Pope Francis: ‘No Country Can Exempt Itself’ from Duty to Take in Migrants

ROME — Pope Francis appeared to take a shot at Hungary on Wednesday, insisting “no country can exempt itself” from the obligation to take in migrants.

On Tuesday, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán rejected a ruling by the European Union’s (EU) Court of Justice that his government had “failed to fulfil its obligations” to relax its immigration laws.

Canada’s Supreme Court to hear appeal of U.S. asylum seeker pact that prevents our borders being overrun by asylum shoppers

TORONTO, Dec 16 (Reuters) – Canada’s Supreme Court said on Thursday it will hear an appeal seeking to overturn a pact with the United States under which Canada turns back asylum-seekers at land border crossings coming from the United States.

As a result, refugee advocates will have a chance to make their case against the Canada-U.S. Safe Third Country Agreement in Canada’s highest court.

Under the agreement, signed in 2002, asylum-seekers presenting at U.S.-Canada border crossings are turned back and told to apply for refugee status in the first country in which they arrived.

‘F*** Your Mothers, Racist F***s!‘ – Migrants Attack Polish Border Guards

The Polish government has released more footage of illegal migrants trying to cross the frontier from Belarus, hurling objects and insults at border guards.

Thousands of mostly Middle Eastern and South Asian migrants have been pressing upon the borders of Poland and the neighbouring Baltic States of Lithuania and Latvia — all members of the European Union and NATO — for months, having been allowed into Alexander Lukashenko’s Belarus as tourists with the express purpose of having them head west as migrants to destabilise the EU.

The Necessity of Walls, Barriers, and Borders

The first time I met Jordan Peterson, we disagreed. He had just delivered a brilliant talk for the Society for Academic Freedom and Scholarship (SAFS), treating in part of the pros and cons of Liberal and Conservative political philosophy. Where we disagreed involved what he considered the pejorative side of Conservatism. Peterson argued that Conservative thinking and practice were a noble endeavor, but regrettably focused on the concept of walls, a kind of insularity that tended to exclude much that was regarded as disruptive or troubling to a sense of unanimity and epistemological coherence; indeed, such novel intrusions were likely to be regarded as a species of “disease.” There could be something closed-minded about Conservative principles, a rejection of the strange, the innovative, the foreign, and the revitalizing effect of infusions from elsewhere.

‘Imagine’ all those people …

Indifference or active opposition to effective border control, without which a nation ceases to exist, is an attitude of destructive national self-loathing.

“… However, this is emphatically not the same story as in the past. This is not merely a matter of immigration or political persecution as understood by the international convention on refugees. The numbers wanting to move, and with potentially many more millions behind them, are on an unprecedented scale. Left unchecked, this would entail two baleful consequences for countries admitting such a tide.

The first is practical, in that the social infrastructure of housing and public services would become overwhelmed. The second, more explosive consequence is that such numbers would change the ethnic and cultural character of the nation—without the public ever having been consulted.”

Why young Kurds are migrating to Europe – This is a crisis built on aspiration, not desperation

Why have so many Iraqi Kurds made the journey to both the Poland-Belarus border and the English Channel? The situation of 2021 should not be confused with 2015. It is not mere desperation that motivates these journeys — aspiration, and the chance to embarrass a resented political order have played a part as well.

Why If Poland Falls, We All Fall

Its border crisis is much more than a migration problem.

The Left and the Social Democrats in both Europe and America have one thing in common: they know nothing of human nature. You know: Everyone is good. All criminals can be reintegrated. All borders are bad. And every multicultural melting pot is enriching.

But there’s a problem: It’s not true. Not all cultures are equal. Nor is everyone good. Which is why we need locks on our cars and houses, passwords on bank accounts, and border controls around our lands. Even if the contemporary Left believes that the only threat to their brave new world is capitalism and my huge diesel car, the truth is that there are, for example, a lot of guys who wake up every day intent on killing as many Westerners as they can in the name of Allah, in New York, in Madrid, in Paris, or this past Sunday in Liverpool. And unfortunately, they are much more fervent believers in their Islamist madness than most of our leaders in their own moral heritage.

Poland says Belarus ferries migrants back to border after clearing camps

BIELSK PODLASKI, Poland/BRUZGI, Belarus, Nov 19 (Reuters) – Poland accused Belarus on Friday of trucking hundreds of migrants back to the border and pushing them to attempt to cross illegally, only hours after clearing camps at a frontier that has become the focus of an escalating East-West crisis.

The accusation by Poland suggests the crisis has not been resolved by an apparent change of tack by Minsk, which on Thursday had cleared the main camps by the border and allowed the first repatriation flight to Iraq in months.

Spain: Migration Crisis Spirals Out of Control

Prosecutors in Spain have charged a dozen North African migrants with sedition for illegally entering the country by forcing a commercial airliner to land on Spanish territory.

The plot, months in the making and unmatched in audacity, has demonstrated that commandeering airliners is a cheaper and safer way to reach Europe than paying people-smugglers thousands of euros for perilous sea crossings.

Spanish authorities, notorious for closing a blind eye to illegal immigration from North Africa, fear that the plot has set a precedent that will be repeated, not only in Spain but at other airports in Europe.
