‘Practically impossible’ to keep COVID-19 variants out, officials say, as flights from hotspots continue

“We know that, with viruses, it’s practically impossible to prevent new variants from arriving here in Canada,” said deputy chief public health officer Dr. Howard Njoo, speaking in French during a COVID-19 update on April 21.

LILLEY: Trudeau still won’t act on flights from India and other hotspots

As ICUs fill up, doctors confront grim choice of who gets life-saving care

Hospitals are shifting critically ill patients around, looking for any empty bed. Nurses and doctors are putting in exhaustion-defying amounts of overtime. Some provinces are opening new intensive care unit capacity.

But it may not be enough to stave off a point no one wants to reach in the pandemic — when only a handful of ICU beds remain but a greater number of patients need those spots.

Trudeau slams ‘disconnected’ Conservatives in sharply worded speech to party faithful

In a 20-minute virtual address to thousands of party members, Trudeau said Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole “can’t quite grasp” the struggles that Canadians have endured over the last year during COVID-19. He suggested the Tories would have been less generous with relief programs and unreliable pandemic stewards had they been in power.

FUREY: Public officials have failed to prepare Canadians for COVID-19

Many healthcare professionals agree that having an active and physical lifestyle, taking Vitamin D and other lifestyle choices can lessen the chance of a serious outcome if infected with COVID-19. In fact, the UK government sent its citizens free vitamin D supplements.

Meanwhile, public officials in Canada have never discussed these lifestyle choices. As a result, many Canadians are unaware and unprepared for COVID-19.

BAROOTES: Trudeau’s made-in-America obsession with guns does nothing to keep us safe

You know a federal election is in the air when a Liberal government starts to dream up a new suite of exotic and invasive gun laws.

In the past year alone, the Trudeau government has announced a federal buy-back program for a list of firearms they have now deemed to be illegal. They introduced new legislation that will allow municipalities to ban law-abiding Canadians from owning restricted firearms, which could also ban airsoft sports. And, most recently, they have introduced Bill C-22 to eliminate a number of mandatory minimum penalties for firearms offenses that keep communities safe.

For those keeping score at home, this means the Trudeau government is now treating people who obey the law like criminals, people who break the law like victims, and people who work for municipalities as if they work for the federal government instead.

Kelly McParland: Time to grow some backbone Canadians

One of Toronto’s local TV stations recently ran a segment on an elderly woman who was accidentally given the wrong address for her COVID jab. Her daughter drove her to the designated spot, which was deserted. Turned out the vaccinations were being done elsewhere.

Every time China has insulted or degraded Canada on the world stage

Over the last few years, the Chinese Communist regime has grown increasingly hostile towards the West.

With regard to Canada, the Chinese government has proven itself to be belligerent and uncooperative. The refusal by Chinese authorities to grant access to the trials of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor to consular officials is the most recent instance of Chinese diplomatic hostility.

Even prior to the arrest of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou in 2019, Chinese state-media and officials were lashing out at Canada.

The following is a list of every single time that Chinese officials and state-media have insulted or downright degraded Canada on the international stage.

Tam’s office admits rocket ship modelling takes ‘simplified approach’ to projections

The Public Health Agency of Canada has admitted the modelling they use to create COVID-19 charts is a simple one that leaves out some potential inputs, including the impact of vaccinations.

“The forecasting model uses a simplified approach to model effects of public health interventions, which it does by altering the transmission rate,” explains a document sent by the PHAC to the federal House of Commons health committee earlier this week.

Health Canada says AstraZeneca vaccine safe, effective but will add warning on clots

Health Canada is in the process of adding a warning about a rare possible side-effect of blood clots from the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine but is still certain the vaccine is safe and effective against COVID-19.

The department’s chief medical adviser Dr. Supriya Sharma says the warning comes on the heels of a similar warning in Europe last week but doesn’t change Health Canada’s analysis that the vaccine’s benefits outweigh its risks.
