The Two Michaels to Be Tried Soon

Canadian officials are not aware of any new timeline for the trials of two Canadians detained in China, despite reports in China claiming Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig will soon be tried.

In an article published in the Global Times, an English-language paper that effectively functions as a mouthpiece for the Chinese government, a source “close to the matter” is cited saying that the two Canadians have “already been prosecuted.”

“Another source close to the matter told the Global Times previously that due to the COVID-19 epidemic situation, the hearings for both cases have yet to commence, and the court will push forward the trial soon,” the article reads.

China launches COVID-19 vaccination certificates for cross-border travel

As vaccines are globally being rolled out, a few countries, including Bahrain, have already introduced certificates identifying vaccinated people and the European Union agreed to develop vaccine passports under pressure from tourism-dependent southern countries.

The certificate issued by China would have details about the holder’s COVID-19 vaccination information and coronavirus test results, the Department of Consular Affairs under China’s foreign ministry said on its website.

Chinese ambassador calls reports of Uyghur genocide, forced labour ‘lie of the century’

China‘s ambassador to Canada says reports of genocide and forced labour of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang province are the “lie of the century,” despite international bodies like the United Nations deeming the reports of such activities “numerous and credible.”

Cong Peiwu on Wednesday held a virtual press conference with political journalists from several Canadian outlets, including Global News. The event came a little over one week after the House of Commons voted to recognize China’s treatment of Uyghurs as a genocide.

How to stop China’s long march

The world is now wide awake to communist hostility — coordinated action must follow

Winston Churchill was rebuked as a warmonger when he tried to alert the United States to the immense danger of the Soviet Union with his “Iron Curtain” speech. In March 1946, the USSR was still America’s heroic ally; Stalin was the benign pipe-smoking Uncle Joe who had valiantly defeated the Germans, thereby sparing countless American boys an early death.

But this wilful ignorance was best captured in another call to arms that also celebrates its 75th anniversary this year: that of George F Kennan’s “Long Telegram” on the sources of Soviet conduct, which was received by the State Department in February 1946. Written by Kennan under the pseudonym ‘Mr X’, the Telegram was an attempt to bore through the layers of ignorance, foolish optimism and disinformation spread by local Communists and Soviet sympathisers. He hoped to mobilise his fellow foreign service officers in the State Department and their chiefs, and through them the press and then Congress, to “contain” the further spread of Stalin’s power across Europe. Kennan had to estrange the USSR in order to make his colleagues and the wider world see its threat.

An Italian associate professor, for example, Fabio Massimo Parenti, at the Lorenzo de Medici International Institute in Florence, was hosted in Xinjiang, where up to two million Uyghurs are estimated to be locked up in “re-education camps”. In addition, many British schools are now closely under Chinese radar of influence and propaganda. Nigel Farage, the leader of Britain’s Reform UK Party, recently tweeted that “Chinese billionaires with direct links to the CCP are buying up British schools — and flooding the curriculum with their propaganda,” and listed the names of some in the UK “under Chinese control”

China has humiliated the Vatican

Beijing shows no intention of honoring its deal with the Catholic Church

Last week, it emerged that the Chinese government has issued new rules for religious ministers in the country. Amid the regulations was a new official process for the appointment of Catholic bishops in the country, one which makes no reference to the Vatican or the deal the Catholic Church and China signed in 2018.

The rules are the latest in a series of pointed humiliations inflicted on the Vatican since it handed over control of the country’s Catholics to the Communist party two years ago.

Gordon Chang, author of “The Coming Collapse of China,” discussed the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) ambitions in biological warfare, human experimentation, and Biden’s position on China in an interview with The Epoch Times’ “Crossroads” program.

Various reports have revealed that the Chinese military has been collecting genetic data from foreigners which could allow it to target specific DNA strands based on race.

“[China] wants the DNA profiles of foreigners, because that gives them more information to be able to do what we just discussed, which are viruses that attack only certain ethnic or racial groups,” Chang said. “So the more data they collect, the more information they have to do this.”

Wall Street wants to finance the enemy, and the Biden administration is opening the door wide.

On January 26, the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control issued General License No. 1A, which permits Americans to continue acquiring shares in certain companies associated with “Communist Chinese Military Companies,” known as CCMCs, until May 27. The previous deadline, set by the Trump administration, was January 28.

The General License delayed a portion of the application of President Trump’s landmark Executive Order 13959, issued November 12, 2020.
