China’s security chief optimistic about winning ‘protracted war’ with US

Chinese officials are optimistic about winning a geopolitical competition with the United States due to the perceived “decline of the West,” according to the boasts of a top Chinese Communist security chief.

“The rise of the East and the decline of the West has become [a global] trend, and changes of the international landscape are in our favor,” Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission chief Chen Yixin told colleagues, per a South China Morning Post translation. “The U.S. suppression [of us] is a major threat, but [our struggle with the US] is both a skirmish and a protracted war.”

US Media: ‘Telling China’s Story Well’

One of the foremost tasks of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) under Xi Jinping is, at his directive, to “tell stories about China well and spread China’s voice well; enable the world to see a multidimensional and colorful China; present China as a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and an upholder of international order”.

When the coronavirus pandemic broke out in December 2019 in Wuhan and the Chinese authorities allowed it to spread to the rest of the world, “telling China’s story well” suddenly became an acute concern. It was necessary to save the regime’s face, deflect blame and seek to portray China as heroically battling the pandemic, instead of the reality of having caused it. China went into an even more energetic propaganda mode than usual, seeking to control the narrative about the virus at every turn.

Canadian action on Chinese forced labour more style than substance, critics say

Trade lawyers and human-rights advocates say the actions Canada announced to combat forced labour in China this week are more style than substance.

And one of Canada’s most prominent activists on the issue is calling on Ottawa to follow the United States in a full ban of cotton and tomato products from China’s Xinjiang region.

Earlier this week, the Canadian government announced a “comprehensive approach” to “defending the rights of Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities” in China’s Xinjiang province. The area in the northwest of the country has come under increasing international scrutiny for mass detentions, forced labour and alleged genocide carried out against people who are not part of China’s dominant Han ethnic group.

Huawei CFO Meng’s family granted federal travel exemption to visit Canada

OTTAWA — Immigration Canada has granted the husband and two children of detained Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou COVID-19 travel exemptions to visit her in Vancouver.

Meng’s lawyers stated in court Tuesday that her husband Liu Xiaozong and two children applied for the exemption to travel from China at the end of 2020. Liu arrived in October and was followed by the children in December. They remain in Canada.

A Chinese doctor has caused controversy after calling the country’s COVID-19 vaccine ‘the most unsafe in the world’.

Dr Tao Lina, a vaccine expert from Shanghai, pointed out to his 4.8million social media followers on Tuesday that the jab developed by Beijing’s state-run drugmaker Sinopharm had 73 side effects.

After his remarks were widely reported outside mainland China, the medical worker today denied having criticised the vaccine and denounced foreign media outlets for ‘twisting’ and ‘exploiting’ his words.

Public Safety Minister Details China’s Infiltration in Canada in Letter to MPs

Public Safety Minister Bill Blair revealed how China steals commercial secrets and technology from Canada and how the communist regime uses covert programs to silence overseas dissent.

In a letter to members of parliament, obtained by Global News, Blair said China is the most robust foreign interference actor in Canada, while Russia and several other countries are behind similar activities.

“Through investigations and monitoring, we continue to identify and shed light on the multiple ways foreign interference manifests itself in Canada, allowing us to be well-armed with the knowledge needed to deploy our tools to counter it,” Blair wrote in the letter.

While we bemoan the events of the past year, the 90-million strong Chinese Communist Party (CCP) can rightfully celebrate a good half-century. Since the Cold War, it has been a foreign policy goal of Mao Zedong and his successors to get America to lower its defenses and do the dirty work of empowering the People’s Republic. All we got in exchange were diplomatic smiles, successive presidential courtships, and the promise of liberalism from a country that refuses to savor a drop of it.

China still owes Canada $371 million in loans it incurred decades ago, and is not expected to repay them in full until 2045.

The little-known debt comes from loans to Beijing through the Canada Account, a federal fund providing credit for export-related transactions, usually to foreign governments and corporations to secure the purchase of Canadian goods, such as commercial planes.

The account is used to support transactions deemed too risky for Export Development Canada’s corporate account, but which are still in the national interest, as determined by the federal minister of International Trade.

This is so Canadian. Crony capitalists reap the profit of sales to the Communist Chinese slave state but it’s lowly tax payers who assume all the financial risk.

Communist China: Paying US Media to Publish Propaganda

‘Borrowing a Boat to Go Out on the Ocean’

The Chinese government-controlled English language newspaper, China Daily, in 2020 paid a variety of US media outlets nearly $2 million for publishing propaganda from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), according to a disclosure that China Daily filed in late November with the US Justice Department under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), according to Daily Caller.

China Daily has reportedly been registered as a foreign agent under FARA since 1983, which means it is required to report its activities and financial transactions to the Justice Department.

In June, China Daily filed a disclosure with the Justice Department showing that, since November 2016, it had paid $19 million to U.S. media outlets, including $12 million to newspapers such as the Washington Post and New York Times. Other newspapers included the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, Seattle Times, Houston Chronicle and Foreign Policy.

NYSE Begins to Delist Chinese Telecom Giants in Compliance With Trump’s Order

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) announced on Dec. 31 that it is in the process of delisting three Chinese telecom companies with ties to the Chinese military.

The three state-owned companies—China Mobile Ltd., China Telecom Corporation Ltd., and China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd.—will see their securities suspended from trading between Jan. 7 and Jan. 11, according to a statement. The delisting proceedings were made in compliance with President Donald Trump’s executive order (E.O.) 13959.
