China calls for UN investigation of Canada’s crimes against Indigenous people

On the same day Canada leads an international effort at the United Nations to demand that China allow free access to Xinjiang to investigate reported human rights violations, China and its allies have called on the UN to investigate crimes against Indigenous people in Canada.

“We are deeply concerned about the serious human rights violations against the Indigenous people in Canada. Historically, Canada robbed the Indigenous people of the land, killed them and eradicated their culture,” said Jiang Duan, a senior official at China’s mission to the UN in Geneva.

OTTAWA — The president of the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) was publicly admonished in the House of Commons on Monday for failing to turn over unredacted documents demanded by MPs related to the firing of two scientists at Canada’s highest security lab.

In an extraordinarily rare procedural move, PHAC president Iain Stewart was escorted to the bar in the House of Commons chamber where he was reprimanded by House of Commons Speaker Anthony Rota, which sparked off a series of tense exchanges between the government and opposition.

PHAC president Iain Stewart has been summoned to show up at the bar in the House of Commons chamber to be personally admonished by the speaker over failing to turnover unredacted documents explaining why scientists Xiangguo Qiu and her husband, Keding Cheng, were escorted out of Winnipeg’s National Microbiology Laboratory in July 2019 and then later fired by the body. Stewart has been ordered to produce the unredacted documents on Monday, but it remains to be seen whether he will.

Ottawa is wrestling with how to respond to a more assertive and repressive China as it reformulates the engagement policy that has been Canada’s approach for 50 years. It is doing so in an environment when the public discussion is becoming toxic.

Two facts stand out: Anti-China sentiment is rising across the country, and so is anti-Asian hate. How are the two connected?

At the G7 summit in Cornwall last weekend, US President Joe Biden warned his fellow-summiteers that unless something was done “China would eat our lunch.” Did Biden overegg the pudding with his colorful language or is the world ignoring the invisible chopsticks at work?

In a sense China, as the biggest trading partner of almost all the G7 members, is already eating part of their lunch while it is clear that without Western investment, technology and, of course, markets, China might have remained hungry and stuck between the madness of Maoism and the inertia of Ah-Quism.

Meanwhile, your other opponent with more chips sits quietly behind his cards while his paid spies behind your chair signal him the contents of your hand.

A national poll this spring showed a sharp divide between Democrats and Republicans over whether Russia or China is America’s greatest international adversary. Democrats, perhaps still seething from Russia’s clumsy efforts to sway the 2016 election to Donald Trump, see Vladimir Putin as a Bond movie villain and master manipulator. Republicans focused on commerce, cyber-security, and Asian ascension, look at emerging China as their greatest threat.

LinkedIn blocks profiles from view in China if sensitive topics mentioned

LinkedIn is blocking profiles from being viewed inside China if they mention politically sensitive topics such as the Tiananmen Square massacre, including benign references to academic study.

In recent weeks, the professional networking site has written to several China analysts, alerting them to “prohibited content” on their profile pages.

It told Swedish writer and photographer Jojje Olsson via email that a reference in his education section meant his profile, comments and posts would “not be made viewable in China”.

The World Health Organization (WHO) isn’t saying what the next phase of its investigation will be. American and other researchers outside of China are stuck in place largely because new information that could shed light on the origins — either natural or manmade — is being blocked by the Chinese Communists.

The head of the Public Health Agency of Canada is showing no sign he’s willing to release unredacted documents about the firing of two scientists at the country’s highest security laboratory — despite the prospect of being publicly shamed in the House of Commons for his refusal to produce the information.

PHAC president Iain Stewart told the Commons health committee Friday that he is bound by law to protect national security and privacy rights.

And he said nothing in a House order demanding that he produce the documents relieves him of that obligation.

Protecting the privacy rights of suspected Communist Chinese spies? I suspect he’s protecting the misdeeds of our China class.

Imagine if it turns out Canada made a significant contribution to the development of the China plague.

Has a top Chinese official defected to the US with Wuhan lab secrets?

A high-ranking Chinese spy chief is rumoured to have defected to the United States and given Washington evidence on the Wuhan lab which prompted Joe Biden’s about-face on the coronavirus leak theory.

Dong Jingwei is believed to have fled to the US with his daughter Dong Yang on February 10, according to Spy Talk.

He made a name in China’s secret service, known as Guoanbu, and was head of counter-intelligence, or spy-catching, after being promoted to the post of vice minister in April 2018.

As Jen noted, “Dong also has provided DIA with copies of the contents of the hard drive on Hunter Biden’s laptop, showing the information the Chinese government has about Hunter’s pornography problem and about his (and Joe’s) business dealings with Chinese entities.”

OTTAWA — Conservatives want to invoke a rarely used procedure to publicly rebuke the head of the Public Health Agency of Canada over his refusal to produce unredacted documents related to the firing of two scientists from Canada’s highest security laboratory.

Conservative House leader Gerard Deltell moved a motion Wednesday calling for PHAC to be found in contempt of Parliament and its president, Iain Stewart, to be summoned before the bar of the House to be admonished by the Speaker.

The CBC headline on the same matter is designed to obfuscate on behalf of the LPC – Conservatives look to use rarely-invoked tactic to rebuke head of Canada’s public health agency.
