Indian Nationals Driving Surge of Illegal Northern US Border Crossings, Many Using ‘Improperly’ Obtained Canadian Visas

The largest group of foreign nationals crossing the border illegally from Canada to the United States are from India, with a distant second being Chinese nationals. Federal authorities say that, in many cases, the foreign nationals have used “improperly” obtained visas to enter Canada before attempting to cross into the United States illegally.

Immigration Canada says it has taken measures to stem the abuse, which it says resulted in a marked drop of Canadian visa holders being intercepted south of the border.

With Trudeau on the ropes, NDP’s curious timing for toppling government questioned

OTTAWA — Statements made earlier this week by an NDP MP added jet fuel to rumours that the New Democrats are running out the clock until their party leader becomes pension-eligible.

Speaking on CTV Power Play on Monday, New Westminster—Burnaby MP Peter Julian offered up a curious timeline for when the NDP would join opposition parties in toppling the government in a confidence vote.

Justin Trudeau Should Resign – Under his leadership, Canada’s Liberal Party has devolved to something like a cult of personality.

The problem with criticizing Justin Trudeau is not where to begin but where to end. Trudeau’s proclivity for gaffes and vulgarity was established long before he became prime minister. And this fluffy, insubstantial side even seemed like it might have an upside as he formed a government: as long as Trudeau focused on annoying stunts and virtue-signaling, he would have little time for screwing up the country. Sadly, however, his government’s long procession of scandals and missteps has proven that theory wrong.

Justin Trudeau is the political issue, despite all the others

The polls tell us the top political issues in Canada are jobs and inflation. But the burning issue for many Canadians is Justin Trudeau.

After Monday’s political bombshell, the new Finance Minister and still Public Safety Minister, Dominic LeBlanc, gamely soldiered on Tuesday by announcing a border-security plan with cabinet colleagues.

But just about everyone around them in Ottawa was thinking about Mr. Trudeau. Will he resign? Will his own party force him out? Will he hang on?

I bet he will, he is just too vain, too small and mean of character to resign.

Jamie Sarkonak: Chrystia Freeland is no martyr for women

For once, Chrystia Freeland did the right thing. She had been told by her boss Friday that she would be taken out to a foreign-affairs-related pasture after releasing one last fall economic statement. On Monday, she quit before the press lockup could even begin, making public her concerns about the government while sending the government scrambling for a plan B.

‘Freeland’s resignation letter didn’t mention gender, but Trudeau accused of phoney feminism anyway’ … That’s because it’s true CBC

The day he took office for his “sunny” first term, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appeared in front of Ottawa’s Rideau Hall to present the first gender-balanced cabinet in Canadian history. He gave his succinct “because it’s 2015” explanation — a remark that became integral to his then-favourable political brand.

Standing in the front row, just behind his right shoulder, was freshly minted Trade Minister Chrystia Freeland.

John Robson: Stop congratulating Freeland for being fired

The big news in Ottawa is that Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland has resigned on principle and Justin Trudeau is now definitely doomed unless he’s not. Wow. But did she jump, or was she pushed?

Pushed. So the first really weird thing about this story is that plethora of news stories, including three separate pieces on the front page of a certain newspaper Monday, all using “resignation” or “quit,” (the fourth waited until page two). But we actually know she was fired.

What Might a Post-Trudeau Liberal Party Look Like?

Justin Trudeau took the Liberals from third-party status to a majority government in 2015 with his personal brand. Nine years later, his popularity and that of his party has faded, the latest blows being the resignation of senior cabinet ministers and calls from caucus members for Trudeau’s resignation.

Rebuilding the party from the bottom up, doing a broad review of core policies, and repositioning the party are some of the suggestions made by disenchanted insiders. They do not see the current approach, which has resulted in the Conservatives forging an over 20-point lead in the polls, as boding well for the future.

How Trump divided Trudeau and Freeland

OTTAWA — President-elect Donald Trump’s tariff wars have claimed their first casualty: Canada’s Chrystia Freeland.

“The Great State of Canada is stunned as the Finance Minister resigns, or was fired, from her position by Governor Justin Trudeau,” Trump shared on Truth Social late Monday night. “Her behavior was totally toxic and not at all conducive to making deals which are good for the very unhappy citizens of Canada. She will not be missed!!!!”

Why Trudeau must go — and now says Blackie’s Star

It will be a surprise if Prime Minister Justin Trudeau doesn’t soon resign, something he should have done months ago.

Trudeau long ago lost the confidence of Canadians, and now lacks the support of top cabinet officers who have quit, as well as much of his own caucus.

There are several able potential successors to Trudeau in a Liberal leadership campaign that can’t begin soon enough.

This is from Blackie’s Star!

Some Liberal MPs repeat calls for Trudeau to quit after Freeland debacle — but he still has defenders

Some Liberal MPs said Tuesday Prime Minister Justin Trudeau can’t carry on as party leader after the humiliation of Chrystia Freeland’s public resignation from cabinet and another bruising byelection loss in B.C.

The calls for Trudeau to resign are coming from some of the same people who have said he should go in the past.

But some MPs who previously were on the fence — or even defended the prime minister in the past — are now coming forward to say it’s time to turn the page on the Trudeau era.

It’s time for the cowardly lions in the Liberal caucus to stand up and be heard

Another by-election, another massive defeat for the governing Liberals. On Monday night, it was citizens in Cloverdale—Langley City, in Metro Vancouver, who delivered the blow. Two-thirds of voters opted for the Conservative, former MP Tamara Jansen, just 16 per cent voted Liberal Madison Fleischer, a 2021 university graduate who spent much of her campaign avoiding questions about her shaky claims to Metis heritage.
