Most Canadians support strong border measures amid new Omicron COVID-19 variant: poll

Since the announced detection of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, a new poll suggests Canadians are bracing for the worst.

More than four in five respondents to an online survey by Leger and the Association for Canadian Studies said they support closing the Canadian border to travellers coming from specific countries where the variant is already present.

In response to the detection of Omicron, Canada quickly put in place travel measures, including banning visitors who have recently travelled through 10 African countries, to curb the spread.

Omicron Brings Another Round of Pointless Travel Restrictions

We’re long past the point in the COVID-19 pandemic when politicians are doing much more in response to viral scares than engage in rituals to soothe a fearful public and enhance their own power. With the new omicron variant spreading across the world, travel restrictions seem to be the response of choice because they’re politically popular. Never mind that closing borders is ineffective at anything other than further burdening already hobbled families and economies. The actual danger posed by omicron remains uncertain, but the policy response is as pointless as it was preordained.

COVID-19 a Pandemic of Fear ‘Manufactured’ by Authorities: Yale Epidemiologist

The COVID-19 pandemic has been one of fear, manufactured by individuals who were in the nominal positions of authority as the virus began to spread across the globe last year, according to Yale epidemiologist Dr. Harvey Risch.

In an appearance on Epoch TV’s “American Thought Leaders” program, Risch, an epidemiology professor at the Yale School of Public Health and Yale School of Medicine’s Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, argued that by and large, what has characterized the entire CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus pandemic has been a “degree of fear and people’s response to the fear.”

The death of Europe – Mandatory vaccination spells the violent end of European liberalism.

Europe is on a precipice. It has marched, blindly, towards something very much resembling tyranny. Austria will shortly criminalise those who refuse the Covid vaccine. Germany looks set to follow. Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, is wondering out loud if every member state should do likewise and make offenders of those who reject this form of medication. In Italy you are deprived of your livelihood rather than your liberty if you say no to vaccination: the unvaxxed are not permitted to work. Anywhere. In Greece, everyone over the age of 60 must pay the government 100 euros for every month they remain unvaxxed. As if the Greek government, in cahoots with its masters in Brussels, had not immiserated Greek pensioners enough already.

Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday announced a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for all private businesses in New York City — one that will take effect days before he leaves office and with the city already recording among the highest vaccination rates and lowest infection rates in the nation.

De Blasio, whose mayoralty ends at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve, declared making vaccines compulsory for private businesses a “preemptive strike” against an expected surge in COVID infections this winter amid the emergence of the Omicron variant.

“We’re going to announce a first-in-the-nation measure,” de Blasio said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” Hizzoner added that the mandate is aimed at “maximizing vaccination quickly, so we can get ahead of Omicron and all the other challenges we’re facing right now.”

We’re in trouble if Omicron demands self-sacrifice of us again

Like scavengers desperate for even a morsel of sustenance, we’re latching onto every crumb of positive-sounding news about the Omicron variant. Israel’s Health Minister has said booster shots may protect against the variant; the South African doctor who first identified Omicron noted that symptoms in infected people appear to be mild; the World Health Organization has echoed that early data does not indicate this variant causes more severe illness.

Austria: Law amendment foresees up to one year in prison for vaccine critics

The fine for not complying to the vaccine mandate has been reduced to €2000 instead of €7200. That is quite a bit softer, but the new law has a new amendment against vaccination opponents, which the Express reports “is explosive in terms of democratic politics: in future, vaccination critics in Austria will be threatened with one year’s imprisonment.”
