George Orwell becomes the latest casualty of the woke takeover of schools

This summer, thousands of teenagers taking one of the UK’s most popular English A-level courses will have the opportunity to write about George Orwell’s groundbreaking exploration of poverty and homelessness.

Down and Out in Paris and London, published in 1933, is still lauded for its unflinching depictions of destitution. One contemporary described it as “a genuine human document, which at the same time is written with so much artistic force that, in spite of the squalor and degradation thus unfolded, the result is curiously beautiful with the beauty of an accomplished etching on copper”.

It is absurd to condemn Charles Dickens as racist

It is absurd to condemn Charles Dickens as racist

The Guildhall Museum in Rochester exists, in part, to present the work of one of the greatest writers in the English language, Charles Dickens, to the public. It will come as no surprise to discover that in 2026, this consists of denouncing him. Dickens had an “idea of racial superiority”, according to internal guidance produced by the museum. “Today we reject his views… Dickens’s views on race can have no place in our society,” it adds, pointing to “a vociferous intolerance which he expressed in grossly offensive terms”.

The Heresy of Sex Differences

The Heresy of Sex Differences

The controversy surrounding the nomination of E. J. Antoni to head the US Bureau of Labor Statistics briefly brought public attention to a topic that is usually confined to academic psychology. During discussions with interns at the Heritage Foundation, Antoni reportedly stated that men and women differ in intelligence distributions and that males are more likely to appear at the extremes, including very high IQ levels. The comments triggered criticism and media attention, and the nomination was eventually withdrawn. This was not the first time such ideas had cost someone a prestigious position. Larry Summers was similarly pushed out of Harvard after suggesting that inherent differences in ability between the sexes could account for why men tend to dominate at the top end of STEM performance.

A New Online Harms Act Would Mean Canadians Talk Less Freely

Once it was confirmed that, for the first time, Canada would be ruled by a majority government achieved through floor-crossing, it didn’t take long for talk of a renewed Online Harms Act to be proposed.

Heritage Minister Marc Miller was approached after his party—thanks to winning three byelections to hold seats it had previously won in last year’s election and gaining five floor-crossing MPs—had turned a minority government into a majority with unfettered legislative power.

Homeless charity cuts ties with Sharon Osbourne after she backs Tommy Robinson rally

Homeless charity cuts ties with Sharon Osbourne after she backs Tommy Robinson rally

The homelessness charity Centrepoint has said it will cut ties with its celebrity ambassador Sharon Osbourne after she expressed support for a far-right rally being organised by Tommy Robinson.

The charity, of which the Prince of Wales is patron, has been moved to distance itself from comments made by Osbourne. The TV personality indicated this week that she would be attending an event organised in London by Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon.

On an Instagram post about the “unite the kingdom” rally, Osbourne’s official account left a comment saying: “See you at the march.”

In response, Centrepoint, which had recently engaged Osbourne as an ambassador for a campaign, said: “This sort of event does not align with our values.”

Not sure I care much for a charity that places illegal alien invaders on an equal footing as native sons and daughters.

Young woman says Canadian university banned her for listening to a conversation about Iran war

A Canadian woman says she has been banned for life from the University of Guelph in a violation of her Charter rights because she overheard a private conversation that her father had about the Iran war with some Muslims.

Sarah Dotzert, a young conservative activist, posted a YouTube video about her ordeal through her organization, Unify Action. She explains just how far the university went in political correctness by banning both her and her father.

Self-censorship has become the safest form of expression

Self-censorship has become the safest form of expression

A few years ago, I was in New York with my 21-year-old daughter. We visited museums, ate at great restaurants, did some shopping. During our trip, she found a pair of sandals made of embroidered Chinese fabric and fell in love with them.

But that summer, I noticed she never wore them. When I asked why, she said: “I just feel like there’s a chance I’ll offend someone.”

Church magazine poet sacked after writing verses about migrants

Church magazine poet sacked after writing verses about migrants

A poet was dropped by a parish church magazine after she sparked anger for writing about migrants and overweight benefit claimants.

Diana Hunt, a regular contributor to the Uplyme Parish News, penned two poems on the state of modern Britain, taking aim at “benefits scroungers”, “boat loads of illegals” and fat people who say they cannot afford to eat.

But a number of residents in the small village of Uplyme, on the Devon-Dorset border, took objection to what they felt were her less than charitable tones.

Bob Gale resigns as chair of Niagara Region amid allegations over copy of Hitler’s book

Bob Gale has resigned as chair of the Regional Municipality of Niagara amid calls for an apology from local anti-racism groups that claim he owns a copy of Adolf Hitler’s book.

Gale submitted on Wednesday a letter to Rob Flock, the Ontario minister of municipal affairs and housing, stating that his resignation was effective immediately.

“Today, a member of the communist party circulated a dated document that listed my name as the owner of a historical book found in many libraries,” Gale wrote in his letter to Flack.

Earlier Wednesday, the Niagara Region Anti-Racism Association and the Justice 4 Black Lives Niagara issued a joint release alleging that Gale purchased and owned a copy of “Mein Kampf,” Hitler’s political manifesto, signed by the Nazi leader.

It’s an historic document. The latter day Nazi Karens would burn all of us at the stake on the flimsiest of pretexts.

Cancelling a man with Tourette’s is a new low for the woke elite

If you ever find yourself confused by the complexities of the ever-evolving hierarchy of oppression, the ‘compassionate’ left is happy to fill you in. Certain identity markers – particularly race and gender identity – place you comfortably in the upper layers of the victimhood trifle. But having a life-inhibiting neurological disorder? That, it seems, gives you little more than the soggy sponge at the bottom.

This would be funny if weren’t so infuriating.

Poilievre Labels $750K Fine for Former BC Trustee’s Gender Ideology Comments ‘Insane’

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is calling a recent ruling by a B.C. tribunal “insane and Orwellian” after a former school board trustee was ordered to pay $750,000 for speaking out against sexual orientation and gender identity curriculum.

The B.C. Human Rights Tribunal ordered former Chilliwack school trustee Barry Neufeld to pay $750,000 to the Chilliwack Teachers’ Association after ruling last week that he had violated the Human Rights Code by publishing content that it deemed “discriminatory” and exposed LGBT people “to hatred or contempt.”

Cory Morgan: Upcoming Court Case Could Put a Heavy Chill on the Practice of Cancel Culture

In March 2019, Caylan Ford was considered a star candidate for the United Conservative Party in Alberta as the NDP government under Rachel Notley called a general election. Despite her young age, Ford had a formidable resumé, including a master’s degree from Oxford University and a record of employment with the Canadian foreign ministry as an international affairs specialist. As a young, accomplished woman, she tempered the list of UCP candidates, which was predominantly conservative men.

Before the end of that month, however, Ford was abruptly forced to resign as a candidate and became a political pariah. She had been struck by cancel culture, and there was no recovering politically.

Ontario Teacher Silenced for Questioning Gender Transition in Books Settles Defamation Case With School Board

A former Ontario teacher says she has settled a defamation lawsuit against her previous school board after the board chair called her “transphobic” when she tried to raise concerns about the content of some books in school libraries.

The Ontario Court of Appeal had in November 2024 permitted Carolyn Burjoski’s defamation lawsuit against the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) and former school board chairman Scott Piatkowski to proceed, after the school board appealed an earlier court decision allowing the case to go ahead.
