Dunkin’ coming back to Canada, following deal with Foodtastic

In a country dominated by Tim Hortons, will anyone run to Dunkin’? Montreal-based restaurant operator Foodtastic thinks so, and plans to bring hundreds of the doughnut shops to Canada as early as this year.

The company said Tuesday it has signed a master franchising agreement with Inspire Brands to bring one of America’s largest coffee chains back to Canada.

Bryan Brulotte: Europe wants our energy. Ottawa must act now

In a 2022 news conference, former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said there wasn’t a clear business case for building liquified natural gas (LNG) terminals to export to Europe. This past week, Mark Carney suggested in a media interview that the first thing European authorities are interested in when they sit down with Canada is not our energy. He went on to say that energy is something Canada raises as being part of the solution in respect to nuclear and LNG.

Carney will talk big but nothing will get done.

The census seemed designed to determine if you were a bilingual transgender

Some Canadians protest census, express privacy concerns

As some Canadians claim that the federal government’s national census violates their privacy, a Liberal member of Parliament is calling on them to fill out their 2026 census forms for the good of their communities.

Canadians have been asked to fill out the census form by May 12, though Statistics Canada says that’s a “reference date” rather than a deadline.

It’s like they’re on the hunt for the demographics needed to justify the expense of programs serving Swahili Speaking Transgender Geriatrics.

Trump goes and a Democrat occupies the White House? Carney still leads, poll says

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Many Canadians and Americans have at least one thing in common: They’d like to see someone other than Donald Trump in the White House.

In the United States, this bias largely falls along partisan lines, but in Canada, resentment over the president’s “51st state” rhetoric and punishing trade tariffs is held by a majority of people. Polls show that majorities of Conservative, Liberal, and NDP supporters disapprove of Trump’s leadership and are critical of how he has treated Canada.

LILLEY: We shouldn’t let underage non-citizens vote in party nominations

Can we talk about the crazy way that we let our political parties select their candidates and leaders.

Over the weekend, the Ontario Liberal Party held a nomination race to select their candidate for the upcoming provincial byelection in Scarborough Southwest. Ahsanul Hafiz took 718 votes on the third ballot to defeat current Liberal MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, who received 699 votes.

Canada gave citizenship to a terrorist. Revoking it has been ‘ridiculously’ slow

On May 31, 2001, a former Pakistan army captain named Tahawwur Hussain Rana swore the oath of citizenship in front of an Ottawa judge, who anointed him a Canadian.

But he is a fraudulent Canadian, according to hundreds of pages of government documents obtained by Global News that allege he obtained his citizenship through “deception.”

The documents show that an RCMP investigation uncovered considerable evidence that Rana lied on his citizen application form by claiming he resided in Canada, when he did not.

Canada’s Conservative Movement Is Alive and Well

Canada’s Conservative Movement Is Alive and Well

This week in Ottawa, hundreds of Canadians gathered at the Canada Strong and Free Network conference to debate ideas, challenge assumptions, and discuss the future of the country. Contrary to the narrative often advanced by parts of the media and political establishment, the conservative movement in Canada is not fractured, exhausted, or retreating. It is alive, serious, intellectually engaged, and increasingly focused on the central question facing this country: how do we restore Canadian performance?

Not sure I entirely agree, but hey it’s Monday.

Canada Fines an 85-Year-Old Hockey Scout for Being Old-Fashioned

Terry Bonner, the Vancouver Giants’ 85-year-old scout, stepped onto the Western Hockey League’s Prospects Draft stream and did what older men sometimes do. He wandered a little, praised Vancouver’s selection of Eli Vickers with the third overall pick, then thanked Cami Kepke, the WHL’s community engagement and content manager, and told her something that’s become something of a lost art.

Baltic, Nordic officials urge Canadians to learn from the Russian threats they face

OTTAWA — European officials are warning that Russia’s meddling in the Baltic Sea is likely a preview of tactics Moscow could someday deploy in Canada’s High North.

A recent panel discussion in Ottawa hosted by the Polish embassy touched on how Estonia, Poland and Nordic countries like Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark are responding to Russian threats that emerge from the sky, sea and online.

Polish Ambassador Witold Dzielski gave the example of an explosion last November on a rail line used to transport military goods to Ukraine, which his government suspects was orchestrated by Russia.

Keystone XL Rebranded as “Keystone Light” in Trump’s Push for North American Energy Security

The project’s goal was to expand the pipeline system’s capacity by allowing the transport of up to 830,000 barrels of oil per day over a distance of approximately 1,210 miles. The aim was to provide a more direct route for Canadian oil, and provisions were included for adding American-produced oil from the Bakken formation in Montana and North Dakota.

The last time we reported on this Keystone XL, President Donald Trump was promising to revive the project “on day one.”

HANNAFORD: Trump’s energy revolution leaves Carney in the dust

President Trump has largely succeeded in repositioning the Americas as the new centre of world energy markets. Canada – particularly Alberta and Saskatchewan, with the world’s third-largest oil reserves and stable oil-sands production – is exceptionally well placed to benefit, provided Canadian policy stops fighting the continental reality and starts leveraging it.

Ants can be a nuisance. Just ask officials at a hospital in Canada who are dealing with an “appearance of ants within the operating room” that has forced them to indefinitely suspend some surgeries there.

The ants appeared recently at Carman Memorial Hospital in Carman Manitoba, according to a statement from Southern Health-Santé Sud, the provincial authority that oversees the hospital.

Ford Motor to receive $464M from feds to pivot to F-series production at Oakville plant after EV plans scrapped

The federal government is giving Ford Motor Co. $464.5 million toward retooling its idled Oakville assembly plant to produce heavy-duty F-series gas and diesel-powered trucks.

The funding — mentioned in a federal database for grants and contributions — comes as the Dearborn, Mich.-based auto manufacturer revealed it has increased its own spending on the retooling to $5 billion from $1.8 billion.

The database says the funding agreement, which took effect March 30, runs until 2038.

Trump is determined to bring all assembly home. Will Ford take the money and run?
