As most adults recognize, human relationships can take on many forms. A similar principle can be applied to relations between government and its citizens. Some are healthy and productive, while others are steeped in toxicity.
In an authentic democracy, government are mandated to maximize benefits to the general public. Their purpose is one of management– to optimize well being in key categories– socially, economically, culturally. Stability is based on relative affinity between government and the people.
Authoritarian states are founded on different principles. The goal of government is one of social conformity. To control not only behaviour, but human thought, is an ideal within totalitarian societies.
The federal government announced on Tuesday June 14 that COVID-related travel restrictions in place since Oct. 30, 2021 will be ending. Specifically, the government is ending the requirement to show proof of vaccination for domestic travel on planes and trains, for outbound international travel, and ending the vaccine mandate for transport workers and federal government employees.
According to Blacklock’s Reporter, during Thursday’s House of Commons transport committee, NDP MP Taylor Bachrach sponsored a motion requesting “a copy of all relevant documents containing public health advice and scientific modeling received by the Minister of Transport” used to justify quarantines, masking, mandatory vaccination and other measures.
“All of a sudden there was a decision to suspend the mandates without really an explanation of what changed,” Bachrach explained.
Canada maintains the most restrictive rules for travel in the world. Except, perhaps, for China and North Korea. CBC and CTV have not a problem with it. Ditto for Globe & Mail, Toronto Star and Montreal Gazette. In post-modern Canada, whatever government dictate, media promote. Or at the very least, rationalize on their behalf.
Who is in charge of of locking Canadians inside our country? Ultimately, it is Justin Trudeau. Next to him is the person he appointed as overseer of national transportation, Liberal Cabinet member Omar Alghabra.

A healthcare law review submitted to the European Parliament in May took aim at the Canadian government for having some of the strictest Covid-19 restrictions in the world.
The report, Right to health, a comparative law perspective: Canada, published by the European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS) and authored by McGill University law professor Dr Derek Jones, was a survey of the country’s legal system as it pertains to healthcare rights. The EU has published similar reports about other countries.
“Many stringent and invasive public health measures for the Covid pandemic – curfews, capacity-restrictions in restaurants, the closure of bars and nightclubs for months, locking of office buildings, stoppage and restrictions on international travel – have severely curtailed or arrested commercial trade in vital sections of Canada’s economy,” the report said.
Canada has now joined the world’s most authoritarian states.

Australians have turned up in massive numbers for the seventh time to protest the abuse of power inherent within the country’s totalitarian response to COVID-19.
Pro-freedom protesters took to the streets on Saturday demonstrating against unconstitutional vaccine mandates, and the continuing of “vax or the axe” government overreach, as well as the extension of “emergency powers” Premiers (mostly Labor) have lavished on themselves, using the Communist Chinese virus as the pretence for a power grab.
Many Canadians acquiesced to soft totalitarianism when they accepted vaccine passports from September 2021 to early 2022 with little outcry or protest. A government with the power to exclude you from society over your refusal to get injected with a new substance which lacks long-term safety data can also make you a second-class citizen based on other private and personal decisions that the government deems to be unacceptable.
Skill-testing question: Does Canada’s federal government in 2022 require complete public subservience to the state? Correct answer: Not yet. Such is the nature of systems of government based on the authoritarian. The history of totalitarianism reveals that incremental implementation is most effective. Canada’s healthcare system didn’t have the capacity, the flexibility, the innovation or the robustness to handle a novel virus that disproportionately impacted the very old, the very weak and the very sick. Meanwhile, Canadians witnessed a colossal failure in leadership across the board – politics, government, media, business and even academia.
It is apparently much easier to tell the truth about state action the farther away it is from home. And hence even the New York Times seems alarmed at the covid lockdowns in Shanghai, and pretending as if nothing like that could happen here even though the whole practice of lockdown the world over was directly copied from the Wuhan model.
