OTTAWA (LifeSiteNews) –– Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) leader Pierre Poilievre said directly that Canada’s intelligence community is in an “open revolt” against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in light of ongoing revelations by a whistleblower from the intelligence community that the Communist Chinese regime is meddling in Canada’s elections.

“First of all, it is clear that Justin Trudeau has lost the confidence of our intelligence community. And there is an open revolt against the prime minister,” noted Poilievre while speaking to media last week.

Informed Canadians will have little trouble remembering how fixated Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was with the foreign money donated through crowdfunding sources to the Freedom Convoy.

But for those who don’t recall, here’s a brief refresher. The PM was so obsessed about donations from Americans helping to fund the truckers’ protest on Parliament Hill last winter that he actually brought it up with U.S. President Joe Biden last February. It remains unclear what he expected the president to do. Freeze his citizen’s bank accounts, perhaps?

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau retreated on Tuesday so that his chief of staff, Katie Telford, will now testify before a parliamentary committee. But it turns out retreat is a good plan for his Liberals.

Despite the chatter, Mr. Trudeau was never going to trigger an election simply to stop Ms. Telford from testifying. That would be a nutty political calculation.

I have (or had) tremendous respect for former Governor General David Johnston. But no one — absolutely no one — who has been affiliated with the Trudeau Foundation should have been asked to conduct an investigation into whether it is necessary to have an investigation on Chinese interference in our elections.

The extra drama attached to whether or not the NDP would endorse a motion forcing Justin Trudeau’s chief of staff Katie Telford to testify at committee was entirely beside the point. The aim of a days-long Liberal filibuster, which ended Tuesday when Telford agreed to appear, was never to prevent her from testifying about foreign election interference indefinitely. Rather, it was, it seems quite clear, just another tactic to delay and frustrate the process.

Liberal MP Han Dong said Tuesday he has reached out to Canada’s security intelligence agency for more information on allegations he was part of a Chinese foreign interference network during the 2019 federal election.

But he also said he has not made a similar request to the prime minister’s office — despite Global News reporting that senior aides to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau were briefed by national security officials about the allegations against Dong three weeks before voters headed to the polls.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has released foreign interference special rapporteur David Johnston’s mandate, which instructs the former governor general to determine by May 23 whether a public inquiry is necessary.

However, Johnston will have months more to dig into the broader issue of shoring up Canada’s democracy.

“Mr. Johnston is to recommend any additional mechanisms or transparent processes, such as a formal public inquiry, he deems necessary to reinforce Canadians’ confidence in the integrity of our democratic institutions by May 23, 2023,” said the Prime Minister’s Office in a statement outlining the details of this new job.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s chief of staff has agreed to testify before one of the committees investigating the Chinese government’s interference in Canada’s elections.

“While there are serious constraints on what can be said in public about sensitive intelligence matters, in an effort to make Parliament work [Katie] Telford has agreed to appear at the procedure and House affairs committee as part of their study,” said a Tuesday statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

While Canada and Australia have received similar intelligence that China is interfering in all levels of government, a new study says Canberra took actions to push back while Canadian political leaders “did not act” and allowed Chinese interference to flourish.

“In Ottawa, intelligence agencies reportedly found in 2017 that the CCP was interfering at ‘all levels of government’. In contrast with Australia, however, Canada’s political leaders did not act, and the problem of CCP interference continued to grow,” says a report compiled by China analysts John Garnaut, Matthew Johnson, Prudence Luttrell, and an anonymised researcher.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the vote later today on the Conservative motion calling for a new study into foreign interference will not be a confidence vote.

“It’s not going to be a confidence motion. Obviously it goes to how important the issue of foreign interference is,” Trudeau said on his way into a cabinet meeting on Tuesday morning.

The Conservatives have put forward a motion in the House of Commons which would compel Katie Telford, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s chief of staff, to testify before a House of Commons committee on the Chinese government’s efforts to interfere in Canadian elections.

The motion, moved by Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, would order Telford to appear before the standing committee on access to information, privacy and ethics no later than April 14, 2023 and to answer questions for three hours.

It says everything about the Liberal Party’s collusion with Communist China that Ms. Telford must be “forced” to spill her guilty guts.
