Tory MPs should be wary of their first post-election meeting on Tuesday; to judge from an uncommonly self-serving email sent to supporters by Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole, they are being swarmed and hustled to confirm O’Toole as leader 15 days after he blew the election. Under Conservative MP Michael Chong’s Reform Act of 2014, when recognized parties where the chairperson of the caucus receives a request signed by at least 20 per cent of the party’s caucus asking for a leadership review, the caucus chair shall order that a secret ballot be taken promptly among all of that party’s MPs. If a majority vote to replace the leader, an interim leader is appointed until a formal leadership election is held.

Franco Terrazzano: O’Toole now has a serious credibility problem

In politics, nothing is more important than credibility. Politicians can deliver stirring speeches and launch searing attack ads, but if they don’t tell the truth, nobody believes any of it. And, one way or another, voters will hold them accountable.
I don’t agree. Despite flip flopping on major issues like the carbon tax O”Toole still did OK. I believe the election result will convince the CPC “braintrust” to maintain their leftward trajectory in hope of capturing eastern urban voters. Losing a chunk of the base will be considered just the cost of doing business.
Conservative member attacking O’Toole’s leadership could be dropped from party council, president warns

The president of the Conservative Party says party national council member Bert Chen’s sponsorship of a petition “attacking” leader Erin O’Toole puts him at risk of being dropped from the council.
“When you hold an office in the party, there’s an expectation that your conduct is such that it doesn’t detract or harm the interests or the reputation of … the national council on which you serve … the party and … the leader,” Rob Batherson, president of the Conservative Party of Canada, told CBC News.
Conservative vote likely not hurt — or particularly helped — by carbon pricing plan, new poll finds

OTTAWA — As the Conservative Party prepares to review its 2021 election loss, one of the biggest internal battles will be on environmental policy: Did Erin O’Toole’s inclusion of carbon pricing in the Conservative platform hurt the party’s performance?
I predict the CCP shift to the left is permanent. If not O’Toole the “braintrust” will install a “leader” equally suited to their ideological shift. They will continue to mouth “conservative positions” only to walk them back as needed.
Why O’Toole’s disastrous election strategy helped Trudeau win the Federal election

If the Conservative Party faithful wish to avoid an even greater vote-split with the PPC in the next election, which is what I believe will happen if Erin O’Toole remains leader, and avoid having the Liberals come up the middle to win again, then they all need to get onboard with dumping O’Toole.
MALCOLM: Here’s the real post-mortem Conservatives should be doing
Now that Erin O’Toole has lost, the media suddenly love him.
Starting on Monday, at roughly the time the polls closed and after anything they said could have an impact in the election, much of the media began pumping out stories in support of the failed CPC leader.
The Con braintrust IMHO views the election as “proof of concept” for the move left. If not O’Toole someone else will lead the freshly scrubbed CPC.
Conservatives divided on fate of O’Toole, as party’s MPs call for unity

OTTAWA — The Conservative Party is facing internal strife as some insiders want to see Erin O’Toole ousted as leader, while newly elected MPs hope for some semblance of unity.
After failing to dethrone the Liberals and pick up more seats this federal election, O’Toole must shift from fighting for Justin Trudeau’s job to fighting for his own.
However, Calgary Nose Hill MP Michelle Rempel Garner says she and her colleagues headed back to Ottawa are focused squarely on their role as opposition.
BONOKOSKI: Tories tend to eat their leaders before they can grow

It seems the Tories would rather chew up their leaders after one failure than give them the chance to grow into their skin.
Erin O’Toole is now being vetted more than he was when he was running for the leadership of the Conservatives, and he is now being accused of “betraying” the pack by becoming more centrist and giving short shrift to the core Conservatives whose right-wing ideals made him a little too uncomfortable.
I think they are better off keeping O’Toole. The shift to the left he initiated for the party is likely here to stay. That’s good news for the PPC.
Joe Oliver: Conservatives must persuade the electorate, not pander to the left

Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole’s strategy to broaden the Tory base did not achieve the breakthrough he sought, so it is time for a deep rethink.
Every progressive, and most of the mainstream commentariat, endlessly proclaim that the only road to victory for Conservatives is to embrace the values and policies of the centre-left. In their view, the Conservatives had no hope of winning unless O’Toole adopted all the revered shibboleths and politically correct strictures of the Liberal elite.
I suspect the CPC is happy with their current course left. You might hear a few actual conservative statements etc from them from time to time but rest assured they’ll recant the minute they can.
Now that Erin O’Toole has lost, the media suddenly love him

After five weeks of treating Conservatives unfairly, writing fake news stories, misrepresenting O’Toole’s positions, repeating Liberal talking points, pushing Trudeau’s wedge issues and generally vilifying conservatives, many in the legacy media have suddenly had a change of heart.
Canada’s Conservatives Need To Try Shifting The Country To The Right

With Erin O’Toole now under siege following his failure to even match the campaign performance of Andrew Scheer, the CPC is embroiled in a civil war.
Conservative Party locks down voter database as movement to oust O’Toole grows

According to a report by the Toronto Star, the Conservatives have locked out party members from the Constituent Information Management System (CIMS), a database that stores information on supporters and party members.
Sources told the outlet that O’Toole’s campaign team barred access to the database in what is being described as an attempt to save his leadership.
Media Brand Conservative Party Racist After Federal Election Loss
![]()
A CBC News analysis of post-federal election results informs readers of a terrible outcome: 95% of the MPs making up the new Conservative Party caucus are white.
The tone of the report delivers a disconcerting sub-text: this outcome is next-door to criminal. Conveniently, CBC neglect to point out that the Conservatives and NDP ran an equal number of racialized candidates. The crime being that the Conservative candidates didn’t win. Is it any surprise they were decimated by the Liberals?
Petition Seeks O’Toole Ouster For Having Made “Chinese Canadians” Feel Uncomfortable With Hardline Stance Against Red China’s Godless Communist Menace

Erin O’Toole accused of ‘betraying’ Conservatives as he faces first leadership challenge
“… Mr. Chen said he doesn’t trust Mr. O’Toole’s review, and that the Conservative Leader has not been contrite enough in his public comments about the election loss. Mr. Chen added that he was concerned that Mr. O’Toole’s hardline comments about China had made Chinese-Canadians feel uncomfortable.
Robert Batherson, president of the Conservative Party, said it’s important to let Mr. O’Toole’s review process take its course. He said Mr. Chen did not consult with the council before launching the petition. “We haven’t even finished counting all the ballots. So I think it’s important that we take the time to listen to MPs, listen to candidates, listen to campaign managers, grassroots,” Mr. Batherson said.”
Conservatives lock down member database as challenge to Erin O’Toole’s leadership grows
OTTAWA–The Conservative party has locked its MPs and candidates out of its central voter database in a move that critics say is an attempt by Erin O’Toole to protect his leadership.
Multiple sources told the Star that O’Toole’s team had denied them access on Wednesday morning to the party’s Constituent Information Management System (CIMS), its database of supporters and party members.
The move temporarily blocks their ability to get into the central reservoir of data that Conservatives depend on to identify, contact and rally voters.
O’Toole touts ‘innovative’ carbon pricing plan and pledges to work with provinces

Erin O’Toole appears open to letting provinces decide whether they want to be part of the Conservative carbon pricing plan or stick with the Liberal one.
The Tory leader has faced criticism from within his own tent for promising a Conservative carbon price on fuel after campaigning during his leadership race to scrap the plan introduced by the Liberals.
O’Toole has said that under his system, the money consumers spend on gas would be sent to personal savings accounts they could then use to make green purchases.
