
MONTREAL — A Montreal-area Liberal candidate invited to a campaign event this week the head of two organizations suspected by the RCMP of operating a secret Chinese police station.
The invitation by Alexandra Mendès, the Liberal incumbent running for re-election in Brossard—Saint-Lambert, sowed consternation within the Liberal party, which has faced scrutiny over multiple candidates’ comments about or apparent links to the Chinese government.



In this federal election, it’s important for Canadians to remember that geography is destiny. Like it or not, Canada is tethered to the United States, and the next prime minister will have to sit down and cut a deal with the protectionist and erratic U.S. President Donald Trump.







It is sometimes hard to figure out just what it takes for people to realize a crisis is growing in strength. Like the frog who sits in the pot while the water slowly rises in temperature only to take note after it is too late, we appear to be sleepwalking into a major undermining of our democracy.
