to believe that BRICS is not moving forward as a credible economic sphere with gradually growing independence of Europe and North America.

On the contrary, all signs point to a continuation of de-dollarization initiatives that began more than a decade ago. These initiatives are paying off, with the BRICS group growing in popularity. According to Al Jazeera, there are some 40 countries aspiring to join the group,
